I think that some of the series should go to Double Fine, since they've made underrated gems like Physchonauts and Brutal Legend. | 2013-01-23 02:11:00 Author: amoney1999 Posts: 1202 |
I think that some of the series should go to Double Fine, since they've made underrated gems like Physchonauts and Brutal Legend. Double Fine will probably be trying to acquire anything related to games they made that THQ published (like Stacking and Costume Quest) that they don't currently own. | 2013-01-23 02:24:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Double Fine will probably be trying to acquire anything related to games they made that THQ published (like Stacking and Costume Quest) that they don't currently own. They've said as much. Basically, Double Fine is only interested in the rights to their own games, so they could do whatever they want with them in the future. Besides, wouldn't you rather Double Fine make NEW gems in the future, rather than merely polishing someone else's work? I can't say I've ever played any of their games, but I know I'd want my favorite developers to work on their own ideas instead of other people's stuff. | 2013-01-23 02:38:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
If this is accurate Sega buys Relic and Company of Heroes: $26 Million Koch Media buys Evolve: $5.2 Million Crytek buys Homefront: 500,000 $ It’s still early days and as yet nothing’s confirmed, but it’s looking like some of THQ’s bigger titles have been picked up in the auction that kicked off last night. One German site (http://www.gamersglobal.de/news/63674/thq-verkauf-sega-kauft-relic-koch-evolve-crytek-homefront) seems to be on the ball, suggesting that SEGA have bought Relic and Company of Heroes (for $26million), Koch Media have bought Evolve (for $5.2million) and Crytek have snapped up the Homefront license (for half a million dollars). At the moment it appears that Volition (with Saints Row, surely one of the most lucrative franchises currently on offer), Vigil and Metro: Last Light haven’t been sold yet. EA and Warner were both said to be intereste (http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2013/01/07/thq-titles-up-for-auction-on-22nd-ea-and-warner-both-interested/)d in THQ’s roster, with the initial bankruptcy filing (http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2012/12/20/thq-bankruptcy-filing-reveals-new-games-working-titles/) revealing some of the names that have already been sold in the auction. http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2013/01/23/thq-auction-rumours-point-to-sega-picking-up-relic-crytek-buying-homefront/ | 2013-01-23 10:52:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Let's hope the assets and IP's end up in the hands of a company like Ubisoft, Warner Bros or 2K, and not with the likes of EA or Activision. | 2013-01-23 13:50:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |
Let's hope the assets and IP's end up in the hands of a company like Ubisoft, Warner Bros or 2K, and not with the likes of EA or Activision. Even though Ubisoft is right on the edge. But let's hope that THQ doesn't sell its soul to the devil. | 2013-01-23 13:53:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |

So Darksiders didn't get any bids... Shame. While the second game had too much loot, had a lackluster second half, and I loathed the story, it was pretty much the only action-adventure game in the vein of Zelda out there. :/ | 2013-01-23 22:23:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

Personally I'm not so sad about THQ being gone. It's not that I hate them, it's just that none of their games really appeal to me, and some I was just disappointed with (like Homefront) | 2013-01-24 03:43:00 Author: amoney1999 Posts: 1202 |

Sales have been approved. Jan. 24, 2013 05: 35 UTC Court Grants Motion to Approve Sale of THQ Inc. Assets Majority of Titles, Studios Expected to Continue Development with Financial Backing of New Owners AGOURA HILLS, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– THQ Inc. (OTC: THQIQ), a leading worldwide developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software, today announced that the U.S. Bankruptcy Court has granted a motion to approve a sale of the majority of THQ’s assets to multiple buyers. The company expects the Court to enter a formal order tomorrow. The Court approved the sales of three of THQ’s owned studios and games in development, as well as Evolve, a working title under development at Turtle Rock Studios, Homefront 2, Metro: Last Light and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Under the terms of the agreements with the successful and approved bidders, the THQ estate will receive approximately $72 million, making the total estimated value of the estate $100 million including certain assets and other intellectual properties which were excluded from the sale. The Court approved the sale of Relic Studios to Sega Corporation for $26.6 million; the sale of Volition Inc. and Metro: Last Light to Koch Media GmbH for $22.3 million and $5.9 million, respectively; the sale of Homefront 2 to Crytek GmbH for $0.5 million; the sale of Evolve to Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. for $10.9 million; and the sale of THQ Montreal and South Park: The Stick of Truth to Ubisoft LLC for $2.5 million and $3.3 million, respectively. Excluded from the sales were the company’s publishing businesses, Vigil Games, and certain other assets and intellectual properties, which will remain part of the THQ estate and will continue in the Chapter 11 process. Brian Farrell, Chairman and CEO of THQ, noted, “While we had hoped that the restructuring process would allow the company to remain intact, I am heartened that the majority of our studios and games will continue under new ownership. It has been my pleasure to work alongside this great group of people, and I am proud of the imaginative and artistic games that our team has created. Although we will no longer be able to work together with a unified mission, I am confident that the talent we have assembled will continue to make an impression on the video game industry. For those whose positions are not likely to continue, I sincerely regret this outcome and we will be meeting with you over the next few days to discuss the transition.” Jason Rubin, President of THQ, added, “I was brought in eight months ago to help turn this ship around, and while I’m disappointed that we could not effect a sale for the entire operating business, I am pleased that the new buyers will be providing jobs to many of our very talented personnel. When we first announced the sale process, I said I would be happy if the company’s games and people had a bright future, even if it meant I did not have a job at the end of it. And I still feel that way.” The new owners have not articulated their plans for the assets, or their intentions to extend employment to THQ employees included in the sale. THQ expects the new owners to extend employment to most employees and to continue development of the games they purchased that are currently in development. The assets that are not included in the sale agreements will remain part of the Chapter 11 case. THQ will continue to seek appropriate buyers, if possible. THQ will continue to employ a small number of headquarters staff beyond January 25 to assist with the transition. Qualified bids received by January 22 were reviewed by the company and the creditors committee. Through an auction process that lasted 22 hours yesterday and today, the successful bidders were determined, and the hearing to approve the sales took place this afternoon. Ten bidders participated in the proceedings, including bids for the entire company as well as for individual assets. The sales are expected to close tomorrow, January 24. Clearlake Capital Group, L.P. had submitted a “stalking horse” bid for substantially all of THQ’s assets in December 2012. In accordance with Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, the Court supervised an auction to determine the highest and best bid(s) for the company’s assets in accordance with the bid procedures approved by the Court. Clearlake will receive a break-up fee of $1 million, as stated in its stalking horse asset purchase agreement. THQ and its domestic business units filed voluntary petitions under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware on Dec. 19, 2012. The Chapter 11 case will continue for THQ. | 2013-01-24 14:43:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |

