[How To] Make a Circular Object Travel Around a Surface/Material

Archive: 15 posts

this is a quick guide compiled from a post I made in the help section. Might have more use to ppl if available here in the tutorials section.

Ill post pics and a step by step walk through of how Ive arrived at this solution and I'm sure you'll have no problem tweaking it to your particular application. In the example I'm providing the round plasmafied object travels clockwise around the exterior of said structure.

1. First adjust your create settings to match mine. will make it easier to follow along. Check "Front View" and set the grid to "Medium"

2. Bring out the basic Cardboard material and set it to "Static" don't bother with layer settings, leave it one wide and create a 5x5 square. and then reduce the material tool and cut a square from the center.

3. After completing the surface go back into your Material Tool and select the circle. Also dont forget to change its setting to "Dynamic." Place the round on top of the top left corner.

4.Its logic Time!
For this step we will need a
"Rotator", "Material Tweaker" , "Gravity Tweaker" & a "Not Gate"
In the provided snapshots ive listed all the necessary settings. Match them to replicate this example.

4a. The "Rotator" and "Gravity Tweaker" get applied to the rotating object.

4b. The "Material Tweaker" and the "Not Gate" get applied to the structure. The "Not Gate" needs to be wired into the input of the "Material Tweaker" and then back into its own input to create a pulse.

5. Hit the round with your favorite danger tool (for this example we will be using plasma) step back and unpause the create space. The now lethal round object travels effortlessly clockwise around the outer edge!

nice, cool idea! I didn't see anything that might prove otherwise, but this will work in lbp2 correct?2013-01-16 23:05:00

Yes it works just fine I just personally tested it to make sure.
The only minor change is a way to secure your base platform as LBP2 materials don't operate under the static/dynamic pretense

(off the top of my head i would suggest slowing it down slightly or decreasing its gravity slightly)
If your tweaking travel speeds or material types than you will need to adjust the various logic settings to appropriate values
if you need a hand i would be more than happy to debug it with you. The example i provided above is really only a quick example/simple solution. The logic will require a change here and there depending on the application. Also like other things in LBP there are always different methods of achieving similar results

Let me know.

I switched things around and made the structure static and the round piece dynamic. This worked for me. The other way around the square just dangled there. I think this is a typo?2013-03-15 20:24:00
