TUTORIAL: Making a Teleporter
Archive: 10 posts
This would more likely go under tutorials, but I rather put this in the showcase. This level/tutorial includes: A sample of what the teleporter is like. A video/slideshow on how to work on a teleporting network. This is more effective than the controlinator teleporters and the checkpoint teleporters. NOTE: For anyone who plays this level, you have to pull the switch under the cabin at the beginning and press the big red button in the cove. http://lbp.me/v/hrz6bz | 2013-02-02 05:35:00 Author: Apple2012 Posts: 1408 |

I left my full review on your level, and in a nutshell, this level was both good and bad. The tutorial was good and informative, however the style of the level wasn't too good. Here is my full review: I have both PROs and CONs for this level. I will start with the PROs. 1. This tutorial is very informative, and the demonstration teleporters help. 2. Your style is interesting, needs some refinement, but still interesting. and 3. You provided a prize at the end for those who didn't understand. That, is crucial. Now for the CONs. Your building style is horrid. You obviously have talent, and yet you have neglected to make your level look crisp and clean. That is a mistake. If you do this, many people are going to leave before the tutorial even starts because they believe it will suck. Polish your style, then try re-doing this tut., see if you can improve it. Another thing is the fact that the level is bland and lacks character - Liven it up a bit! Overall, I'd give this level a 6-7/10 | 2013-02-02 19:24:00 Author: theIronHorse Posts: 279 |

http://littlesigplanet.com/sigs/level/hrz6bz/popit_moonqueen/0/sig.png (http://lbp.me/v/hrz6bz) @theironhorse: what style did I use that seems "bad"? | 2013-02-02 23:40:00 Author: Apple2012 Posts: 1408 |
It seemed to "mainstream", in that you used a style that I can see in a ton of levels, most of which are LBP1 or just very badly designed. I love seeing something unique, something that only a few people have, and I think that since you're obviously knowledgeable when it comes to creating, I think you can do better! | 2013-02-02 23:44:00 Author: theIronHorse Posts: 279 |
I just liked the winter theme. I know the golden days of LBP1 is over, but they still have a lot of materials/backgrounds people would still use. | 2013-02-02 23:49:00 Author: Apple2012 Posts: 1408 |
Nothing is wrong with the theme, it's just the way you are executing it. It feels thrown together like you just built it quick so that you could publish it. | 2013-02-03 00:17:00 Author: theIronHorse Posts: 279 |
I have similar pros as IronHorse. I found it informative, which of course is the main purpose of the tutorial. I also liked that you provided a premade sample to helpp out anyone who works on it. I was mixed on the slideshow style. I generally prefer a more interactive or player controlled experience. At the very least, it would have been nice to be able to control when the next slide would come up. To do one better, it would have been nice for the player to be able to pick any slide at will. In terms of your execution overall, I found it better than some, but not as good as it could have been. For good or ill, I tend to compare in-game tutorials to the old Logic Packs from LBP1. It would be great to see a tutorial that also makes a solid level in it's own way. This one didn't really pull it off, but it is certainly better than many others out there, in the information, look, and feel it brings. My one final suggestion would have been to close the level with your cutom teleporter. I know you have it showcased elsewhere in the level (which was also cool to have by the way), but it would have been nice to have it replace the regular wormhole that was used. | 2013-02-09 02:03:00 Author: xxMATEOSxx Posts: 1787 |
Slideshows will be my new style in creating. | 2013-02-10 04:37:00 Author: Apple2012 Posts: 1408 |
