It's Steven Appreciation Day!

Archive: 33 posts

Well, whaddya know... It's StevenI's birthday! Happy Birthday Steven!

To celebrate, we're kicking off the first annual Steven Appreciation Day which, despite spelling "S.A.D.", actually makes us all very happy indeed.

Steven has been a big part of the LittleBigPlanet community from the very start, and he did such a great job he ended up getting himself hired as the Community Manager. As Spaff moved on to bigger and brighter things, Steven picked up the torch, ran with it, and never looked back. Steven has brought us 5.7 billion* Mm picks over the course of the last year, loads of Sack Caps and prize crowns, special pins, Sack It To Me blog posts, Twitter wisdom, DLC announcements, and even a few podcasts... and he's not slowing down anytime soon.

Join me in extending a big THANK YOU to Steven for his tireless efforts around the community. Feel free to also share stories or Photoshopped pictures, and don't forget to wish him a happy birthday.

Thanks Steven, you're awesome!

"When I first met Steven I had heard great things about him. He had to me not only become *a* great example of how to be in the community, spreading joy, knowledge and an incredible mount of dedication, but he's to me *the* fantastic example of doing so. Even though I might not have been the one noticing him from the start or the one congratulating him the most when he was announced to be the Community Manager, he has sure grown in my eyes being the one bumping up the Team Picks to it's current weekly status, and having a weekly Sack it to Me announcing the latest news.

Steven has been around way before myself and has always been as helpful when someone needs him. He is so patient! Imagine yourself replying to all the messages of people wondering how to install the latest game pack, notifications about things they find interesting, and a million crown begging messages. You can't just put anyone in a position like that. You do need incredible patience for such a task. I don't think Steven gets enough recognition for what he does. He is all over the place, looking up what everybody's up to and trying his best to help.

Ever since I got in contact with him and got to know him, that person has grown into something more. When I got to know him he just seemed to be such an interesting person who had so many things to say, which he is and does have. I got to know he doesn't only enjoy LittleBigPlanet, but also Skyrim and Pokemon. He's one of the people who loves having that little ace symbol on a LittleBigPlanet level's badge. He wants all trophies in all games he tries out, so hearing him talking about the games may sometimes be confusing, but also a whole lot of fun. It's great to hear about his experiences in the games and how he see other people tries to attempt the attempt doing something like it.

I'm almost certain that Steven is some sort of superhero. I can't believe no one has figured out making a Steven Appreciation Day earlier. He helps so many every day and spreads joy. He is more than worthy of a day like this. Perhaps the I in his name actually stands for "Incredible"?

Happy Steven Appreciation Day!"

"well where to start...

i remember when wee little Steveni first became the community manager, and i had never heard of him or who he was, but he was quick to reach out and talk to the key players at all the forums. i think i chatted with him that first day on IM for a couple hours, or at least it seemed like it... oh wait... is that a good thing or a bad thing... either way, it was really nice to have a great conversation to get to know each other so it would be a nicer transition from the Spafford days of community management, or as we say( and by "we", i mean me) the days of old, before the times of the "micro chips" and "sequencers", i am talking way back, when you needed an and/or gate, you built one from scratch with material, pistons and tags, and you did it while walking up hill in the snow both ways in a blizzard!... oh wait, having a flashback here... dementia is setting in... must be getting too old for this stuff...

oh yeah, speaking of getting old... we are here for Steven... or "Steveni" as he is known to all the little misguided sackheads begging for crowns ok, back to Steven, nice guy, has handled everything that has come his way in a calm manner, and that is pretty impressive considering... i think he has done a great job staying in touch with the community and trying to keep the community active and trying new things. looking forward to working with him for another year (you can send that 3rd crown straight to Seattle, or do i need to say more?...)... oh, ok, i guess i can come up with something....

um.... he has a nice smile, great teeth, wonderful hair and... wait... i have never seen him before in person... uhmmm... speaking of that, isn't it a community managers job to go to all the trade shows, so doesn't Mm have to send Steven to PAX Prime? i really think they do, i mean they sent Tom and Spaff and it's the job of the community manager to get out there and meet the community, plus if i give you a high five, you could then give my high five to spaff, and then spaff can give that high five to Alex so i can finally get that dang "high fiving royalty" pin ... hmm... something to think about ...(hmm think that distracted him from the fact i couldn't come up with more good things to say?... dang it! i just typed that didn't i?) ok... seriously...

Steven, glad i got to know you , i know if i have a question, i can always ask and you will have some sort of answer, wether it's something i want to hear or not, you always explain things in a patient manner, are open to discussion and wiling to listen. i for one, am glad you are the community manager and glad to have gotten to know you over the last year, here's to the next! Wish you the best!

you bud,

Mr. Krispy Kreme -
"StevenI Tribute

When Steven was chosen as the new face of LBP last year, there was no doubt that he was the man who had his heart most into the LBP community. Since then, he has not failed to show his passion for the community still. He had a plan when he became he leader, and he has diligently stuck to it for almost a year. Unrecognized creators have been more well-known, and the transition to two brand-new LBP games was created. Steven has been an influential force in assisting spreading news and improving communication with the LBP players.

