Time Limit

Archive: 9 posts

Hey guys,

Getting a bit stuck with the Time Limit function in the Gameplay Controls. Is there a way so the time doesn't start as soon as you spawn in the level? Preferably I'd like to trigger the time to countdown at a certain point if it's possible? I've been using Race Gates but I don't like the way they look so any help would be appreciated.

Don't think there is.

One way if you are simply wishing to limit gameplay would be to use a timer hooked to a game ender. You then could set the start by whatever means you want to start the game (i.e players arrival to the play field, player touching something etc)

Gutted.

Was wanting the time limit more for visual benefits rather than ending the level. I'll have to make my own clock and wire up timing logic to it I guess, something I was hoping not to need to do!

Well... another thought would be this. Keep your game timer as is and do the other stuff (instructions or whatever) in another level having the play area be a sub level and destroy the entry if needed.2013-02-05 14:46:00

A simple timer display should be easy to, if all you want it to do is count up. Just wire pulse timers to the bottom of selectors for each display digit. Then just use the relevent amount of time and selector options for each digit.

When you enter a sub level, can players still join you, even if I activated the "Don't let players join thing" in the main level?

(Sorry to hijack your thread btw, Mopkins)

Just found I have a digital timer saved that I made ages ago, problem solved! I think the 'don't let players join' gate follows through levels from what I can remember. If you're unsure though you can always trigger one as you start the sub-level using a player sensor or something and place it off screen if you don't want it to be visible. 2013-02-05 15:31:00

You wouldn't think so, but worth a test. If not, you could always stick another one hidden below the entry oriented sideways if you drop them in somewhere.

are you placing the race gates somewhere out of sight and using a player sensor to start and stop it and don't like the look of the time at the top right hand side?2013-02-05 16:17:00

Yeah, with the race gates you get a countdown which I don't really want. With the global controls you get a nice little digital timer that counts down and looks good, but alas unless I completely change the start of my level it's not feasable. The digital timer I've made seems to work well enough.
