Sound in levels

from my time being bored in my tech classes, I've played quite a few flash games. I always find it strange how for me theres really no formula for how I like music and sound effects. Sometimes, I like the music and not the sound effects. sometimes, i like the sound effects and not the music. So, the other day I thought of how that relates in littlebigplanet and how a level's audio can be good or annoying with either not having sound effects and having music, or not having music(gasp!) and only having sound effects. So, my question is how do you like your levels? With both or with one?2012-12-30 03:26:00

As long as neither distracts from the level itself I'm good with it. I suppose I'd prefer the music doesn't drown out the sound effects.2013-01-02 04:44:00

I prefer a mix of music and appropriate sound effects. Both of these elements should enhance the overall mood of the level. 2013-01-02 15:27:00

Unless a level works best without audio, one must do all they can, working on both music and sound effects until it's "good and not annoying". Unless the level involves bagpipes.2013-01-02 15:59:00

What he said! I think it important for both to set the tone and the mood to the experience. To me it is about immersion into this new wacky world you have created, whether it is a bright sunny day with birds chirping or a menacing underground danger.
