ROBO-RAMPAGE X (series) -SPOTLIGHTED-
Archive: 60 posts
Hi, these are the first two levels of my newest series. I am currently working on the third. These are challenging, combat oriented paintinator levels with some tricky platforming done in the old-school style. ROBO-RAMPAGE X ROBO-RAMPAGE X 2 both by Dimo1138 So far these levels have done pretty well, but they are difficult so some casual players may not enjoy them. But, I've been told that even if you are not that good it's worth a look at the opening screens! Pics now available! (thanks to my old pal, Maraz_Matari) right now they can be viewed on page two until I can figure out how to get the links into this post properly. (Those that know me are aware of my lack of computer skills.) | 2009-01-19 17:32:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
Although these levels are rather hard, they are also quite fun. I'm notoriously bad at these, but they're extremely well put together levels for people who want a challenge. Very much inspired by the mega man series, these levels are certainly a must play! oh, and dimo, you should post some pictures of your levels if you get a chance, so people can get a taste of what it's like. | 2009-01-21 01:43:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

Hey dude! Pictures would probably help, eh? I'm kind of a technophobe but you are probably right. Can I do that with a digital camera? Seriously, don't make fun, I really have never done this, but I think it would be a good idea. Could I do video too? | 2009-01-21 02:28:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
dimo, one thing you could do is export pictures you take in-game to your playstation harddrive. Then you'd just take a usb thumb drive or something, sign up for a photobucket account and follow the instructions to upload your pictures. It's pretty easy! if you want a video, you could film it with a video camera on a tripod pointed at the screen and then just upload it to youtube. that's what I do. ^_^ | 2009-01-21 04:58:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Holy cow, man... I'm playing part 1, and this level is absolutely gorgeous. Just simple red and black, but it's the ornate carving and symmetry of everything, and the subtle white light that makes everything sparkle and sheen. This is arguably the most well constructed and architecturally sound level I've seen. The emitting slider thing is sick! These enemy designs are entertainingly awesome, and this is one monumental challenge. I can definitely see it's roots in Mega Man and Mega Man X. It took me like 6 tries to beat the MID-boss... the random nature of the floating eyeballs and the vertical platforming makes him alot harder than the final boss. That final boss is AWESOME! My favorite boss yet. I love the enemy description thing. You did everything I wish I could have done with the platforming segments in Metal Slug Solid, but couldn't because of the tank. Super polished... top 5 production values I've seen. I can't give you any legitimate critiques, other than the fact you can kill the enemy that drops little bitty jumpers without actually going into the room with him. Might want to add a little extension on the body to block his flanks. Also, your scoreboard could be spruced up a little if there's thermometer space left (probably not since the paint gun is stopped up). Just put a one plane border around it with red VR or something. I can't believe I've been seelping on these for so long. I hearted you, and I'm going to TRY and beat all your ROBO levels. 6/5 stars, surprisingly awesome. P.S. there's some weird hitch when I start the level... the emitters are taking a minute to load in and sort itself out, and the paintinator won't fire for a few minutes. Might be something you can do to limit the amount of objects being emitted at one time. Could be some that don't need to emit until the player is near. Edit: Part 2... ICE-MAN stage... not quite as impressed with this, because I like red and black, but it's still perfectly constructed, the enemies are awesome again. The waterfall effect you created is astoundingly realistic, but in perfect accord with the flat and simple tones of the rest of the level. The collapsable pillars is a highlight for me, the elevator part was intense and extremely well done, and OMG, this boss is hardcore! The look of the play area is just ridiculously intricate. It's like angular celtic artwork. I haven't beaten him yet, but I will eventually. It's late and I gotta rest... Best paintinator levels out there. Anybody I know... PLAY THESE! | 2009-01-21 07:39:00 Author: Unknown User |

