Hmm...well you could always go for a dragon or a knight. What I do is go to Google images or Deviantart and search for a creature to match my theme, then center the fight around that image.2009-01-21 22:49:00

I'm not really so great on designing things like bosses and stuff I am more of a uniform kinda guy. I do all of my stuff using the grid that way everything works perfectly together. I even have the grid down to a science.
But as far as a suggestion I would say a dragon.
I am going to build a dragon and put it in my Set the Scene! contest entry and maybe after I am done with that you can pull a few ideas from it.

It should be simple, the trick is giving it a pattern.

Have your dragon breath fire, and you have to avoid it, for say, 5 seconds, then you climb up it and press a button, creating a suicide switch, and ejecting you from the area (floor giving way etc) And the dragon comes back to life, for another round.

To do this, the easiest way of creating a sequence would be one of the following: A spinning wheel going past switches OR emiting an object, with wheels, going down a track and then dissolving at the end, with keys/switches on the way.

As for making the enemies, some of the best I've seen are in OCK's levels, Out of Africa and The Legion.

The real difficulty with making a truly good boss fight, isnt so much coming up with the IDEA of it..... it's getting the thing to do what you want.

An intricate boss fight, with numerous attacks in an interesting pattern, and different ways of moving and whatever.... like you'd see in any ol 2D platformer.... that's not easy to do. Making the boss structure itself isnt hard, but making the controlling bit..... that's a different story.

Depending, of course, on what, and how much, you want the thing to do.

I'd be happy to help, if you want.... Im good at making gizmos and contraptions.... but I always personally think it's best for each creator (and player!) to learn for themselves, wether by looking it up, experimenting, or asking questions of others.

A big Black Knight on a horse sounds great. And make the front legs move, constantly. If you want, his attacks consist of rushing towards you (with gas glass in front of him) and striking down his lance (a simple wobble bolt would do).

A dragon, though, would be difficult if you want it big. If not that big, it's still cool, just polish it. Also use wobble bolts for it's knees. It's attacks would be likely a fire breath (open his mouth and emit flaming round objects) and a strikedown (it would fly up then after a couple seconds, drop down on you).

Hmmm... I might just make a level with these ideas,

again the dragon that i made would only need minor mods to do exactly what you're saying uzman check out my previously mentioned level to see it what i did is i made a big giant dragon and made it move in all sorts of ways (mostly with wobbles) the challenge is to climb up onto it's back and pop all of it's brains while avoiding the spikes and the fire below. its not very hard