I'm positive that Homefront will do good in the hands of Crytek, since they perfected the Crysis series (although I absolutely HATE Crysis 2) | 2013-01-27 03:18:00 Author: amoney1999 Posts: 1202 |
I'm positive that Homefront will do good in the hands of rytek, since they perfected the Crysis series (although I absolutely HATE Crysis 2) Homefront 2 is being developed by Crytek UK, they did the multiplayer for Crysis 2 and 3 as well as the Timesplitters series and Haze back when they were Free Radical. It looks like Cryteks bid on the homefront IP was a bit of an insurance policy, it's enough to protect the year+ of work they have already done (at THQs expense) if there's no other bids (which turned out to be the case) and also low enough to have been outbid if there was any other interest in the IP. | 2013-01-27 11:03:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/28/crytek-usa-to-be-headed-by-former-vigil-boss/ Crytek just snatched up 35 Vigil team memebrs and named them Crytek UK. While it's nice to see them have their jobs back, I hope they'll be working on another game like Darksiders and not just a shooter. MAbe Crytek could snatch up "Crawler" (what they were working on) in the THQ back up auctions? | 2013-01-28 23:15:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
THQ has announced that it will be auctioning off the intellectual property rights for a large portion of its back catalogue, including Darksiders, Red Faction and Homeworld. The full list of properties up for sale, broken into six lots and posted in full after the break (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/26/darksiders-homeworld-red-faction-and-other-ips-next-on-thq-auc/#continued), also includes games like Destroy All Humans! and numerous licensed products. Once interested bidders have gone through the proper channels, initial bids must be submitted by April 1, 2013, with final bids due on April 15. Once all bids have been submitted, THQ will talk the situation over with the various entities it owes money to and will then designate a primary and back-up bid for each lot. Once all that has been completed, the sales will be presented to the court for final approval, expected to take place in May. Thank god. Really really hope Darksiders goes to a good home. Anyone have any ideas for what dev would be a good fit? I'd like to say Sony Santa Monica but that's probably wishful thinking given the similarities in genre to God of War. I heard Platinum were interested but after seeing what they did to Rising I don't really wanna see them... I won't say destroy... but completely misdirect another favourite series, spin-off or no. | 2013-02-28 15:55:00 Author: Burrich Posts: 1018 |
CRYTEK TO BID ON DARKSIDERS RIGHTS http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/03/28/crytek-plans-to-bid-on-darksiders-rights Crytek, you may remember, got the core of the team on the first two Darksiders to form Crytek USA. Thus, the series amy soon be back with most of the original creators. My only concern is that Crytek wants to turn everything F2P, so... I dunno But still, looks VERY likely we'll see a Darksiders III yet! | 2013-03-29 00:03:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
Looks like THQ stuff is being Pulled from some webstores Was this brought up yet? Space Marine, de Blob 2 and Red Faction Guerrilla can no longer be found on the EU webstore. I expect the same to happen on US PSN as well, so if you have any interest in at least RFG or de Blob 2 better grab them US PSN asap as I expect the same to happen there. Space Marine is now published by SEGA as it was part of a discounted bundle on Gamersgate, so hopefully it'll show up on PSN again in the near future. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=531060 In what seems to be a legacy of its status as a franchise in limbo, a message has been posted on the European Wii U eShop advising that the title will no longer be available to purchase after 31st March; if you already own it and need to re-download, you'll still be able to do so after this date. Typically when titles have disappeared from the Wii Shop in the past, for example, it's been due to licensing or legal issues. No details have been provided by Nintendo, so it's unclear whether this was a Nintendo decision or something enforced externally. At the time of writing there's no similar message in the North American eShop, but we'll keep an eye out for any updates. If you are in Europe and fancy having Darksiders II sitting safely on your hard drive, you'll need to take the plunge this weekend. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/03/darksiders_ii_to_disappear_from_the_wii_u_eshop_af ter_31st_march | 2013-03-29 02:25:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