Dude! thanks so much, I have such a hard time getting people to play these levels. I'm not sure if it's me personally or what, but they hardly get plays, I was wondering if there was something wrong with them. On top of that, the people that do play them only complain about the difficulty. I'm really glad you took the time to play the whole thing (not to mention getting to the end of part 2. no one gets to see that boss), as you can imagine, it took a bit of time to get it all right. Let me know if there is a level in particular you want feedback on and I'd be more than happy to check it out. | 2009-01-21 21:25:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
Stop sleeping on this. I'm telling you guys, that if you have any skill whatsoever to play these levels and keep trying. They are phenomenal! Easily two of the best that have been posted on this forum. | 2009-01-23 01:10:00 Author: Unknown User |

And I must say, your levels are pretty B.A. yourself. | 2009-01-23 17:14:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
I have such a hard time getting people to play these levels. I was wondering if there was something wrong with them. On top of that, the people that do play them only complain about the difficulty. The only reason I see people having problems with the level is difficulty.... I noticed the first time I played your second one it was tagged with rubbish... which really makes me worry about the majority of people that play little big planet... I guarantee you they can probably run through a typical first person shooter that requires many buttons to play and would keep at it even if its a challenge, it could be the crappiest game in the world and they would love it.... Yet a level in little big planet that requires three buttons at most can make them run away with their tails between their legs. It really is sad in my opinion....especially with how well done these are... Anyways I'm done ranting here's my thoughts on your levels. PROS -The visuals are great. Just love the look of these levels. -All the custom enemies and how you set up the speech bubbles. -Difficult, can also be a con but not in my book, unless of course its not a well done challenge/obstacle which is certainly not the case here. -Bosses - Though I didnt see the ones in the second level yet I'm sure they are great like the firsts. CONS -I really had no problems with the first one... except for with the door that squished me and being able to kill the XyDropper without having to actually go down and fight him.. (you may have fixed these though havent played the first one in a bit, think I mentioned this in another post also) The second one -I don't know its probably just me but the layout of the level felt alot like the first one.... just the way it was set up from the vent talking right when you get in to the jump, sure you dont have to shoot the crab but it felt almost like the same jumps, the robots after that had shields..which the ones in the first one sort of worked the same way. mob after that even reminded me of the XyDropper but with glass thrown into the mix and having to kill him three times.... not really a con I guess since it doesnt mess with the gameplay.. just seemed like it was almost exactly the same from the beginning up until the elevator. (which is where I died, awesome job on that though loved it) I will play it again and bring some more feedback for the second one when I manage to beat it... I personally love these levels and take my friends into them any chance I get and recommend all to play them. It really is a shame we cant all share the same appreciation for a well done challenge like pretty much all the old mega man games... I mean my goodness I remember even on some of the harder mario levels sitting there for hours at a time trying to beat them... I dont know I guess the only thing most kids these days have patience for is to run and gun in some shooter. Which dont get me wrong, can be very enjoyable, but I think it's ruined their senses to what a real challenge is, and should be in a game. Anyways, I would give these levels as many hearts as I could... but you'll have to settle for one each and 5/5 stars. Great work... look forward to the rest of the series. | 2009-01-23 18:28:00 Author: Doctor Ramatool Posts: 189 |
Thanks, Doc.! I have to agree with you to a degree as far as the level layout in RRX2, I wasn't super-thrilled about it myself, but the boss (let alone the mid-boss and re-spawning enemies) took up over a quarter of the thermo so I couldn't take as much room as I wanted for the platforming sections. That was kind of the reason why I used the elevator in the second section. It was the most thermo effective way to add length to the level, and I felt that part was a "highlight" of the level, so to speak. | 2009-01-24 21:17:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
Hey I finally got around to play the first. I've been working on a new level myself so play time is rationed. This level is great. It looks great and it's nice to see a straight out shooter level. I like the enemies bios you threw in there, it's a nice touch. Mid Boss is one of the coolest bosses I've played yet. There are safe spots at the last boss which makes it easy to avoid all of his attacks on either of the far sides of the room however. Some of the ideas are very interesting as well , like the swinging section (which is a pro and a con of the level I found). Overall the biggest problem you'll likely have is the complaints about the difficulty. Myself, I only found a couple of problem section that require a little more than raw skill, the main being the swinging section. I found that being momentum swinging is more of a user created technique rather than something that MM made the engine suitable for, this spot requires a bit of luck on your run through it. Nothing major just a small note. + Looks great +Feels classic +Great challenge +Great enemies +Short and sweet, highly replayable +Solid platforming -Boo Hooers will cry about it's challenge -Swinging conveyer section is a bit iffy, though it's a great idea 5 stars, hearted it and you! | 2009-01-26 16:34:00 Author: OboroShogun Posts: 37 |