Personally, Steven is a driven man, a compassionate friend, and a very devoted person. He coesn't care if you are an aged, professional gamer or a young, unknown creator. He has been someone who pays attention to people, and he constantly throws himself out to do his best to improve the community. I wish Steven the best, and I look forward to seeing what he can do for the community in the future. Happy Steven Appreciation Day!"

When Spaff moved on to other tasks at Mm and his replacement was announced, I couldn?t think of a better person to take over the position than StevenI. It just made sense! What?s funny is even though I?d heard of him pretty much since the beginning of LBP, I've really only known him personally the last year or so. Regardless, I've always felt that he was like a kindred spirit and happy that I finally had the opportunity to get to know him better. I feel quite honored to share a few thoughts about him and if you oblige me:

Happy Birthday StevenI!! Wishing you a fantastic day!!

My first interaction with StevenI was on LittleBigWorkshop back in early 2009 (maybe 3 months after LBP1 launched). If I remember right, he had already begun to stand out as someone special because he was so knowledgeable about everything going on in the community and he was actually nice, which was a unique trait for someone to have on the Workshop back then

I have interacted with him throughout the years, sometimes talking about a level of mine (always in a negative way since StevenI isn't a big fan of the ridiculously long levels that I enjoy making), other times talking about LBP stories, and other times just chatting. I believe that everyone who has had the chance to talk with him knows that he has an excellent sense of humor, and it is pretty much impossible to not laugh when you are chatting with him.

Meeting StevenI in Sweden was a real treat. It was pretty surreal to be sitting there playing LBP Vita long before it launched, and having StevenI sitting there chatting with me for long lengths of time. And I still laugh about it because he would just sit there watching me make mistakes and make fun me. Like I said, he's hard to be around if you don't enjoy laughing :-D

I honestly could go on and on talking about how glad I am to have StevenI as Community Coordinator, and praising him for what a good job he has done. I'm guessing we will be hearing a lot of it throughout the day (plus we also discussed StevenI in great length on PocketMoonPodcast ep#35), so that's why I decided to just stick with a short bit about my experiences with him.

The LBP Community would certainly not be as amazing as it is without him!

Happy Birthday Steven!

You did great job for the community. I love your Playstation blog posts, twitter announces, MM picks and all your help for the LBP community. Also thanks for helping me with the contests for our Russian LBP fan site!

I hope that you will continue your great job as community coordinator and that it will be fun for you to be our "MM insider"

Now this is the most awesome idea EVAH.

We can I start? Maybe I can't make a great speech like Put's or Mr. Poo, but I think we can all agree that StevenI is the best community coordinator we've ever met for any community! His nonstop work has to be appreciated, because LBP wouldn't be the same without it.

Happy birthday Steven! Keep being AWESOMESAUCE!

Happy Birthday Steven! Thank you so much for everything you do and for being so patient when we badger you to put spotlight hubs and contest hubs in the News. Much appreciated.

As it's a special occasion I'll see if Hubbie can spare you a cookie or two.

Hey Steven! You're absolutely welcome and, well, you certainly deserve it.

It looks like I've got a new episode of the PocketMoonPodcast to keep an eye out for too. You are correct. I promise that we absolutely did not spend any more than 23 minutes telling endearing/amusing/embarrassing stories about you.

Seriously though, Happy Birthday Steven and thank you so much for what you've done for us in the Spotlight Crew with the newsfeeds and such. Thank you. Wellity well... I shall say that Steven is a spiffing fellow!
Why, every time I tell him about great levels that the spotlight crew have found he thinks it is news worthy! And it's a lot of work, sometimes I get an email at 2 in the morning letting me know the news has gone to print. Timezones are ever so tricky!

However; Own special days means own special cakes, and that means one less cake for me!

When I miss out on cake, I get... miffed... one could say, if one were disposed to such harsh language... Its a rather unpleasent state of affairs, me without cake, I must say. Why, one time I missed out on cake... Well, lets just say that the Spotlight crew banned me from using the chocolate sauce fountian gun in the secret jumping castle room. Er... Where was I? Oh yes...

Cake. May I has some?

I'm sorry I didn't get here yesterday. Things have been completely crazy with me leaving my job and trying to be a freelance illustrator. I did wish you a happy birthday on twitter, though, and I was on the podcast, so I hope that makes up for it? ^___^

I tried writing a big, long sappy story about the first time I encountered you and I just kept erasing it because I sounded dumb. I said what I had to say on the podcast... so just listen to that.

Happy Steven Appreciation day and birthday, sir!

Happy belated birthday Stev-o! (I don't care if you don't like it, I want to call you Stev-o dagnabbit!)

Whilst I have a few piccies of your glorious mug on my hard drive, I'm at work at the moment, and caught up big time in real life. However, I thought it right to come by and spend a few minutes to tell you how awesome you are, and that you are indeed appreciated by at least 99.9% of this wonderful community. Indeed, many of us find it a joy to see such an awesome community member now working to improve the franchise of LBP to be the best it can be, and I'm sure you and the team in.... LBP land I guess... will succeed!

Hope you had a great day!
