Rollercoaster Idea- but unkown how to make it happen.

Archive: 4 posts

I want to make a 3D rollercoaster (a 1st for the LBP series that I'm aware of) that follows a smooth track, and all the cars maintain there position. It is going ot be based on my Mighty Eagle Railroad, and I'm sure I can figure out the track and other create and logic stuff, but my question is how do I get the train to stay together, because with path followers it's bound to get off a tad every so often, and two, how can i have multiple kart cockpits on an object- allowing multiple players to ride in one car? I have the train and cars set up, with the cockpits on them, but I am unaware of how to go any further with it. Any Ideas? thanks!2012-12-27 00:48:00

You can't remove players from karts. So the only way to get players in the trains is to design the trains with room for a kart to fit.

Design a roller coaster train with 8 cars, with space for each kart. Attach these cars to a path follower motor each, make each motor the exact same. Then attach whatever trigger you plan to use to start it to the first, then use the output on the 1st motor to the input of the second motor, and so on down the line. This should make sure that the rest of the motors ONLY move when the first one does.

Now, you need to put the spawn points in each of the trains. 1 or 2 per car depending on the style you're going for. Make your own kart to use a transformer on, or just let people use their own karts. Seal the player in with a force field over the car, and disable all controls using the kart race or battle brain. Set a game camera so people can see better, and that should work. Put a game ender at the end of the track to end the level. So long as the roller coaster doesn't move too fast, the players should stay in the roller coaster.

I think that would work. Have fun~

Thanks! This is going to help SOO much- I've been wanting to do this for a while now! I never thought of using the train itself as a sort of transporter- that's brilliant! OH and while I'm at it- check Mighty Eagle Railroad on LBP2- do you think its feasible to do it on LBPK? Oh and also, is there a way to bank path follower turns? I really want banked turns and helixes, but have no idea as to how to do it- I have tried many times. Thanks!

EDIT Also, is there any way to speed up or slow down a path follower? I want different speeds on hills- is there maybe a sort of "gravity" setting? Thanks AGAIN!

As long as you banked everything the same way, sensors attached to hinges (one for each direction) that you attach to your follow motors for each car should be able to tilt the cars.

As for speed. I actually am not sure about that one. I think if you use a Sequencer, then have batteries of different powers feeding in to the original follow motor it 'might' make it go different speeds. But I can't remember off hand how to regulate the speed of a motor without using more then one.