Hey, man, thanks! You're the first person to not complain about the mid-boss, I hope it wasn't too easy . But I'll be honest with you, I don't want to give it away but the hanging part can be done very easily with the following trick (hopefully I can explain this properly): Jump as far to the right as you can and grab the conveyor at the max height. At this point, if you just hold left and steadily tap R-1 you should just glide across, no momentum building needed. Maybe I should just put up a video. Anyway, I appreciate the feed back. I was playing one of your levels the other day, can't remember the name but I'm pretty sure I had to fix a truck. It was really good, I'll throw some feedback your way as soon as I finish, It got surprisingly tricky out of nowhere and I just wasn't prepared! Definitely cool though. | 2009-01-27 00:15:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
That was Terror's Manor! It's my favorite level I made so far, but some people find it difficult. Thanks for checking it out. Try to finish sometime. There's a few cool bosses. | 2009-01-27 02:15:00 Author: OboroShogun Posts: 37 |

Hey, good for you! Most folk can't make it past the mid-boss lol. Cool beans and thanks for checking it out! Yeah, as I said before - so far NOTHING has kicked my butt. This was the 2nd hardest game I've played in LBP, but I did find ways to "cheat" a little through each part. (although I don't think you should tweak these parts because if you couldn't cheat a little I think I would have had a heart attack). | 2009-01-29 16:05:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |

Some people have brought things like that to my attention before but I would NEVER try to make this level any more difficult, what kind of person would I be if I did? Some of them, actually, were done that way on purpose. I like to give the FEELING of "OMG this is impossible!" but in actuality it just LOOKS difficult. My advice for anyone who tries these levels is to TAKE YOUR TIME! Examine each situation before reacting and you just may find it to be way easier than it looks. Thanks again for trying them and I'm glad you havn't ripped all your hair out in the process! BTW, I think that was a cool compliment. 2nd hardest level? Then you should try my original, pre-paintinator series, those are even tougher. | 2009-01-29 16:17:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
Here Dimo, took some photos for ya, you can edit them into the first post too X http://s619.photobucket.com/albums/tt278/Maraz_Matari/?action=view¤t=IMG_1909.jpg http://s619.photobucket.com/albums/tt278/Maraz_Matari/?action=view¤t=IMG_1903.jpg http://s619.photobucket.com/albums/tt278/Maraz_Matari/?action=view¤t=IMG_1906.jpg http://s619.photobucket.com/albums/tt278/Maraz_Matari/?action=view¤t=IMG_1908.jpg http://s619.photobucket.com/albums/tt278/Maraz_Matari/?action=view¤t=IMG_1916.jpg X-2 http://s619.photobucket.com/albums/tt278/Maraz_Matari/?action=view¤t=IMG_1922.jpg http://s619.photobucket.com/albums/tt278/Maraz_Matari/?action=view¤t=IMG_1924.jpg http://s619.photobucket.com/albums/tt278/Maraz_Matari/?action=view¤t=IMG_1926.jpg Got tired of dying so I don't have anymore But these are really good levels. but be warned they're just as hard as they are good. Dimo has some real good create skills, and displays it well. He knows how to make something challenging and very pretty at the same time. He's good at creating some pretty varied bosses, and has a great sense of humor with the introduction of his enemies You'll learn to love/hate Dimo for killing you so many times as I have, but it's so worth the feeling of finally reaching the scoreboard!! Good job Dimo! | 2009-01-31 01:08:00 Author: Maraz_Matari Posts: 105 |

