My PS3 Died (I'm still here!)

Archive: 24 posts

Basically, my Blu-Ray laser died last night, and I don't have any money to replace or repair it. Even if the warranty was still in place, which it isn't, I bought my PS3 from eBay (never opened, but still). I don't have the money to buy the KEM-400AAA replacement laser and do the repairs myself, either, so I won't be able to do anything LittleBigPlanet related until I find some way to replace it. I'll still be around here (99% percent of the work I do for the site has nothing to do with playing the actual game), so no worries there. Just letting you guys know so you don't wonder why I'm not making levels or doing anything else in LittleBigPlanet.2009-01-19 20:58:00

Wow, that really sucks, any idea what caused the breakdown?
I hope you can find some way to get that fixed, or a least raise enough money to fix it.

Sucks dude

do you know what could hav happened

It happens quite a lot really

The Disk reader just stops reading anything at all and you can only play games off your HD
It happened to me during the BETA and luckily I could still play the BETA as it was on the HD

I just bought a new PS3 as I didn't have time to get it fixed before the release date.

Wait... why? I have a 60 and is out of warranty now. So if mine broke could mine still possibly be replaced?

Just an update:

I was able to pick up a replacement laser and a kit of "Console Tools" which are made specifically for opening up video game consoles. It cost me 90$ in total, and I should be up and running in a week at most.

Mine died january 1st of this year and I still don't have it back from repair. I bought the extended warranty plan and I am still waiting...now they are telling me it won't be until next week. I had the red flashing light of death (overheated and burned up the processor). The system isn't in a cabinet and has plenty of air moving around it...weird. See my blog for details.

I am amazed at how many people posted above and have had one die or recently just died. Mine was a 60GB I bought 12/30/2006.

Great to know you got a fix CC

And my condolances to all others who have similar problems. A friend of mine had to send in his PS3 to Sony and got it back within 2 weeks, if that can cheer anyone up!
