I have finally managed to finish my first level :hero:! I've worked on it since the beginning of December and I'm pretty proud of it, I've worked a lot on the details and over all i think that I've spent about 70+ hours on it. At the moment it hasn't received that good critics, hopefully this is because its to hard or something like that, so i hope that i will get some experienced players play it so that i can receive some serious critic and hopefully some more hearts!

Ok, even though i hate to write a story i actually managed to create one which i hope is pretty good, the level is about you, the player who is about to get mad. When the level starts you meet *insert weird demonic name which i don't remember here* who is the demon of madness and has been sent to.. well "help" you on the way to madness and it's your task to try to escape him as long as possible.
I've (like i said before) spent a lot of time on the visual aspects of the level, especially the lighting so hopefully it's going to be an impressive experience if (when :arg you play the level. I've also tried to create some different platforming elements and overall the level is pretty challenging but not to hard and with a medium length (about ten minutes i think, if you don't need to restart ).
The level also includes a lot of races and hidden points to keep the replay value up!

(sorry for the bad quality, the level looks much better ingame)


The ending is made in the scribble/anti color effect which i actually managed to figure out myself(was going to post it on the forums but when i was writing i found out that XkapaX already had posted it ).

I will try to give as much and as good f4f as i can to the first 5 (i may change it to more if i have time :blush persons who give me feedback.

Edit: Ok be prepared for a challenge if you decide to play the level. I just looked at the scoreboard and theres only three out of 33 persons who has managed to complete the whole level, I will try to make it easier as soon as i can
EDIT 2: updated the level so that the section that was ridiculously hard is now easier (but still challenging, and also did some other minor changes.

Pros
+ Great atmosphere
+ Great theme

Cons
- Frustrating
- Platforms arent synced well enough
- Atmosphere is too good.. cant see anything
- It took me like 10 tries to get past the part with the rotating square blocks

You could easily make this a better level by doing things like
- Make the timing for the square blocks slightly different to make it easier
- Little bit brighter throughout the level
- Get rid of cardboard that has nothing behind it..
- The part where the heads are shooting stuff is annoying since all of them shoot at the same time and controlling sackboy on ice is difficult
- Do something about the part with the springy triangles.. its impossible!
- I could not get past the triangles...

if possible give me some pointers on my level "Traitor" just search "Traitor Shahchip"

I have some quickquestions about your suggestions;


Platforms arent synced well enough

You are referring to the spinning squares here, right? the last ones are supposed to be out of sync, i thought that they were to easy otherwise, but probably I'm wrong.


Atmosphere is too good.. cant see anything

THis is pretty weird, i usually have no problem with seeing. Are you playing on a SD Tv or a HD, cuz i have a hd, maybe thats the problem there. Or maybe its just because i always use my "glow in the sack" Death costume.


Get rid of cardboard that has nothing behind it..

Are they very annoying? because i think they are a necessary part of the look on that part of the level, and they are also used for some hidden points. (and here you are also referring to the spinning squares, right?)

You know that you can grab hanging sponges on every second platform, and there's also a thin layer of stone covering most of the glass, so i don't really think there's a problem there.
EDIT: did the paintballs color your sackboy or not? theres some sort of bug which makes that stop work sometimes.

HeHe apparently I've made some parts of the level way to hard :arg:, i guess it's all the testing that has made it so easy for me to manage. (or I'm 1337)
But you did come to the third platform didn't you, oris the whole section to hard not just the last jump.

And again many thanks for the feedback, I'm looking forward to playing your levels, sadly it will take a while until i get time to get access to my playstation, long school day and training afterwards.

The square platforms were hard for me.. all of them haha

I play in HD so i'd say that its the glow costume

Not too annoying but i died a couple of times because of the cardboard

Yup grabbing the sponges is like the only way to go up.. but it might be better if 2 of them next to each other had different timings

All of them are hard since they move so much

The scythe is pretty easy, i just took the roman sword, painted it black and put a lion claw(or something like that) on the top of it.
Heres a link to the glow in the sack thread which explains the glitch which allows you to get a brighter skeleton costume:

And the rest of the costume is made out of a hood and a dress painted black.
Hope you enjoy the level, but be prepared, apparently its very hard =)

I have made a few changes according to the feedback i got from Shachip and released version 1,1!!!
The level is now brighter in some places, the wobbly triangles are closer to each other and the squares are slower and synced so that it will be easier to traverse them.
Sadly the thermometer kept me from doing any bigger experiments and changes to the heads so they will be the same, just a little slower.
I also fixed so that the paintballs actually color the sackboy now.

Ok so i tried it

Much much better

i still cant get past the triangles but its not the levels fault.. haha How about adding something to swing on at that part.. so people like me don't quit

Sorry for the delay on the feedback though, i have been very busy this week and i didn't have time for testing the level before yesterday :blush:. And when i was almost done with the feedback someone turned the computer of when i wasn't there .
A tips for the triangles is that they move back and forwards horizontally at the same time as they wobble, you only need to balance them a little through jumping and then jump over to the next one when yours is as far right as it can.
PS: try lowering the minimum length of a piston to 0 and see what happens, just a tips for the ninja at the beginning

i loved the map, got 3rd place lol. Only things i would say are that although the idea for the first race was fantastic i found that the mouths spat the yellow paintball things for too long and so i didnt complete it in time and they also did not colour my sackboy. Also in some areas it is just too dark to see some of the edges (i think it is where you are jumping up to get into the circle that rolls into the anti-colour area. I also have a HD TV) Overall though i really liked it and its just some small things that need fixing to make this map great. lol i also managed to do both the triangle and square platforms first time haha2009-02-03 19:31:00

The dark area before the "vehicle" was intended to be like that, you just have to fumble a little in the dark. I wanted to get the level done and i guess that it was a pretty cheap solution to have a platform section which only is challenging because it's dark. :blush:
The problem with the paintball section is that if i make the duration shorter then the time you have to get to the next section will be shorter and therefor impossible X( i could make some sort of complicated switch to control that but i don't have enough thermo space to place another light i can't even make it so that theres one safe place on each platform.

haha no problem, hey if you built it like this then its no problem. I wasn't sure if you wanted it dark or wanted the paintballs to be that long but it does make it more difficult lol. If you ever have any other levels i'd be happy to try them out 2009-02-03 21:23:00
