Having Objects Pass Through Each Other

Archive: 9 posts

I'm making a space invaders level where I need to ensure that the enemies in the back of the other enemies do not hit the enemies in front of them when they shoot. Otherwise it'll send them off course and tilt them in a direction that I don't want them to be in. Is there a way I can make the projectiles coming out of my emitters passable through the enemy objects? Thank you in advance for your help!2013-01-19 06:30:00

Yes, you'll want to use Hologram/Sticker Panel.
Generally you'll always want to use those materials for projectiles so you can choose what will and will not cause your projectile to explode.

There's really no other way to do what you're trying to do if you don't like Holograms texture or Sticker Panels boldness.

well you could always use decorations on invisible holo or sticker panel, although decos may not suit a space invaders level

I fail to see how that's any different from what I said. Granted I was talking more about stickers, but I figured decorations would just be encompassed within that.

I think what he was talking about is that you could possibly use some decorations in conjunction with a piece of hologram. It's because even at full brightness, a hologram isn't completely opaque and when put against a light background, it will be hard to see. This could be overcome by making the whole level darker, but you could possibly find a decoration that will suit a space invaders level and stick it on top of the hologram and use that as your projectile.

Oh okay. I haven't really messed around with holograms too much, but basically the collision detector will still be able to tell that it collided into the player even though it can go through him since it's a hologram?

Correct. The 'Include Touching' setting on Impact Sensors includes things like Hologram hitting solid objects or other non-collidable stuff.

Note that you can set your collision sensor to require a specific tag, and tags can be labeled. You could use a different tag for each type of enemy fire, if needed.

well you didnt mention stickers either, you just suggested sticker panel and holo, both of which can be used by themselves.
