Help With Dr. Tecnova, Boss battle

Archive: 3 posts

Hey guys, i need some help with Dr. Tecnova's Boss battle...

Here is the plan.

This level will be a vertical scrolling shooter a la Xevious. You will have to fly a plane, and take out ground and air targets while you fly upwards, at the end of which lies Dr. Tecnova's Airship of Doom.

The problem I'm having is getting a rig set up which will allow control of the plane to the left and right. the rig i have set up right now is the back fat layer, with 2 pistons sliding a block back and forth. the plane is attached to the block with rods, and is on the second fat layer, and the thin layer between should be the ground.

this should make it where you cannot see your sackboy, and instead see only a plane.

the issue with my rig is control. the pistons are switched by a 3-way switch, which is connected to 2 winches, a common setup. the winches are switched to 2 sensor switches, which are places on either side of a box in which the player stands.

so the theory goes: player moves to the right in the box, and the plane will move right, the player moves left, and the plane moves left.

however, the movement is jerky at best, and will sometimes break the rig.

so here are some problems i would like help solving:

1)How to control the plane, and still be able to shoot while moving.

2)how to be able to make multiple lives, or perhaps armor shielding which degrades after so many hits.

I'm sure other problems will arise, but these are the ones stumping me right now... please help!

if someone wants to see my rig right now, i can post the level so you can look at it and maybe improve it?

I have just the thing:

You know Azure Palace, by Donkey Show? Well He has a mech level:

The way he does it, is you are actually PULLING/PUSHING the mech by flight in a jetpack. This would work well here so that you can make a ring of sponge with a grab switch to shoot.

OR you could make it less strong by instead emiting a mag key, making it last slightly longer, and getting rid of the jerk motion.

OR you could set it up to a MAG key on a piston, with the switch set to speed, and then attatched to the piston you want. Now it shouldn't be jerky

--- Feel free to use whichever, personally, no.3 would be the hardest, by smoothest, while no.1 would be simple. No.2 is a possibility, but might not work well.
