Tips for making character portraits
Archive: 5 posts
So i've been wokring on my Visual Novel for the last couple days. Mostly got everything ready except for one thing, the character portraits/sprites/c. Does anyone have any tips on creating them? I want to create something like this with the character's current emotion http://25.media.tumblr.com/3077a6dfdc523be50c7ef8a4f6b3ad0c/tumblr_mhbhetdVut1qjxvwyo8_1280.jpg | 2013-01-28 05:55:00 Author: wait wtf Posts: 853 |
For the actual making of the image, you could try drawing out your character first on paper then taking a photo of it with your vita camera? Then if you don't wanna just cut round it, you could overlay sticker panel on top of the different coloured sections of the drawing, almost like tracing : ) For the set-up, I'd use tags and tag sensors. When you activate a note for the next text box, you should also activate a tag with a label. Say, a character says, "Im bored", the wire going into the note could also activate a tag with label "portrait-bored". Then a tag sensor on each portrait would pick this up and turn on. You could even hook up the tag sensor to a forwards/backwards timer (maybe 0.5s) and have the sticker panel portrait set to 'dimmer', then when they switch they'll fade in and out! Hope this helps a little, good luck with your level, sounds interesting! | 2013-01-28 12:27:00 Author: Hallm3 Posts: 252 |
I've actually tried drawing it out and then tracing it on the vita. It's somewhat harder than I thought. | 2013-01-28 14:23:00 Author: wait wtf Posts: 853 |
I can help you. Importing/remaking sprites and animations has always been my thing in LBP I would be happy to show you some of my approaches to getting the job done. Also if your really into this stuff you should consider joining our group. Im aiming to make it a one-stop deal for all this info. PM me if your interested and ill get you started | 2013-01-28 14:37:00 Author: Wolfdre Posts: 218 |
Nice idea about 'tracing' I recently made a heli pic for for level badge: made it out of all sorts of objects and materials on different layers in front view, took a pic and looked great, perhaps use That idea with the 'tracing over a pic' (though of course You need to be pretty creative to get It looking good | 2013-01-28 18:18:00 Author: Shade_seeker Posts: 328 |
