Description for all reps.

Archive: 34 posts

I think if you are giving somone a positive or Negative rep a description SHOULD be required for both. Its just the matter of letting the person know what did they post that was so nice!

I always try to put a description in mine. but somtimes i forget but i probaly do on 70% of them

anyone agree?

Yes, It's annoying as hell if someone repped you (neg or pos) without knowing WHY.

I agree that people should comment on the rep they send x_x

and it may be off topic, but whats with the neutral rep? I saw my friend rep me at school, and when I checked it, it wasn't green, it was a gray colour and it didn't add to my rep.

I've gotten a couple neutral ones even though the options for rep are approve and disapprove

That is based on "rep power"

The more rep you have, the greater your "rep" power becomes. So, if you have a lot of rep, then when you rep someone, they get lots of points- gray rep is by people who don't have much rep, i.e. new users.

Thus, someone who has 100 rep, when they rep someone, gives people more rep with their "rep power", if that makes sense.

Well, I always try and comment when I rep. I've never given negative rep, but like Dorien I have been tempted sometimes. I do have 2 grey rep stars, but I think those are from new users.

I ususally end with a at the end of my comment. It's half anonymous, but it's a little bit unique.

A good way to get reputation points, by the way, is to go out and make quality posts! I love the way this site has positive reinforcement and rewards for people that do well.

So go out there and read posts. If you find a good one, don't be afraid to give them some positive reputation!

If for some reason you have forgotten where the reputation stuff is, it's at the bottom left of the information things for each post. It looks like a scale thing, and then you click whether you approve or not and can leave a comment.

And if you want to check your reputation, go to the User CP bit, which is the second grey bar up the top of each page.

And yes, Dorian, it's not a short post.

Sorry Sonic if you see this..... looks like you did +REP me after all lol

Cheers for the nice green one a week later to even it up even though it turns out it wasn't -REP after all

Even if this were possible, I still wouldn't want to do it. It would discourage some from using the rep system, and I just want it to be as accessible as possible.2009-01-21 02:31:00

I really disagree with this idea, I'd use reputation a LOT less and I'm sure a lot of other people would too. I seriously think that if people don't know why people repped them for a post, they obviously have a useless post.2009-01-21 18:11:00

i partly agree. If a post is good people should know why but still sometimes they might want to know what the person thought. I think it should be optional but people should be advised to comment or something

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but the rep. button almost looks like a snowflake... at least that's what i always thought :/

Maybe there should be a more clear button. Just a suggestion though.

(maybe you can and I've just not noticed?)

If you have elite status or higher, which normally costs 2,500XP, you are able to see the names of the users who have repped you.

Distinguished users, Moderators and Administration are also able to automatically see who has given them rep. Those positions cannot be bought, however, but are earnt.

The people who give rep are free to leave their name in the comment section when they do so, or they can choose to remain anonymous instead, at least from people under elite status.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, it took me a while to notice it as well. It could do to be a bit more prominent, but I guess it keeps it from being too intrusive.

I know it may be considered a benefit of Elite... but why not let everyone see who repped them then?2009-01-22 00:59:00

Some may not want to be confronted for negative rep, especially if they were particularly powerful rep-wise.
