Underwater Track/Arena

Archive: 9 posts

An underwater track/arena would be EPIC. But I guess you can't actually make an underwater track or you'll just drown.. BUT, what if you make a huge tunnel track and make the walls and stuff blue glass or something that looks like water and it would look like you're underwater. I couldn't be bothered to try because I heard making tunnels is a pain in ya face so it's probably IMPOSSIBRU!!! (http://www.funnydictionary.com/img/entry_images/900/vr7KUExgR8r.jpg)

I might try it another day...

You might be able to just use a big sheet of glass to make the surface of the water overhead, have some fish on pathfinder motors, some emitters that make bubbles going up, and submarines for karts haha! Plus you can adjust the fog and sky settings to look like you're under water. Try it man !2013-01-04 16:10:00

I actually started making an underwater arena not too long ago, and o0O_ENDER_O0o has the right idea. Using fog and sky settings to give you a blueish look makes your surroundings appear as if they are submerged in water. Add some emitters with bubbles and a sandy texture to your terrain, and you have a nice underwater arena! It's very possible.2013-01-04 19:48:00

This level has an ingenious approach to making an underwater racetrack. It's called Below the Surface and it's made by RADMANROB:

RADMANROB's level takes place both above and below the water. He uses a giant sheet of hologram material colored aqua as the water surface. Since the hologram material is visible in-game, but non-collidable, it works out very well for a water surface you can go above and below.

Add some emitters with bubbles.

where are the bubbles? i've been trying to make a bubble gun since i got the game!

Eh... there are no bubble actually, but you can make the tear drop shoot up from the effects emitter and it looks fairly convincing. I thought I saw bubbles but it was in the trail effects for the weaponators >_< . You could go as far as making bubbles out of hologram material, put a physics tweaker on it to 0 grav, and emit those... might be better looking than the tears. Tears are easiest though.

I actually have one almost finished. With proper lighting/color and audio it's fairly easy. Everything else is simple logic and aesthetics. RadMan seemed to have used something pretty interesting too.2013-01-09 21:16:00

I'm working on an Atlantis hotel/aquarium in Dubai track and for the aquarium bubbles i used pinballs placed randomly in a helix like pattern, grouped them and hooked a piston up to the group to push them up with a flipper resetting them. the Extend motion on accelerate sells the effect of them rising to the surface. Then hooked a piston horizontally up to the other one to make it shimmy back and forth as it's rising. Set both pistons to scenery so the pinballs have not hitboxes and you could drive through them.

I could put this in a prize bubble for you anarch if you wanted, it's a fairly convincing effect. For scuba divers i used prize bubbles coming out of an emitter with a .1 second lifetime and dissolve. Looks really cool but I'm sure hogs up a fair amount of resources for lag so they'd have to be on player sensors so the effect isn't running when people aren't near.

If you want hit me up online,

p.s. looking forward to your underwater level
