When did cell phones become so high-tech?

Archive: 24 posts

I was chatting with a handful of people yesterday, when I noticed that one of them was constantly touching the screen of his phone. Then there was this... strange banter about social networking and all that kind of modern teen-slang, when I was asked to take out my phone.

I found out my cell has a clock. Seriously, how awesome is that?!

The little buggers have gotten quite amazing lately huh? Many years ago, I thought I was stylin because I had one of those curly car phone antennas on my car. The phone didn't do anything except be a phone!! Oh noes!! lol2013-01-25 13:06:00

Pretty cool isn't it? My phone is able to send these little messages in text form, and my friends can respond with another "text message" (not sure what the correct terminology is). You use the number pad to type the letters. For example, if you press 4433555..555666, it types the word "hello".

We live in exciting times.

ROFL!!

I believe texting was the cell phone providers evil plot to have us all type on itty bitty keypads (now itty bitty keyboards) in order to charge us more money to type "Hey!" rather than us simply calling that person and saying "Hey!"

SCAM!!!

Well, while all my friends have their fancy high-tech talky/handheld computer 5G devices, I have my handy-dandy low-budget piece of shnart that sucks.

Honestly, I don't really need to fling spherical birds at overweight pigs while on hold with AT&T's help line, I can do that at home. I kind of just need to talk to people far away. That's it. Pressing a button to call was fine, but not now, what's hip is saying the name and getting a 3D freakin hologram projection of the guy on the JOHN. If you don't have the infinite minutes package, you can always hands-free text them by telling your phone what to [misspell] type like a little mechanical scribe on minimum wage who gets to sit in your ash tray while you run a red light.

And I hear there's a new transforming one that's coming out along with the IPhone 57G that hasn't changed at all except it can fly and you can ride it to Taiwan like you can on a Pidgey in PM Red.

And even then.
EVEN THEN.
I'll be stuck with a flip-phone or something.
I'm jelly.

They used to look more like this here, but you don't find them anymore.

I'm actually surprised that they haven't made a lightsaber app yet.

I mean, there's an app for everything else... I mean, you can even use it as a TV remote

A car phone? Who seriously needs that, and isn't that illegal when driving anyway?

Yeah, the good old Orelh?o. It's a shame that statistically always half of them are out of order in any given time.

You can have hands free car phones, plus I don't believe it is illegal to use a mobile whilst driving in the States.

The sundial attachment on my telegraph is perhaps one of the most innovative pieces of technology I own and it never serves me wrong, except for at night and when I'm facing the wrong direction.2013-01-27 12:22:00

Well my mom has this Nokia... like one of the old ones from around 2000 (i dont know) and YES, it's one of those things you can drop on the ground. My dad is a bit more... uhh, advanced, he has a tablet + this keyboard you can put it in, so that you can type, a Blackberry for work, and a HTC smartphone that broke since he tried to update it (well, broke? It randomly shuts down, but you can use it without problems though).2013-01-29 11:45:00

Was it always illegal or was it made illegal after it was found to increase accidents?

Well.. if you run out of gas it sure comes in handy. Also handy if you are traveling due to work so you can get updates or messages like "No, they need you over here" saving a 200 mile trip for nothing.

Keep in mind this was way before current portable cell phones. ...and no, not illegal here in the states, though they are pushing for you to finally use headsets which I do now. I rarely like to talk while driving unless I am on a highway with plenty of space between others. I call it my "sweet spot".

I am hoping they push for headsets as they really are not expensive. Cannot stand seeing folks with one hand on a phone attempting to drive, especially making turns and such in traffic. Really irks me!!

Not always illegal and I still don't think it is. Though as mentioned above, I think some states and areas are pushing for folks to use headsets. Maybe some have and hopefully someone can chime in with that info. If I wasn't lazy, I would look it up. lol

Yes! In fact specially designed for those occasions when you might be tied up, with cement on your feet and tossed overboard.
