My First LBP Creation: Sugar Rush

Archive: 8 posts

Hey everyone, as my profile slogan says: "From the Pacific Rift to the Imagisphere", I've made the jump from one community to another as of the termination of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift's online servers. I come bearing gifts, however, with this sugar plantation factory themed level, which took me forever to make because it was the first time I've even stepped foot into LittleBigPlanet's create mode. I had the first game, ignored the second, and now have Karting ... so I've missed one.

There seem to be numerous "Sugar Rush" levels out already, mostly themed around "Wreck It Ralph" ... and of course, the game's story mode itself contains a level named "Sugar Rush" ... Well sorry, but Evolution Studios did it in MotorStorm first so I give you yet another "Sugar Rush" as tribute to MotorStorm, which you may queue here: https://karting.lbp.me/v/25wt

It's a tricky level because the sharpness of some of the corners don't allow for drifts to be completed ... but to those of you who struggle to keep your kart out of the walls, may I remind you the controller does feature a "brake button", which I suggest you use to get used to the track ... then you'll find you don't need the brake at all

Couple words of warning, you are not equipped with a grapple hook at the start of the race. You must, in fact, find it as it is hidden. Finding it will grant you access to the infamous "rooftop jump" that Sugar Rush became notorious for in MotorStorm. You will then lose the grapple hook at the designated zone to allow you the decision as to whether you will risk going for the grapple hook again on the next lap or not. Note: If you collect the grapple hook but are then killed before using it, you lose it, which I believe may be out of my hands ... just something that happens in the game. But now I quite like the extra risk it adds, should you strive for this much faster route on all 3 laps.

I don't really have any decent pictures of it, but the thumbnail is a bird's eye view to give you the general gist of things. Actually, I do have a video of it if you're a "try before you buy" type: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b70OiVh9dro Thermometer was packed to the max, but that doesn't always mean brilliance. I think I wasted a fair bit of it and could have used it more wisely.

Hopefully you enjoy the track. There are a number of paths at the start to avoid those closed doors. They do open, but only for lap 3. I didn't dare touch the logic, so it's more a visual homage than a creative piece. I think I'll watch a few more AdiposeTV tutorials before making another track.

Keep making little changes that I think will better suit everyone. As I'd removed the Boxing Glove and the Blue Rocket from the get go as they could never navigate my track, I've added a new triple boost weapon and have tuned the Flash Bang weapon to force slow motion instead of stun, as I don't think that helps the people in 6th - 8th at all.

Also, for anyone who's played it, you'll know how technical it can get up those first couple of ramps. The new drag should prevent you from going too fast and will really help with the tight cornering.

Haha, this got Team Picked, which made my day last week. All the new Team Picks are now being added to the very bottom of the list, whereas the Christmas-themed Wintery Wonderland levels are staying at the top ... so if you've not clicked on Team Picks in a while, scroll down to find more. That Nightmare Castle is a great battle one ... and Patdid's French planet is finally making waves too ... his Excallibur track has also been Team Picked.2013-02-10 01:07:00