Yeah I'm still feeling my way around this new site. At first I thought it was pretty simple, yet everyday I seem to find some new section, or feature I didn't know was available before thanks for the offer peace. | 2009-02-06 03:48:00 Author: Maraz_Matari Posts: 105 |
Save the pictures and upload them to a photo album in your profile, Dimo. Or, if Maraz keeps them hosted, you can just copy the url and click the mountain looking thing above your posting area. Paste it there, hit enter, and then submit. You can also just do it yourself by typing [ I M G ] urlhere [ / I M G ] minus the spaces | 2009-02-06 05:14:00 Author: Unknown User |
I have to be honest with you. I first tried this level I couple of weeks ago and I could not clear it after 2 attempts. I came back a week later and still could not clear it. I came back a couple of days ago and finally did it! The key here is that I came back which I normally would never do after failing to pass a level numerous times. That in itself speaks volumes about how great your level is. Now for some more specific feedback. Immediatley I was grabbed by your visuals. Red and black never looked so good together and your geometry is flawless. I loved small details like the lines of glowing VR moving down the background and everything just worked brilliantly from an aesthetic perspective. All of your enemies were cool and your character bios were ingenious, I have never seen anything like that done before and they really made me smile. I liked the way you did your turrets with the shield and everything, very cool. I enjoyed the variety of platforming you had here from the piston operated platforms to the disappearing platforms you had later on in the level. But my favorite part by far was swinging across the moving conveyor belt while evading turret fire, pure style. It really tested my reflexes and I enjoyed every second of it. Arguably the best thing about the level is your bosses. You have four (OK two of them are variations of the same design but still) and all offer very cool attcak methods and movement patterns. It goes without saying that from a technical standpoint the last boss was the most impressive and I am curious as to how long it took you to create/tweak it. I really can't offer any suggestions because everything was super-polished and worked as it should. This level is definitely not for the faint of heart but if you like a good challenge then I can't think of a better level. This is one of the few levels where I actually felt a sense of achievement upon clearing it. Needless to say, 5 stars and hearted. If you get a chance please check out my new lvl 218 and let me know what you think. Thank you for creating such an amazing level. | 2009-02-06 13:44:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
The mid boss is near **** impossible. I've been trying for the last 15 minutes to beat it! Give us an extra checkpoint there and I'll be happy. | 2009-02-06 14:45:00 Author: Sparlin Posts: 7 |
The mid boss is near **** impossible. I've been trying for the last 15 minutes to beat it! Give us an extra checkpoint there and I'll be happy. Hey, really appreciate you giving the level a try, but it would be against my core beliefs to put another check point there. It can be done with eight lives. Heck, it can be done with one! But thank you for playing! | 2009-02-06 17:18:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |

Dimo, I wanted to make a quick suggestion that just suddenly occurred to me, I'd almost forgotten about this. I still havent gone and finished the second RoboRampage.... there's ALOT of levels I need to go and play, mainly those in the Spotlight..... mainly due to having been sucked into Everquest 2 for the past couple of nights, haha. But as for the first one, there was only one section that bugged me a bit. How to explain this..... There's one little section where there are about, I think, 4 seperate enemies (maybe 5). A couple of them are hanging turrets, and there's like a couple of little tank-y things. This did bug me a little bit for one simple reason: These are all plasma-shooting enemies, but they're on 2 seperate planes. The problem with this is that when you've got 2 planes, and alot of bullets on each plane, it can make it very hard to tell which plane each shot is on, due to the way the bullets look. So, a suggestion, is to make the bullets fired in the 2nd plane a different color than the ones in the foreground. That way it's easier to tell when you can and cannot avoid them in certain ways. I didnt have overmuch trouble following them myself.... cause I play all them shmups, lol, so Im used to following a zillion purple bullets in a horrible cloud of doom..... but it strikes me that other players might not do that so easily. Other than that one thing, this stage is still really great And congrats on the Spotlight; this one deserved it. | 2009-02-08 13:20:00 Author: Bridget Posts: 334 |

