Invasion of the Cow Collectors

Archive: 6 posts

Hello LBPvita community,

I am pleased to announce my new LBP vita Level! I put a lot of work into this level, so I'm hoping people will try it and leave me some feedback! It's got menus, achievments, a high score recorder, and of course, COWS! Please try it and let me know what you think!

Unfortunately, I don't really know how to add a lbp.me link in a thread, so please just follow this link

http://vita.lbp.me/v/-k2ge

I hope that works, if not please search for "Invasion of the Cow Collectors". I hope everyone enjoys the level!

Hi zirconia_man !
Really god job you did there ! That's a nice mini-game with a really good design and animations ! The goal is pretty simple, but catchy, with a nice scoring system (memorizer) and achievements. The music fits perfect with the atmosphere too.
I just think that's a little bit long to become hard. Maybe you could also allow the player to see the "tractor ray" timer, it could be smoother... Personally, I think that a simple timer set with "Forwards/Backwards" would have been simpler (if the player activates it, it decreases ; else it increases). But if you don't want to do it, just do as you want, that's just my opinion !
I and <3 . Great job again !

Thanks for the feedback! I'm really glad that you enjoyed the game, and I really appreciate your feedback! The tractor beam idea is a great one, and my wife actually suggested the same thing (great minds I guess). I will probably do it, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Personally, I agree with you that it ramps up a little slowly. I would like to find a more optimal progression behavior, but I A) haven't had time to work on it yet, and B) I made the game for my wife who does not play video games very often and also has MS so she needs it to be a little easier than the average gamer. Ideally, I would be able to add a easy and normal mode. I think I know how I would do it, but it'll take some time. Sadly, I got really excited about the project, so at some point I became a lot more intersted in making progress on the level rather than keeping my logic organized. . I'll get around to it though. Thanks for the feedback!

Gwaeon said most of what I would have said, the goo and the bad, so no need to repeat that
Few other ideas: I nice big loud squelch as the cows land and splat would be nice, and perhaps a few more things that will damage you (a tractor passing by, or a farmer (perhaps the alien shop could be sick if you pick it up and throw it back out again?)
It's a real fun little game, and yep, love the achievements lost, but the game doesn't offer enough variety.... Perhaps power ups to increase the length of time the tractor beam works for? Maybe suck up things that can then be dropped on things to cause damage/get more points? : suck up a car, drop it on the building to destroy it etc?
How about makin the scenery change as if you are moving along? (3d layer glitch would e good for that)
Perhaps use the left hand stick instead of bumper buttons? That way you could move up and down as well as left and right, you could avoid planes and electricity pylons?

.... Just a few ideas?

Would love to receive some feed back on my
Too down shooter if you fancy it https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=77449-Renegade-assault-(Top-Down-Shooter)-beta

U got some awesome suggestions there...

I agree to be able to see when u can use the beamray and when not. The games starts very slow and takes pretty long to become harder. I was suprised that the blue cows doesnt give anymore points. The achievments are a nice plus. Visuals are simple but fun. Good minigame.

Hey there zirconia_man! How are you doin'?
I just wanted o plop on by and say I played your level last night (I think I smiled it? I dunno it was at like two in the morning for me).
It was a neat little minigame, and I think it's a strong base for an AWESOME little mini game.

I agree with what everyone else says.

Specifically I want to say I agree with:

, I think that a simple timer set with "Forwards/Backwards" would have been simpler (if the player activates it, it decreases ; else it increases)
I think that would be a more more elegant solution to what you currently have going for your tractor beam logic, it's probably also SIMPLER too, I bet!

I don't think I was playing with the sound on, so I cannot comment on the sound, perhaps I'll go back and replay it to comment on the sound later though?

I had one other major issue though:
The controls.
Is there any particular reason you chose L and R for movement, and the back trackpad for the tractor beam?
In my opinion it just made the game frustrating to play (to the point where I just stopped playing your level, despite loving the quirkyness of it.)
The trackpad just doesn't seem like a good control choice. I accidentally hit it a few times, and accidentally took my fingers off it a few times, and just got frustrated.

I feel like using the X button for the tractor beam would just be a lot simpler, you know?
And perhaps having it set up where you can use L and R OR the D-Pad to control your ship would be nice!

D-Pad + X button = nice and simple controls. And you could also make it so L and R work for movement so that way if people really wanted to, they could use either or.

I hope to hear back from you and see you update your level!
LBPC is great for feedback, but it's only great for your level if you utilize said feedback.

Keep on creating!
