Phactory of Potions (Platformer)

Archive: 16 posts

Hey =]

-I have listened to reviews and my level has been changed about 75%! If you played it more than 2 days ago's you played the old boring -walk along- one! Since then I've actually put obstacles and highly considered player engagement (sorry to sound like a nerd lol). So check out the new one (if you don't remember using tethered jetpacks, you played the old one!)

I really look forward to seeing what you guys and all LBP players think of it and I strongly appreciate constructive criticism, and will F2F happily.

-Phactory of Potions (Platformer) -
Players: One Player!
Difficulty: Moderate (Might be hard for the platformally-challenged lol)
Playtime: 8-10 minutes
This level is a platforming level.

Thanks heaps for playing my level. I republished it as a whole new level for people who may have had it queued. I am experimenting with how to get level plays LOL

While it doesn't necessarily stand out, it definitely holds its own. Very nice visuals and plenty of hidden surprises!2012-12-31 18:11:00

This was quite a nice looking level. The visuals were clean and had nice detail.

The gameplay was solid, albiet not memorable. I can't think of any sequence that stood out, but overall it was simple and enjoyable to play.

I did find the potions portion of the level lacking. For an aspect that the level was named for, it seemed almost like an afterthought. It worked but felt like it was added to already existing platforming. Again, it was still fun to play though.

In short, I thought this looked great and had decent gameplay. Everything worked well.

I found this very pleasant with plenty to explore. It's clear you put a lot of time into the visuals and platforming here, trying to make it all idiot proof as possible. If I was to nit pick, I only have a couple of critisms. The music you selected I find a little too repetitve - Id urge you to maybe change it early on or try running through it to some different selections to see how they sound, but thats just a personal preference. The other thing is the cut scenes. I see why kids might need the bots throwing potions on layers explained, but the other bits (just where you flick switches) are better left without them. My friends always moan at me (or the level) when I take them into levels that do that. It takes away any satisfaction for working out something for yourself as well as slamming the brakes on the overall pace. These are just minor gripes, and it is understandable if this level is aimed at very young kids learning the basics. Still, this is an excellent level with awesome attention to detail otherwise and worth a spot in everyones que.
I'd appreciate if you f4f my level here please:

Hey all, thanks for your replies.
To those who have left F4F requests, or have replied in this thread: I will play your level ASAP, probably withing 24 hours lol.
Anyways thanks to people who left me constructive criticism, from what I read you guys think the visuals are nice, but the game play/platforming is lacking - and I do agree a lot of the parts as of v1.00 are just walking through the place and maybe pulling a switch or jumping over one thing. The enemies were probably the only good game play element.
But thanks (!) to your advice I'm editing this level at the moment, leaving in the good bits and replacing the bland platforming parts with more action-active areas!

Thanks for the plays/likes/comments!~ I'll let you guys know when I republish with the updates!

I personally don't like these kind of levels. Tha Davinci style is getting so overused, but that is not your fault anyway. Some visiual effects were cool, some I've never seen before, but it felt like you didn't have so much time to decorate. I would love some F4F: http://lbp.me/v/cf3qg-2013-01-07 18:06:00

I've already reviewed your level from a while back. It's not exactly the Da Vinci theme at all, just a couple of the same materials and the use of other objects/materials bring it outside Da Vinci and even more so in my new update (which I just released and has more actual platforming as people suggested!). Also the thermometer is about to explode so I can't decorate any more than I already have.

- v1.03 (yeah I name them LOL) has just been published! I listened to your reviews and made suiting changes!

This level was very nicely put together. I liked the design of the potion throwing sacbots and the factory environment. I wouldn't say it was a "Da Vinci Style" level it looks pretty different :/ The one thing i would have done differently is the placement of the bubbles especially the prize bubbles. A few of the prize bubbles were directly in the path and the player had no choice but to collect them. I always like to place them so that the player has to try to get to it other than being forced to take it. Thats just a preference thing for me tho maybe not other players. My popit menu is so full sometimes I don't want to collect community prizes. I thought it was a fun level to play thru good stuff thanks for sharing it <32013-01-10 07:23:00
