moving feet

Archive: 15 posts

Hi everyone! I'm currently working on a top-down level, and i am working on moving feet at this moment, like the feet of the robots in the robot boxing level. does anyone know how these feet were made? And i would like to know if there is a way to create a realistic flame, so not like these circles.
thanks already!

Pretty sure the feet were just there for show. Just have the controlinator activate a sequencer that moves your feet back and forth when the joystick is moved and also use the joystick to move your whole object too. If that makes sense.2013-01-31 19:01:00

And for the flame you'll probably want to use a a bunch of holograph material (or sticker material with selected stickers on it, set to dephysicalize) and have different 'sections' of the flame either randomly, or in a selected order light up, while other parts light down to make it look as if it is flickering.

Does that make sense or do you need more explanation?

hey guys,
i'm sorry for my late reaction, busy here with tests @ school...
anyway, i tried the sequencer, but when i stop walking, the sequencer will stop onto one of the movers, so one of my feet will keep moving forward. I've found another way though, something with a follower following a transmitter and a sensor activating the follower, i will try to add a pic later.
i still need to try out the flames, but i guess that will be all right...
thanks for your help!

Yes, that would be nice! I'm now working on the menu, so it would really help me... The idea is basically a fire which starts from one point, and spreads in a small area. After spreading it would be flickering like you said for about 10 seconds, and then it will extinguish... I guess something with a sequencer, and the destruction effect set to shrink. And of course, I will credit you.
PS: I'm sorry if my English is bad, I'm Dutch, and so is my lbpv.

Okay, you want to do, is get a piece of holographic material, or a piece of sticker panel. Corner edit it into the shape you want it to look like.
Make sure that your material is set to be invisible when it is receiving an off signal.
Now you're going to need a piece for each "animation" of the fire for each "frame" of it, the animation is what makes it look as f it is flickering.

So copy the material. Corner edit it a little bit to make it look slight different. Copy it again, corner edit it again.

You should now have three pieces, all that look similar, but slightly different.

Get a microchip out, place it down somewhere, now if you want it to go through the frames of animation randomly we can use a randomizer, set to only have one of it's outputs on, for .1 seconds, or if you want it to just play through each frame in a set order we can use a selector (you can probably use a sequencer too, but I having little experience with them to be honest, am going to describe the process using a selector).

I'm going to explain how to do it using a selector, if you would later like me to explain using a randomizer, I can.

Take your selector. Make sure it has 3 outputs. Take a .1 second timer, feed it's output into itself so it is constantly ticking off .1 over and over again. Plug it into the selectors input (the one that makes it cycle through outputs)

Take the three outputs, plug one into each of the pieces of holographic (or) sticker material.
Now as the selector goes through the outputs only ONE piece should ever be visible (you may need to hit the preview button to really see this effect) So when one piece is on, the other two pieces should be invisible.

Put all three pieces in the same place, since they're all just slightly different sizes, but only one pieces is ever on. It will appear as if one piece is flickering through the different shapes.

Does that make sense wolf brother?

(and of course you can use as many pieces of material as you want to make the animation look more 'smooth', I used three as a simple example though. )
(when you get this working we can discuss how to make the fire 'spread' )

Thanks! I'll try this out as soon as possible, and I'll tell you when i got it working. If I want to use a randomizer, i guess i just have to replace the selector by a randomizer, and let the rest the same?2013-02-13 16:26:00

Pretty much yeah. You need to make sure that only one of the randomizer's out puts are on, instead of the randomizer being set to the add setting, and you'll probably have to tweak the times the randomizer has set. But pretty much the same.2013-02-13 18:40:00

Ok, i got it working... I worked with holographic material, because i couldn't find realistic fire stickers. It is now flickering, and i can let it spread by using the create effect enlarge (or something like that ). Same with let it shrink... Thanks for your help!2013-02-19 14:30:00

Well, I guess I've got another problem here: I'm working on the level menu, the visuals are no problem, and I can make buttons, and make them touchable. I've made a menu with buttons which will show a description when you touch it using back touch (by showing and hiding notes). The text on the buttons is also made by notes. In create mode, everything is working fine, but when I switch to play mode the notes from the buttons hide themselves, and the back touch info doesn't show anymore. The exit button still works, it will still end the level. I'm using a movie camera which doesn't disable movement, so maybe that's the problem.
Could you please help me?
Thanks already!
p.s.: I'll try to add some pictures soon.

Well, part of the problem is solved. The notes respond again, I just had to change an option.
For now, I don't have any more questions.
Thanks for all your help!

(psttt, just wondering, what type of level are you working on, and when is it going to be published? )2013-03-28 17:32:00

The idea is a top down zombie shooter, with a story line. I guess it will take some time before I'll publish it, because I'm currently working on a level for the time-travelling contest. After that I will continue building the level. The map where it all starts is already finished (it's a small kind of avenue), so the next thing I will work on is the menu and the cutscenes, and enhance the zombies. I know that zombies aren't very original, but I have an idea for a nice storyline...2013-03-28 19:21:00
