LBPK Train Simulator- This train has come to a halt.

Archive: 23 posts

This is my first big project on LBPK, and so far it is the first of its kind by what I've seen. It is going to be an EXTREMELY realistic showcase of the possibilities LBPK has when it comes to locomotive building. Although it will only have one train; consisting of a locomotive, tender, passenger coach, and perhaps a caboose, it should still be a sight to behold. the track itself is still being decided upon, but it's likely it will only be an oval loop or a figure-eight track.
The Locomotive
For all you out there who are familiar with my trains- yes, this is my General from LBP2

This thread will be constantly updated with the progress of this project. Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

OK- here's the next update. I haven't been on much lately, so, sadly, the only thing I have gotten closer to finishing is the engine. I'm welcoming any ideas about location, plot, track design, or even what cars I should add! So, without further ado, the picture!

This looks fantastic so far! If the engine looks this detailed for a WIP, I can't wait to see it in its completed state, along with the other cars. Keep us updated!2013-01-01 16:52:00

Thanks for such a nice complement! I certainly will be keeping you all updated- but this week may be a bit slower since one, I just got a Vita, and two, my brother will probably want to use the PS3 too, as he's only here every other week. I'll try my best to give you reasonable time between each update, but I can't promise anything this week. Until the next update, See You Then!2013-01-01 17:01:00

Gran Trainturismo - The Real Train Simulator .

On a serious note, good luck with this project and I really like the train. I would do something like this but I can't seem to get a hold of the new 3D create mode but I will make something like this one day.

Okay, so I just finished the locomotive, and I must say, its been a pain in the neck to build. However, now that I have more experience building in LBPK, I should be able to finish this project much quicker. I should have posted this update much earlier, as I'm already working on gameplay and a custom HUD. Although the train is still unfinished (and doesn't even move yet- but it is animated), this project is progressing nicely and I plan on it being finished within the next relative month or so. Now, as always, the pictures!

I decided for a horizontal shot for this one.

A dramatic shot!

Also, on a side note, the colors are much more vibrant in-game. It seems though as if the camera "dulls" the pictures for some reason.

BREAKING NEWS !
Okay, so I just completed the next car on this train, and I absolutely love how it turned out. Unfortunately, due to certain "limitations", I am unable to put the road name (name of the railroad) on the side of the tender, so it is going to remain blank- perhaps I'll add yellow trim though. Anyhoo, here are the pictures of the locomotive cab + the brand spankin' new tender.

A shot of the engine's interior.

Now for the tender pictures.

Here's a nice shot of the detail I put on the trucks.

Also, you should probably see a black and grey truck sitting behind the tender in certain pictures. I'll leave it to you guys to guess what it's going to be.

EDIT: Okay- forget not being able to put the road name, because I just did it!

P.S.- the yellow trim will be brighter in the final result.

How will it work? Will the train be just an asset for the track or you'll somehow control it? I don't know much about how versatile LBPK's engine is, so yeah.2013-01-09 13:59:00

Well, first of all, it is a train SIMULATOR, so it is going to be a driveable train. I already have the system figured out, as I was working on a similar project in the beta. Unfortunately, I won't be able to post any updates for about two weeks (due to my personal life) , so don't be expecting anything until then. So, until next time!

I'm really liking how this train simulator is coming out. Just goes to show how great LBPK is .

I really appreciate how much you all respond to this, and this project will be continuing, except there's been a change of plans, and I unfortunately won't be able to continue this project until after the 28th of this month. I'll post the next update probably on either the 30th or the 31st, so until then, sayonara!2013-01-14 21:59:00

Oh no not at all! haha I'll still be continuing on this project in the very near future, but I just have made a choice to not use the PS3 until the end of this month. I guarantee this level will be finished, but I honestly needed a break lol. Unfortunately, I finished the third carriage, but for some reason the pictures didn't upload to LBP.me, and when I tried using them in-game, they were just black screens. So, blame LBPK for hindering what would have been the next update. ^_^2013-01-19 20:11:00

Okay! SO I'm back on this project, and I've been doing a lot- even though I've only had a few hours today to work on it. I've completed the track, and I'm working out the kinks of the train's movement. Unfortunately, the player cannot stay in the cab of the locomotive no matter what I do, so, I'm thinking of having the player control the train from a remote location. I'll add pictures later today, because as of the moment I'm typing this I'm playing LBP2 with friends. I've finished the last car, and other than those two problems, its going smoothly! However, I fear that I'll be unable to solve the problem with the train movement (smaller follower motors falling behind larger follower motors), and I'll be forced to make it into a race track. either way, I'll be glad the train won't go to waste! Until I post the pictures, see you! :32013-01-29 00:23:00

Well, when the train reaches full speed, the player cannot keep up with the train, so they fall out. Then I put force field just big enough for the kart, but then the game glitches out when you spawn. I'm probably just going to have the player remotely control it though.

UPDATE EDIT: Okay, as promised, here are the new pictures! I'm not that pleased with this car, but this material was the only one that matched the colors perfectly.

The new Passenger Car! Shiny!
