How did he do that?!

Archive: 8 posts

OK, so I was watching the CC16 video, and was wondering, HOW ON EARTH DID DEXILLION DO THIS?! It's quite the amazing effect, but I just can't work it out. I have some Ideas about it already, however I am wanting to know how you guys think he did it. Also, Dex (or "Rogar"), if you happen to see this, feel free to respond Anyhoo, here's a pic of the effect:

Yea, that was one of my ideas. My other though was a sticker panel with an orange ring sticker on it, that was then tweaked to the right settings, then plopped face-first into a hungry emitter.2013-01-23 01:17:00

Maybe frequence positively depending on the speed of the device, to add more fun. (If you want to use the same system, it could be nice)2013-01-23 01:32:00

Thanks! I don't visit here a lot, mostly hang around the Karting section these days, so it would have been faster to send me a PM or PSN message.

You guessed it, it's hologram with a circle sticker on top, though it's not emitted. What I did was create the stack of rings, then tie the rings together with elastic so they stay close to their upstairs and downstairs neighbours, then introduced some random movement with (3? 4? Can't remember ) pistons at regular intervals. The pistons are directional, and driven by a randomiser. The elastic just follows the piston-driven rings, you can recognise them somewhat by the more angular movement.

In stead of emitting, the whole thing just hangs glued underneath the machine invisibly until lift-off, at which point I just turn up the brightness of the hologram to make it appear.