I'll see what I can do, but I get nervous going into either one of those levels and changing things around because the thermo is soooo full and the last time I changed something in a level (a magic mouth in X2) it screwed up the whole level and no one was able to load it. I'll see what I can do, though, it is a very good idea. | 2009-02-08 17:09:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |

I played the first level in the series tonight. I did not finish it though, I will need to practice some more lol. I thought I'd leave feedback anyways, I doubt i'll find much more negative points. First things first, as soon as I entered the level I noticed you had a great sense of scenery and style. I hope this does continue all through the series. I love the lasers in the walls and your use of stickers. The level is looking like YOUR level and not the levels i'm playing all the time. I really like the ennemies presentation and what the text bubbles says. Nice little humor touch upon ennemis that are original and well designed. I've been dying at the mid boss though. Lost all my lives, tried again and lost all my lives again. I will definetely try more later. It's a bit too hard for my likings so far. At least it's "good hard" and not "cheap hard". What happens is that LBP controls for the gun aren't optimal at all. When you need to aim in multiple directions precisely and fast it gets extremely hard because you're never sure to be shooting exactly where you think you do. . | 2009-02-17 04:35:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
yeah, I really hate "cheap hard" levels, but dimo's aren't. Dimo's levels are challenging, and really rewarding when you've finally cleared one! Sort of like mega man 9. | 2009-02-20 18:59:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |

Well, Megaman9 still is ridiculously hard. Too much is too much, I didn't want to pratice 40 hours a week so I simply didn't buy after I got bloody raped by the demo. . | 2009-02-20 19:08:00 Author: RangerZero Posts: 3901 |
I actually beat all the robots, and then I stopped. I was really proud of myself. I am a girl whose friends are all guys, and they were having a hard time, so I really thought I wouldn't be able to do it. I did it in two days though, and I was very happy! ^_^ Dimo's levels are easier than mega man 9. lol. | 2009-02-20 19:29:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
Dimo's levels are easier than mega man 9. lol. That's like comparing really difficult apples and challenging oranges. | 2009-02-22 17:22:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
I love these levels but can't beat them. I keep coming back to ROBO-RAMPAGE X. I must have played it 30 times and I can't beat the midboss (who I thought was the boss until I read this thread). As others have said, it is challenging, not cheap. It really reminds me of mega man. At any rate, the important thing is that I do keep coming back to it. Hopefully I'll beat it one of these days. I've gotten close (to the point where I'm damaging the eye). Thanks for making some incredible levels. | 2009-03-01 17:58:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |

Play these levels!!! | 2009-03-14 00:34:00 Author: Maraz_Matari Posts: 105 |
Play these levels!!! Agreed! Dimo has done a great job here, I love these levels since they are fun AND challenging, It did take me a few days to beat ROBO_X but, I honestly don't mind dying a few times if it's a REALLY good level, great work with the bosses, though they feel somewhat scripted, however, you changed this with ROBO_X2, which, by the way, was even higher quality, more difficult and more fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what other insanity you use the MGS materials for (thats a compliment) Don't bother with F4F. | 2009-03-14 01:23:00 Author: DRT99 Posts: 431 |
Thanks to everyone who has given these levels a shot! I know that they are tough, but those with the skills know what's up! RRX3 has been in "pre-production" stages for a while now, and I'm not even sure if I will finish it or not, but in the mean time, you can check out the original three ROBO-RAMPAGE levels. No paintinator, but PLENTY of challenge! | 2009-03-20 20:41:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
ROBO-RAMPAGE X and ROBO-RAMPAGE X 2 have both been updated via the Cornish yarg patch. The changes are mostly aesthetic (invisible pistons, etc.) and there are a few fixes for some pre-existing bugs, mainly the gate at the final boss of RRX. Enjoy! | 2009-04-16 18:47:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
RRx and RRX2 updated. Both levels had a lag issue at the start of the level. I addressed this issue in both levels by decreasing the amount of objects being emitted at once (many background elements as well as enemies/obstacles were being emitted.) In addition to that, I have added customized lighting to the final boss battles in each level, giving the final fight a more ominous feel. Enjoy! | 2009-04-26 15:06:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
Hello, all. In accordance with popular opinion I have nerfed the difficulty of the mid-boss in RRX. Also, hello to all my pals that I haven't spoken to in a while. I hope all is well! | 2009-09-09 01:36:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
Well, hey there stranger! Hmm.... I guess I'm not part of the popular group - I loved that boss - made my palms sweat something fierce, though. | 2009-09-09 03:52:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
Dimo! I'm so glad to see that you're playing LBP again! ^_^ I hope you kept the hard version! Otherwise Vmethos is gonna be upset! | 2009-09-09 04:04:00 Author: xkappax Posts: 2569 |
You call that making it easier!? I'd hate to have played the original. I got one or two good shots in before having to quit. I liked the visual style as well. Too bad I wasn't around when it first came out. And only 3 stars? What's with that? | 2009-09-09 04:12:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |

