Overgrown Palace

Level Name: Overgrown Palace
Creator: DocRock64

I've had this level out for a while now, but not getting alot of feedback on it. I had this in a different thread, but didnt get a single bit of feedback, so I got it on the F4F in hopes that someone will look at my level.

It has to do with a large palace which is slowly being overgrown by a forest.

The level is split into 6 areas.

Part one is a palace. It has several floors to navigate and monsters to kill. The second part is a heavily wooded area where you have to swing and jump through branches to reach prize bubbles and goodies. After that, there is a large snake protecting it's hole which it burrowed into a large tree. From there, you come across a large tree of sorts which has many different sections to explore and climb. After this, you'll climb atop two huge elephants, and slide down into another large tree-like maze with lifts and goodies everywhere. Then finally, you'll get back to another palace and complete the level.

This level can take up to 30-40 minutes to complete if you get all of the prize bubbles. It is not a real hard level, but takes some thinking to get through some spots or to get to certain prize goodie bubbles.

I really enjoyed making this level, and like I said, have not had alot of feedback on it. Please give it a shot and let me know what you think.

I thought it was a pretty cool level. I gave it 4/5 stars.

Pros:
Visually impressive in places.
Nice placement of prize bubbles
Nice use of MM's objects (like the grab wheels, as seen in the first screenshot)

Cons:
It's easy to jump into the background layer. like in the windows in the temple.
Could've done with more custom enemies.
Could've been a tad more challenging.

Entity, I couldn't find any of your levels to do a feedback on, but I'll keep an eye on this thread and give you a feedback when I see something of yours published.

Joeyman, I played your Mechanical Bull level.

Pros:
1. A lot of fun, especially with more than one player, fighting over the bull, almost like a "king of the mountain" fight.
2. A good challenge. Really thought it was cool how you put so many obstacles in the road for the bull to churn over.

Cons:
1. If ya fall off the bull, in some places it's real hard to get back on. Would be cool if ya could attach the life ring to the bull somehow, so that if ya die in the fire or get smashed, you repsawn on the bull - instead of way back at the start.
2. Got stuck on one of the bridges..the bull wouldnt go forward or back.

Overall, a lot of fun and a good challenge. Was good for a laugh, especially when sackboy got crushed under the treads.

I hearted it and gave it a 4/5 score.

I found the Overgrown Palace thread in looking for some other F4F level that looked good and hadn't gotten nearly enough replies. I was impressed by the pictures you captured and I think they capture the essence of the level. Overall, I think it was a very well done level.

Pros:
The variety of areas was impressive. Even though you mixed woods and palace together it felt like they went together, I think because of the classic Persian/Indian style of the palace.
The organic structure of the trees in the forest areas is beautful. The swinging and pully also fit into the theme as best as pullies and swinging sponges in the forest can.
The level felt like it almost could have been a (condensed) Story level but...

Cons:
The level felt kinda short despite the many hidden bubbles.
The level was pretty easy and the deaths I had didn't feel fair (not the right word... more like they were frustrating and I didn't feel like skill was the problem).
There weren't any characters to tell a story... the snake felt like he should give me a warning or quest or something.

I had fun playing the level and will try some of your others.

Thanks for the review. A couple folks have said that about the spawn point, or life ring. I am going to try that out and maybe get some more feedback from you and them.

Getting stuck, yeah the old bull gets stuck sometimes but I find it rare in my experience. Sometimes it gets hung on a big chunk of debris but I wait a few seconds and she will start chugging right back up and keep going.

Thank so much for the review and the tips. I will post again when I get her updated.

I cant wait to get to savor your level. So far it is awesome looking.

Oh and wanted to add for anyone reading the review and wanting to give it a whirl, I put up a training level for folks who want to practice a little before giving the real thing a go

Monochrome by larryjoe701

This is a difficult level. I wasn't able to complete it because there were no clues what to do or how to get things to work. It was also very dark, and alot of times I had no idea where a jump would take me, so I died alot.

Pros:
1.Some lighting looks real nice, especially at the very beginning. It had a nice chrome look.
2. The glass stair step where it pushed you higher and and higher was very cool. I think it would be a cool prize bubble.

Cons:
1. Too dark.
2. No obvious path to take. Too much guessing. Need the magic mouth to give you some kind of directions what to actually do to make things work the way they need to.
3.Couldn't finish the level. I got to the place with all of the mult-colored lifts but it was so dark there, I had no idea if my jump would end up in a safe place.

Overall I gave it a 2/5 stars. Needs work and better directions.

Hey Doc I played your level through a few times with my wife watching and she kept asking, "are you sure this is user made"? I understand why. The level is so very polished, it looks like one MM built. All of your materials and shapes are so very well organized and tasteful.

Your contraptions are original and well put together. I love the hanging conveyer. I like also that the hanging swings are strategically placed to make the player pay strict attention to how they transfer to the next. That tells me that you put much time and thought into it.

I assume that most everything is custom made? Those large elephants are a treat just to behold! One day I hope to have a level that is so aesthetically pleasing.

Because of the design and placement of much of your landscape there are several areas that pose plane problems for sackboy when he is navigating to here or there but I was able to work around them once I became aware of them. I enjoy levels with multiple choices as far as where to go next and there were several in this level.

It kept my attention,I never got bored and I was always looking forward to the next part and I look forward to any changes you might make. In my opinion this level gets 1 Heart, 4 stars, and a "Beautiful" tag. To get that last star, you could add just a little more "fun" value and make it just a little longer. For a creator like yourself that would be about as hard a falling off a log.

Just played it

I rated it four out of five stars.

I think a more appropriate name would be "The temple of the forest" as the palace sections are completely separate from the forest sections. The best way to remedy this, would be to embed a lot of Aztec gold, and similar marble/stone type materials in the woods. I appreciate how much work has gone into this. I liked the custom enemies.

Personally, I though that the level was too short, and the enemies were exactly the same as the ingame ones with a paintjob.

It was faar too easy to accidently jump into the windows of the palace! Almost every jump landed me there. Now I know that the only person at fault is MM, but one way to remedy this, is to add a thin layer of glass, or another see-through material (like wooden struts) so you don't accidentaly jump there. This is very fustrating, so should be fixed asap!

I rated 4/5 and tagged "multipath"

Playing your Elephant pyramid now!

EDIT: So can I get feedback now? post on my thread
