PS3 Firmware Update - 2.60

| Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, has put up a post about the arrival of firmware v2.60 for PlayStation 3. A novel feature included is a new Photo Gallery application along with Guest Access to PlayStation Store and DivX 3.11 support. The new 140MB 2.60 update features the Photo Gallery application that needs to be installed from XMB under the Photo section. The Photo Gallery app has tools for organizing and displaying the digital photo collection. Slideshows with music and playlists can be created with the stored digital photos. This update will also add DivX 3.11 support for videos on PS3. Also, non-PSN users would now be able to access the PlayStation Store for checking out new games, videos, demos, etc. Visit the PS3 System Update page if you wish to download the update onto a PC. | Dude, the photo Gallery is brilliant :eek: Seriously it really is! I use the my PS3 alot for Music, and often enough for Video, but the Photo aspect was a bit lacking, with this now it just adds so much to it... I just started up the application and thought it was already pretty cool without modifying anything! I had pics of DMC next to pics of my last move and some wallpapers... It just did everything right so far (props to Sony for nailing this one!). My dad made a playlist with pics of him and my mum. What song do you think he took? | After toying around with the new app it becomes apparent that this was designed for use with Digital Photos, not artwork or game pictures. That kinda makes this app useless to me, since 90% of the pictures I have on my PS3 are HD digital artwork and the like. I had really hoped the app would provide you with an organiser or something because I hate not being able to sort pictures into my own custom categories... Only Time or Title. However the face recognition feature is dope... The ability to sort pictures by how many people are in it or the facial expressions is... Well, its naturally Useless but still really cool. I just cant really imagine someone going: "Oh, I got to show you this picture of Debbie, I just cant remember when I took it, or what I called the file... But oh!