Too bad I wasn't around when it first came out. And only 3 stars? What's with that? Lol, yeah, it was really hard before. I hadn't touched the game in a while and when I replayed my own level I was like: "Man, I really AM an @$$." I could really see it being discouraging. It's good to know that it's still difficult, though! As far as the stars, I probably got two hateful ratings (due to the difficulty) for every positive one. Oh, well, it's what I expected from pushing people so hard. @Kappa: I'm happy if you're happy (which means something coming from me. I usually dislike most folk, but you, you're golden!) I'm glad you're doing well! @CCubbage: Hi there, It's good to see you're still around! Ahh, what am I saying, of course you're still around! Anything new for me to play? Sidenote: I will have news of my triumphant return shortly, beyond the mere tweaking of existing levels. I don't want to play it up too much, but a re-inventing of the whole ROBO-RAMPAGE series is on the horizon... | 2009-09-10 03:31:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
Welcome back! Nice to meet'cha. | 2009-09-10 03:44:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Neato, I'll give it another go when I get back from my business trip. RRX has the honor of being the level I've played more times than any other (and I still haven't gotten past the mid-boss)! | 2009-09-10 18:20:00 Author: dcf Posts: 468 |
@CCubbage: Hi there, It's good to see you're still around! Ahh, what am I saying, of course you're still around! Anything new for me to play? Actually, I had you in mind when I did "Vertigo!" and "Destiny!", which are more difficult action levels. If you ever get a chance, you should check them out. They both require a bit of practice, but I hear they're fun. | 2009-09-10 19:32:00 Author: CCubbage Posts: 4430 |
I had a lot of fun playing the first one - it took me one restart to finish. The first time I bit the big one on those raising/lowering platforms at the beginning. I thought the mini-boss was a good deal harder than the final boss! Glad you kept this one challenging. | 2009-09-11 15:52:00 Author: phife211 Posts: 62 |

Now try your luck on the second one! @phife211, dcf, comphermc: I'll get back to you guys with F4F by the end of the weekend. If it takes me a little while, don't worry. Classes just started last wed. so I've been a little swamped, but I'll DEFINITELY get some feedback to you. @CCubbage: I'll be sure to check those out! Assuming my internet holds up! We got a new router and I need to open up some ports in it so the PS runs better, I'm just too lazy right now to call the router company, ha! @Kappa: Make a new level, danmit! (yeah, censor bypass!) | 2009-09-11 19:02:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
Ok, I've been away a while, and a brilliant idea has come to me. Now, this bump isn't anything to do with the current levels, but it is relevant. As of right now, I am going to recruit a small number of people to collaborate with me on the final installment of my Robo-Rampage X series. Anyone that wants to be a part of this project, link me to any levels you've done so I can get an idea of your technical expertice and how well your aesthetc style matches the series. Also, make sure you give the RRX levels, at least, a quick run-through, just to make sure that you want to work on a project of this type. TBH, I already have an idea of a few people that I would LOVE to have involved in this (NinjaMicWZ, CCubage, and Foofles, I'm looking at you guys!) but I'm open to at least considering anyone that's interested. Tweet me back, homies! | 2010-06-26 17:46:00 Author: Dimo1138 Posts: 179 |
