Twin-Terrain Forest

Archive: 8 posts

Hey guys!

So I got a new level for you. You wanna know why? I'll tell you why: it's because I care about you THIS much. Imagine me stretching my arms out as wide as possible.
Okay, let's get to the level.

So this one is called Twin-Terrain Forest. It's pretty much two different terrains in the level, each having a different type of tree. One holds the tall Eve's Asylum trees, whereas the other terrain is full of broccoli. Oh yeah, and this is an eliminator race track, just so you know.

Now I probably know what you're thinking: Eliminator? What?
Well, it's actually a custom game mode constructed by TheAdipose (or least I think), who is also the host of Karting Korner. I won't go into details for that, but I will explain Eliminator.

Basically you just race and destroy each other like you normally do. However, every 15 seconds the racer that is currently in last place is immediately eliminated from the race! Spooky, huh? Anyways, this cycle continues until only one racer remains, making him or her the winner.

Now if you're going to play this level, there's a couple things that you should know:
-There is limited fences in the level
-There are shortcuts in case you are really falling behind
-Using a shortcut always skip a weaponator
-Sometimes you are allowed back in the race after elimination. That is a bug, and it cannot be helped.
-A new weapon has been added to the level: the Voidstar Missile. This weapon targets all players ahead of you, but instead of stunning your enemies like the flash bang, it destroys them. It can also be used 3 times, oh my!
-I took the time to add an easter egg into the level. If you are able to spot it, I'd be most impressed if you told me which game it came from!

I also took a sample picture to intrigue you:

Alright, that's about it. If you ever get to playing this level, I'd respectfully say play safe. But what would be the fun in that?

Alright, take care.

Free love, chronos453. ^^

UPDATE 01/27/13: Sorry, lbpk.me link here: https://karting.lbp.me/v/81ej Okay, all good? Ya'll good.

UPDATE 01/28/13: After I had a friend play this level, it has concerned me when he said the timer was blocking one of the POVs during splitscreen mode. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you do NOT play in splitscreen mode when playing this level. That, and I'm also just too lazy to resolve the problem right away. Okay, thanks in advance.

Played through this last night and it was a hoot! The eliminator mechanic, coupled with the dark and gloomy setting really kept the tension high throughout the race, while the multiple paths and all the boosters always made it feel like i had a chance at winning (i did place first, but it was a real near thing).

Great job!

First up thanks for using the elimination logic - glad you had as much fun with it as I did.
Secondly the track is cool - well done - but I felt it was a little dark - HOWEVER I think my TV is a little on dark side, but I would have appreciated more lights - especially in some of the higher bridge sections. Multiple paths were good and a little signposting would be nice too - I know you're going for a darkened woods thing, but signposting does help players get around at speed.

You are most welcome. Seriously, I love this custom mode.

More lights, definitely. I would add them if I could figure out how the light I'm using would fit with the environment. Perhaps fireflies as pointers? :o Oh, speaking of higher bridge sections, have you spotted the little secret I put? You should see it during the spiral bridge and it's quite a distance. That's all I could tell you (-cough- look right).

Aw c'mon, so the neon arrow signs weren't enough? Meh, s'alright. I was planning on using the HUD pointers like the one in that Mario Kart level you reviewed on Karting Korner, but alas I have little experience with the HUD Tweaker. I wanted to put sticky note instructions like the ones in Story Mode too.

Try adding more lights first. Then maybe the arrows aren't needed. The times I got a little confused was when the road split. I always had a slight confusion as to wether the road split or it was just a gap in the trees.2013-01-30 06:47:00
