My lbp vita stage alphabetical crisis part 1&2

Archive: 16 posts

Hello everyone, this is my first F4F attempt and do apologize if I'm doing anything horrendously wrong lol. I just recently published these levels and am looking for pointers about certain things. Hard to describe really, but I think if people played my level they would see some of the holes I'm referring to. Would appreciate the help!

My levels link is: http://www.vita.lbp.me/v/-4vy2

Hi there !
So that's a simple platformer, pretty nice with some good gameplay's ideas ! Maybe you could have detailed the level's background a bit more... but that's cool enough ! It's also a pretty long and includes various obstacles.
Keep creating !

Thanks gamer guy and gwaeron. Yeah, alphabetical crisis part 2 I tried to put more detail to it but one thing is bothering me guys. .... How do you make touch enabled objects indestructible? Someone told me that they broke the letters and I'm wondering how would I make them indestructible?

EDIT:

Oh and gwaeron, I qeued your levels so I'll check your levels out too buddy

Hi, just played your Levels in Multiplayer, its a real fun platformer, especially the 2nd Level, is really nice. We enjoyed it very much, got quite a good score too ^^ the idea let me kinda fell stupid tbh... but the platforming parts are nice... the visual style of the level is pretty good... that the boxes are destructible is really a big minus... u cant just put a material tweaker on them an make them indestructible... and u cant CAN actually tweak the movement speed of the object, so the chances of it glitching or breaking minimize even more... maybe 80% or something... yeah...

Nice Level tho.

Awwww man so you can't make them indestructible? ? That kinda sucks! That means I'll have to change my design approach. But thanks for playing and offering feedback. I qeued some of your levels and I'll check them out when I can. I appreciate it!2013-01-11 01:01:00

I've queued up your level "THE CRISIS part 1.", and I'll sink some time into tonight. If you don't mind give my level "The Art Gallery" a try, and give me some feedback. http://vita.lbp.me/v/-dxj2

Thanks

Hello!
Review:
Hmm ... Crisis? Don't really thing so .__. It's like LBP Story level crushed in a one level, expect swimming part (where I couldn't continue)
and the touching objects :3 I broke every single one! ^^ : DD (I was bored ... )

I would rate it as 50% completed level :l

Hey doggy, thanks for the feedback buddy. Yeah, I thought I used the material tweaker to make only the correct letters indestructible but I guess you can still murder them eh? Well that sucks!! I'm guessing using the touch letters is quite a design issue. I'm going to follow rough tea's advice and put a limit on their movement speed in the hopes of limiting their destructibility. God I hope that works! Because if you break one letter or one of those yellow boxes, you can no longer complete the stage! Blah! But thanks doggy for the feedback!

EDIT:

I just qeued your stage modernnomnom and I will check it out as soon as I can. A full time job, going to school and a wife and two kids kinda get in the way lol :-P. But I'll definitely get to your stage when I can. That qeuing feature is awesome isn't it? ?

Hi, poetic1der.

I tried your alphabetical series and really love it. You perfectly combined fun platforming gameplay with learning element. I like it.

I already created several mini games with letters and touch controls and words creation for my own kids. They like it very much. Unfortunately my kids can't play in your levels without my help (I live in Russia and my kids have no enough knowledges in English for it) . But I like your creation and will try to create something similar for my kids a little bit later.

So I will wait for the next levels from you. have a good creation time!

Hey thanks, I appreciate the warm words and praise. Yeah I've got a 6 year old and a 3 year old as well as a 9 year old that plays my levels. So I tried to make an educational themed level. As we speak im still working on part 3 of the crisis, but when I'm done I'll take a shot at a non educational stage for fun. Do you have any levels I can qeue and check out?

I destroyed most of the touch blocks too! I've seen a few other levels when i was browsing your planet (or whatever it was exactly called). Lots of "find the <insert random letter>" levels! Not that i played those though, i played the alphabetic crisis ones. Yes, really simple. And funny, in a way. I liked most parts, even though just grabbing a block and putting it into a place looked simple (you could make some trapdoor that opens when you put the right block there) (not just remove the floor when you get the block right, make it look cool), and the level didn't look that well. It needs some more things.. can't explain it, but make it look less simple. Some decorations, a bit smaller, more materials, and scenery objects. Second level was better than the first - it was longer and looked better (with all the neon-edge plastic) and i also liked the lamp stuff. Like when grappling something, it turns on a light, or when you put a block somewhere it turns on a light... It was quite cool.

I liked the levels, not that they're the best - they could use improvements, but it was cool! And i can't wait for part 3!

Hey poetic1der, I played this a few days ago. I think you made a very nice level here. I enjoyed all the different mechanisms you came up for when the player put in the correct letter. It made transitioning through each area fun. Having to grab the material and being pulled through the water was cool. Part 2 is my favorite because it offered a bit more of a challenge. I am looking forward to the final chapter.

My advice would be to make the player try and remember where he was at and reward the ones who do with a score bonus. If they put the wrong letter in you can then tell them what was the last letter they were on. Also as others have mentioned the level is a bit sparse so adding some more stickers or objects would help. My suggestion would be to add objects starting with the letter the player is on. It would act as a clue to what I mentioned above.
