Whirly Bird xD

Hi LBPCentral membs.
Im currently working on my "day in the life of a..." level - you be what you want to be xD

the hardest feature of this is going to be my chopper (helicopter) i have all features for it ready I'E the cannon which shoots paintballs and rockets, the paint balls will be needed if you want them for the boss at end of my level because he has paintball HP and also has rocket launcher damage at the end (personally its suppose to be made HARDER than the Boss on the MGS Pack, shadow moses i think but im not sure really, so your going to need a couple friends xD.) anyway the rocket launcher on the helicopter is usable on the boss at the start to destroy its main cannon which will either obliterate your helicopter or be stupid and miss, so its going to help you if it misses.

but anyway the Helicopter is what im working on so if anyone has suggestions to how i can make it operatable to fly around thanks, i have a rough idea.
Zommy

EDIT: lol any help atall will be thanked much please dont steal my ideas but just ask xD

The easy way is to stick it to a piston and make a two way or three way switch in the helicopter set to direction. I'm not so sure what the goal is? Left/right movement or free 4 directional movement. The latter wil most likely require that the helicopter hovers but it's hard to compensate for different amounts of players..

You could also work out something with two pistons, one horizontal, one vertical. It would make flying more like operating a crane though..

Thats probably the best way to do it, if you want you could make the vertical piston loose so that it won't just hang stiff in the air. I think that the best control system would be to put four grab switches in the cockpit and wire them to 4 winches controlling two 3-way switches, one for vertical and one for horizontal movement.
Hope that helped!

Thanks thats a good idea so i will try that, it seems flawless really my only idea was like the hot air baloon in the omi's volcano level.

This helps alot because i was trying to get all rockets and stuff to operate it as wanted but it didnt work.

Thanks lots
but for the vertical one i might use a wynch but i realise how many bad things might happen because the helicopters only made of cardboard

Well the hot air balloon from the story level is certainly doable BUT you can never get it working like a helicopter.

To make it controllable you need to make it somewhat slow. If you stop the thrust with a helicopter it drops like a stone, which makes it hard to control. Creating a hover mechanism with rockets is an excercise in patience and madness. Hovering by a balloon though removes a lot of these problems.

You probably could make a balloon disguised as a helicopter though .

You just gave me an AMAZING idea for a survival level. Dont know how but THANKS! Sorry that I cant help about your idea though. A 3 way switch would be best in my opinion.2009-01-23 16:35:00

Also I have a little piston trick for you if you didn't know about it already.

You can hide the piston entirely making it look like the helicopter is still floating in the air and all you have to do is set the minimum length to 0. Isn't that neat? I was planning on keeping this secret if people didn't know it already and make a cool level with a bunch of seemingly floating platforms.

Also I don't know if you know this either but if you have the piston connected to two things you can put a block between them without breaking the piston so it looks like the piston goes straight through it.

I highly recommend using invisible pistons and the double three way winch system.

If you aren't sure entirely how to do this I could make a sample level at your request and publish it as a copyable level.
