Free reviews with excellent Aim: FreeAim's honest reviews!

Archive: 12 posts

Hello, sack-friends! I, FreeAim, am going to help all the creators out there from amateurs to experts. Do you not know how to improve your level? Are you tired of reading comments on your levels that go something like this: "It's okay, but it needs improving?"

I am here to help you with that! I have decided to, instead of making levels of my own at the moment due to lack of inspiration, help others with their levels! Do you need help? Then simply link your level's LBPMe page and I queue it for playing! However, if your level is either a brain-teaser, music-based, rip-off from another game or 'an improved version of a level I have already rated,' don't expect for me to review it, unless you have fixed the problems I have mentioned. Also note that I won't be rating more than one level from the same creator once a week so everyone can get their levels reviewed.

Due to the fact that I dislike the 1-10 rating system, I have made my own, which is the following:

Perfexcellent: The highest possible rating I can give to a level. Only few levels can get this from me. Don't except to get it easily.

Worth a heart: A mostly positive rating. The level either lacks something that would've made it better, or just doesn't have that something I want from a level.

Worth playing: A positive rating. The level has a lot of things to improve, but it' good and should be given a play.

Needs improving: A negative rating. The level has a long way to go and I can't suggest others to play it, but neither can I suggest people not to play it.

Won't remember it in T-minus 1 day: A mostly negative rating. While the level is not as bad as an insult, it has a lot of things to improve, if not everything in general. I can only suggest that people don't play this level.

Game Over: The absolutely worst possible rating. I can only suggest people to avoid it at any cost possible, as it's nothing but a waste of time. I would delete it, if I was the author.

Now, don't take my reviews personally. There are also special-mentions, badges, if you will, that I can give to a level. They are the following:

Van Gogh: The level is artistic and looks absolutely brilliant or perfectly unique.

Hardcore: Possibly the hardest badge for me to put in words. The level is completely honest with itself and its purposes and doesn't try to hide it in any way.

Personal Admiration: I admire something special in the level. It's something that the masses lack. For example, Pickled-Punk's levels often have this something.

Okay? Okay! At the end of every month I will list the best levels of the month in my opinion to a top-ten order. You can suggest me to play any PS3-LBP game, as I have them all, but no vita-levels or psp-levels.

Don't be shy. My levels are completely FREE and come with perfect AIM!

PS: Do not review my reviews or other people's levels. It's why I made this myself: because I like it.

Alright, these reviews come in a bit late, due to constant problems of getting to a decent computer. Anyhow, let's get done with the reviews, shall we?

IcyFlamez_'s level "The Only Way is Down"

I do love the design of this level personally. It has that murky, swampy feel while still being set in a somewhat futuristic environment. Going down to escape death is something I don't see done often, except in those kind of levels where you have to sort of "dig your way down." The possibly best thing in this level is how the gameplay is done. When you have to escape a rumbling rock falling down on you by going up a little bit creates surprisingly much tension, but it's not overdone here. Talking about tension, were my hands sweaty the whole time I played this? Yep! It's fast level and you can't stop to breathe for one second. It is just long enough to keep the excitement on the whole time, even if you have to replay it once or twice.

Are were there some things that I felt were out of place or just bad? Yes, sadly. Some parts in the level need more details, for it looks just dull at times, but it never really looks bad. Also the puzzles were stupid here in my opinion. In a fast level mostly based around running away they slow things unnecessarily for a short time and it really can effect the feeling the level gives. Therefore I can't call it awesome. Also, it didn't really have much fire in it. Not actual fire, but the theoretical fire which keeps the level exciting time after time after time. It could do with more explosions.

Aaaand for nitpicks, the play-camera was a little messy at times and the logo of the level is a little plain. Also, the rock coming from the sky is threatening but it doesn't really look good either. That's really everything. There isn't that much in this level.

In conclusion, I'd say that this level is worth playing. It needs more work to be outstanding, but nothing I couldn't do myself, which is not much. It does what it does well, but was it to do it very well, I could call this level worth a heart.

Flyinhawaiian's Secret Agent Pingu VR Training [1 Player]

Let's get right to it then. There are plenty of levels out there concentrating around controlling a sackbot with a few special powers, but they often end up being either lazy or plain bad. Is this different?

The controls of "Pingu" are good, though the wall-climbing is an unnecessary add in my opinion. The controls are smooth and easy to learn and just different enough to be worth of their own level(s). Pingu looks good as well. It's a penguin wearing a suit, so of course it does! As for the rest of the level... Meh.

The problems with "training levels" often is the fact that they are short, boring and look plain and bad. As much as I'd want to say otherwise, I can't deny that most of these things are not good. It's a fact. It's not too short of a level, but it is not long enough to stand on its own either. The suit, controls and special-abilities of Pingu are pretty much everything this level is worth playing for. Right after the first few obstacles you've pretty much seen what you're in for, only difference being the fact that you don't get to use any of the special powers again in the level. What is the rest of the level made of?

Attract-O-gel-wall-climbing. While attract-O-gel is my favourite gadget, this level doesn't make any clever use of it. It's there for the sake of being there. And it's not good. At all. The attract-O-gel moment is too long to be interesting and it doesn't add anything to the level. If I could give a bonus-point for this level, it'd be the cliffhanger. If done well, it could make for an interesting second part for this adventure. That being said, it only further proves that this level can't stand on its own.

I don't want to dislike this level, but I have to say that it's just not good. It's okay, but you won't remember it in T-minus 2 days. An interesting sequel can save this, but as it is now, it's not even decent.

I like the review! Thanks

Well the level icon complaint was unexpected honestly just because I like the simplistic art of it. The purple with the black, spikey border and the arrow pointing down. I was going to start using that kind of icon for all of my future levels lol. Well I still am, I like them at least. Like my avatar here for example.

Yeah I usually don't get that lazy on the decorating though, I made that level really quickly believe it or not. : P

I have an Atlantis level full of great areas to take pictures. It is a platformer and can be challenging in some parts if you are new to platforming.
Please take and upload pics if like.

Thanks, it seems quite popular and I think a little review would just help push it that bit further! Thanks.
