which of the add ons provide the most new materials ...is it metal gears pack and if so do i really need own lbp and lbp2 in order to use that pack ?

No, you don't need to own LBP1 to get an LBP1 pack. LBP1 DLCs work perfectly fine just with LBP2. You can find the info on what's in DLC Packs on the LBPC Wiki. (http://wiki.lbpcentral.com/Category:Level_Packs) The MGS pack has 11 materials. An OK number but not the highest. The Muppets pack for instance has 13 and some of them are really cool and useful. The Cross Controller has the most, as far as I'm aware with 25 new materials, but of course, you need a Vita or a friend with a Vita in order to play through the pack.

I'd also consider picking up the Move DLC if you have a Move. If not, the Move can be picked up for a relatively good price now. Also, the Incredibles Kit has a bunch of cool deco and stickers in it. The Pirates of Caribbean Kit was really cool, added new levels and deco/materials. Monsters Pack is good. Toy Story has some good stuff too, Heck, get them all!
