La Dolce Vita is a movie covering a week in the life of a young sackboy in the big city, as he goes from party to party and sackgirl to sackgirl losing himself in the process. It's a remake of Federico Fellini's 1960 film of the same name. The original film was episodic by nature and this allowed me to include a few scenes from some of my other favorite films, such as Carnal Knowledge and L'avventura.

The movie is two hours long but don't let that scare you off, I've created a menu with a "Chapter selection" option so you can pick up where you left off, if you stop watching the film at any point; as well as a "Soundtrack" option so you can hear the amazing music that some of my LBP friends allowed me to include, as well as some fantastic community found music.

Yay! This is a piece of LBP art for sure.
Maybe it's not everybodys cup of tea, but its absolutely amazing!
Great movie with nice visuals, very good sackbot animations and well fitting voice acting.

Excellent level!

Thanks so much! I really didn't set out on pleasing everyone with this, it's definitely a dare on anyone's patience to sit through 2 hours of an LBP movie & this one in particular, but I'm very grateful to anyone who takes the time to watch it all the way through. Honestly though, despite it's low number of plays, it's gotten some very kind reviews, even the guy who left the worst review hearted it & overall the play to heart ratio is really decent, so no complaints from me on that end.

Don't know, I oughta time them individually at some point, they vary from 3 to 20 minutes I think, I definitely got better at stuffing levels to the hilt as I went on.

Sackboy goes Fellini! A fantastic mix up of the classic film, with so many nods to other films (especially loved the Repo Men speech!).
The amount of detail in this feature length presentation is mind-boggling: great actors & decor, well-chosen music, fluid camera movements.
This ***** dirty Ape deserves an Oscar (and a vacation.)

Fingers crossed for a Director's Cut version...

Fingers crossed for a Director's Cut version...Thanks a lot, I'm really glad you caught that Repo Man speech, I loved sticking in references to other movies, even if I'd be the only person to know the difference. When Maggie is driving the main character to the art gallery I stole some shots from Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, they'd always stuck out to me & I really wanted to include them even though it quickly overheated that level haha...

Well, I have to take my hat off to you for undertaking this project. It’s just so ambitious and yet you really have pulled it off. I have to say that I was a little daunted at the prospect of watching an LBP film for 2 hours and more than a little inclined to think you crazy for attempting an arthouse film on LBP using sackbots! I still do think you’re crazy but it totally worked and after the first scene I was just hooked.

The sets and the camera work are great and you make the sackbots very believable as characters, partly down to the great dialogue, I think, and partly the “acting”. I found myself alternately repelled by and sympathising with them, which I wouldn’t have believed possible with sackbots. The whole premise and the picture of society it paints were really fascinating- so strange and poignant, not to say “ominous”, lol! I will definitely try and catch the original film now and I’m sure I’ll have great fun spotting all your scenes as I watch, with a glass of milk to hand...

I have to say I loved the art gallery and night club (?) scenes early on and those in the castle later but it’s really hard to single out particular favourite moments.

Thank you for an unexpected pleasure! <3

I'm nearly finished watching through, just posting to thank you for this. Such a random film to translate to LBP, but I think that's why I like it so much. You haven't tried to make it funny other than the voice pitching, which made it more hilarious (that 1st scene in the car made me lol several times because its played so straight).

I've searched out a few clips on YouTube since watching, I'm gonna have to get this film. In an odd reversal, I'll be recognising scenes from LBP.

@shropshirelass:
Thanks for the fantastic comments, whenever someone watches it all the way through I always feel like I owe them a trophy or a prize, I wish I knew what to give you. But your support makes me feel like it was worth all the effort.

@julesyjules:
I'm so glad you enjoyed that first scene in the car, originally I wasn't planning on making a full movie, I only wanted to make two scenes, that one & the one near the end that takes place in their bedroom. The car scene is from La Dolce Vita, the bedroom scene is from Carnal Knowledge, but I always felt they had so much in common that they could've come from the same film. I enjoyed working on that first scene so much that I started creating more & more until I had 30 minutes, then an hour & finally 2 hours. I could've kept going too, the original film is 3 hours long!

I'd like to mention how much I loved the music I got to use for the movie, A_Morton & Hugh-es both selflessly donated music they'd been working on at separate points during the past year & I think their music adds so much to the episodes they play against. But my absolute favorite song is chucky789's remake of Nino Rota's "Finale" from the original film's soundtrack, it gave me goosebumps the first time I heard him play it for me, it was just so perfect. At this point I prefer chucky's version but, here's Nino Rota's version for comparison:

Sorry to bump this after such a long time but I just wanted to thank CogMonkey for posting the full movie up on youtube, which is actually an hour & 48 minutes long as it turns out, and here is the video itself:

You should be thanking Vanemiera, he asked me to record it (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=83173-CogMonkey-s-level-recording-service&p=1144333&viewfull=1#post1144333). Unfortunately it's blocked in some countries because of some of the music used. It's a real shame because it's a great movie level, I haven't seen the original film but I feel like I have after watching this on LBP. And then again to check the recording and edit out the loading times 2014-02-14 00:18:00

I definitely think the original film is worth a watch, the original is 3 hours long so I made a lot of changes, left out a lot of scenes/segments, including the whole Sylvia/Anita Ekberg segment which is one of the movie's more popular bits haha... So there's probably an hour and a half that would be new to you. But, of course, I'm clearly biased, what started out for me as an idea to recreate a short scene from a movie I kind of liked turned into an obsession, I've watched the original film probably well into the triple digits at this point, just from trying to recreate it so, I do have an unnatural love for it now.

Vanemiera is the best! I did notice that the movie won't play through the ps3 app or my iphone app, but I can play it through my phone's & ps3's web browser. Thanks again & again!

Oh man, I've got to set aside some time to see this, I feel like I might use the chapter selection, but I do like to watch things the whole way through, got it queued!2014-02-16 07:05:00
