Pix's Rise (http://vita.lbp.me/v/-w078)

So, here is the first level of my platformers serie ! Its strengths are mainly the gameplay ( gravity switch, wall jump, color switch, teleporters...) and the graphics ( I had all created by myself ). That's the first version, so let's give me your opinion about my level, so I can improve it. If you have had problems in some area, just told me !
So, here are some pictures :

I also published the introduction : here is the link

This introduction looks like a comic ! You can control the angle of the camera with the right stick !

Playing it right now. very nice level. however, I do suggest maybe you make a wall that cannot be jumped using wall jump, since some of the puzzles and platforms can be dodged just by wall jumping up to the top area of levels.2012-12-27 17:11:00

Thanks for being so fast and for your comment !
I have several ideas for the next levels, and the wall which can't be wall-jumped is one of them. I have already done it, but I will use it in the next level. (And sorry if I don't speak a perfect english, I'm french)

Hey there, LukeCF here.

Just finished playing your levels, the comic intro, and the actual level itself. And I have a few suggestions / ideas.
First, for thee comic intro:

Have you played gravity rush? It too has comic strips for it's cut scenes. Rotating them though isn't done with the analogue sticks but with the system's gyroscope sensing (since English isn't your native language, and I don't know how well you know it, by gyroscope sensing I mean the TILT function of the vita). This might be a neat feature to use in your comic strip intro.

Another sggestion: the "next" button in the corner... perhaps instead of having a next button, you could just have so it you touch anywhere on the screen it goes to the next scene. It could be done with just having a thin layer of invisible material with a touch sense could effectively act as a full screen button.

The actual game (gameplay):
The wall jumping seems really... Stilted? I don't know I just had trouble using it effectively, to the point where it frustrated me. Everything else seemed to work great. I loved the gravity shifts. They work perfectly. It's awesome.

On a side note though, when you hit the end point of each little section, there seems to be a brief amount of time before you disappear and move on for the next section, is there anyway you could make this instant? It would make things seem smoother I feel like.

A comment on your TEXT sections: if you need help with the english, I can help. I noticed a few "off" things while playing, and can offer some suggestions as to how things should be worded. If you want that is.

I actually liked it alot.... i want to see more levels like this in general.... oldschool + retro platforming action.

The Intro is well made and was fun to watch... Your first Level had some neat ideas, well implented... the gravity part is great and works fine... the gameplay had its ups and downs.. but overall its fun.... that u have infinite wall jumps kinda is more of a bug, which could be solved... i implented that once in one of my own levels... the movement of pix could be slightly better.... but i know that myself too haha ^^

I think this one deserves more plays... but if u continue it, it will probably get the plays it deserves.... i hope for some really awesome bossfight at the end..

Hi there !

So yeah, I have already played Gravity Rush and I see what you're telling to me... I try to add this feature but that's actually a little bit more complicated than I thought. I'm always working on !

Another sggestion: the "next" button in the corner... perhaps instead of having a next button, you could just have so it you touch anywhere on the screen it goes to the next scene. It could be done with just having a thin layer of invisible material with a touch sense could effectively act as a full screen button.

Why not... Maybe I'll do that for my next cinematic. That's pretty simple to do, as you said !

The actual game (gameplay):

I don't wanna create a very realistic game as you can see ! Recently I improved the Pix's moves, the wall-jumps are more playable. I get inspired by the game "Super Meat Boy". I will soon publish a demo of the future functionalities I will add in the next levels... so all of you can comment !

On a side note though, when you hit the end point of each little section, there seems to be a brief amount of time before you disappear and move on for the next section, is there anyway you could make this instant? It would make things seem smoother I feel like.

Sorry, I don't understand very well... Do you want me to make this instant longer or shorter ?

So, thank you for all your advices, I will come back to publish the gameplay's demo !

Mapping the camera to the vita's tilt really isn't needed, I just thought it'd ebe neat. If you find it too difficult, I'd say don't worry about it.

I'm glad to hear that Pix's wall jumps have Improved! I'll have to replay the level and see how it feels now, see if it feels better.

And I feel like it should be shorter. When you hit the end of the section you're just kinda standing there for a second before the camera moves, it's kinda awkward, I feel like as soon as you hit the end of the section the camera should instantly move to the next section.

Over all though, I'm really excited to see where this goes! (I'm a huge fan of super meat boy )

Hello there !
I just published the Pix's Rise Demo I talked you ! So... I know there is some (lots of) bugs, but I've got ideas to fix them ! Don't loose your time reporting them to me, I already know them I just wanna get some feedbacks about the gameplay : the Pix's colors, the new Pix's physics (you have to hold R while jumping to do higher jumps or to run !), the difficulty, the "Chrono-Blocks", etc...

Then, I will begin to do the true levels !

So, here's the link :

I played this this morning (you played my F4F Alien Trials level) and here are my thoughts.

I enjoyed the challenge of the levels. They do feel a lot like super meat boy which I like a lot. The art style suits what your trying to do in the level. The respawn rate is fast enough that if you die it's not a huge deal. Pressing R to get longer jumps feels great.

Here are some things that I ran into.

1. Wall jumping seems inconsistent. I could not reliably jump from wall to wall. The way I got up most walls was to stick to one wall instead of jumping from one to the other. If I tried to jump left to right I always fell down.

2. Transitions from one section to another are jarring. Could you fade in and out with the camera or do a hard cut instead of the panning that happens now?

3. The section with the moving platforms is frustrating because you slide around on the platform. I don't know if it was intentional but it seemed like it was not.

Thank for your feedback DigitalBytes !

I recently improved the wall jumps in the new demo (level link in my signature). If you think the workability isn't perfect in this version, just say it ! I've some other ideas to improve it again...

3. The section with the moving platforms is frustrating because you slide around on the platform. I don't know if it was intentional but it seemed like it was not.
No, he wasn't supposed to slide like that. I have already fixed this problem a little bit (at the beginning, Pix just didn't move with the moving platform and fell always ^^). So, I think I can easily remove the problem you had !

Great level! Little Big Planet's answer to Super Meat Boy. Did have a small bug were I got stuck on the corner of a moving platform in stage 8 and had to leave to game but in it was probably just a one off event. In general though really good level. 2013-01-07 19:41:00

Hi guys !
A little post to say you that my cinematic level "Pix's Rise Prelude" (level link in my signature below) has a new feature : now you can control the angle of the camera by tilting your PSVita system !
Remember to play my new "Pix's Rise" demo (with lots more of gameplay's ideas ! ) and giving your feedback !
