I have been thinking lately of a Role Playing Game for the forums- however, not an RPG, but a role playing game, in which we each take the part of a character, and write that character's story in such of a larger world. Okay, everyone that plays takes part as an 'alchemist'. Each alchemist has their own unique skill that they have honed. For example, I could be The Wind Alchemist who has the ability to create gales and tornados or perhaps The Tasty Alchemist, who has power and extensive knowlege over all cake. That part is all down to the imagination of the player. The entire role play is set around a massive tower, which legend says holds a magnificant treasure on the uppermost floor. What it is? Nobody knows, but every alchemist around the world is scrambling up this behemoth tower and facing the dangers that lie within it at the hope acheiving fame, wealth and glory. The required sign up details would be something like this: Name: Master Fud Alchemist Title: Lord of Confectionary Speciality: Cakes, buns, scones and ecclairs. Bio: Master Fud is a commited baker and loves to put smiles on peoples faces with his wonderful cakes. Blah blah blah..... Reason for climbing the tower: A rumour spread in Master Fud's hometown that the legendary tower's treasure is the ingredients for the perfect cake left by a legendary baker. So he shoots to the top blah blah blah you get the idea... What do you think?

We'd all be members of different starship crews where we would all go around doing Star Trek style missions. We'd form our crews and each crewman would have like some sort of special thing they do. And of course, Lightsabers. Details need some working out, but that's the bare idea.

In which case I'll role play as Edward Elric, the Fullmetal Alchemist who is climbing the tower in hopes of finding the philosopher's stone. An alchemic device that has the power to return his missing limbs and his brother's body that was lost in a failed transmutation to revive their dead mother. lol jk

An expansion on my Sci-Fi idea. Space... The final frontier... These are the voyages of the great explorers. Their continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds... To seek new life; new worlds... To boldly go where no one has gone before! /geek Welcome to the Academy! Lets go over some basics. First things first, you'll need to fill out that sheet. In the first spot, you'll fill out your name. In the second spot, you'll tell us your gender. That's whether you're a boy or a girl. In the third spot is appearance, that's what you look like. In the 4th spot, you'll tell us what race you are. What race you are determines what you'll look like and how you might act. Of course stereotypes aren't always true. If you are a human, you can do almost anything that doesn't require super powers! If you're a Lolfai, you're pretty magical. You don't even need a spaceship to survive in space. You'd look kind of like a human, but with an aura. If you're a Girdon, you're probably a very evil person, but you're going to have immense physical strength and look like a lizard. They are lead by their leader, the Reruf, Moldof Mitler. The White Tigers A group of aliens bent on destroying humanity. Lead by Deric Z, their immortal leader who changes color. Also, their uniforms are awesome. So yeah, that's pretty much it, unless you want to have a spaceship, in which case you'll need to just give it a name and a description/picture. Yes... we shall do that then... Ok, so we're definitally doing sci-fi... Now, we need to come up with two nations (or planets). 1. The InterGalatic Republic, or the equivilant of the galatic federation of good planets 2. InterGalatic Empire, or the evil guys :/ Or we could have it so that it's not just good vs evil, or that people can be other sides too. Like we could have a smuggler's thing or something. And people don't HAVE to ally themselves with anything, they could just make their own teams or something... Idea: A galatic war brought down the old centers of power, and there is no central power- just a series of small planetary goverments and criminal organizations. So, then people can decide for themselves if they want to choose a group or whatever.

I may or may not be interested, depending on how it turns out. I think that sci-fi is good, but it needs to have a "gritty" universe. Not just side a, side b, and/or side c and you're a member of one of those, but...maybe more Star Wars-like. More gray, less black-and-white. Varying factions of assorted sizes, but there's a huge potential for just people, trying to shoot for some goal while under the radar of the world, not as much acting as leading figures for an epic cause. When you're not playing a fantastical character, but someone who's got real texture, that's when roleplaying really hits its stride. Doesn't mean you have to play just some everyman who's average in everything, because you can have unique, special, unordinary skills, but it's all ingrained within the same character is still real, still has faults, just with strong abilities. This is, after all, an actual collaborative story at its essence, not a sheer roleplaying system. So doing it like WoW doesn't quite cut it. My activity will depend on various factors, most importantly the fact that I'm currently working on a project which will eventually be posted up here. Lots of extra time spent writing will rather limit my roleplaying interaction ability.

Oh! PvP mechanics, along with other rules, need to be worked out up front for it to work right. I'd suggest the system I proposed in the last one. Player 1 attempts action, Player 2 responds. With the "private agreement" and one player posting entire sequence an option. I should probably go dig up that port again. I'd also suggest that actual opposing factions composed of the players would be a bad thing. I'm not sure it works out well, the Navy vs. Pirates proving a good example. Too much opportunity for confusion, and degradation into a big deathmatch, story aside. Having unassociated players with some looser ties, combined with a selection of small groups of players, seems to work better. Then having a story way of getting people together for an objective runs its course better. Plus, opportunity for rogues to join into the fray as self-serving, but integrating into the story. With the number of interests this has seen, it'd be easy to have several small groups working on the same objective from different angles in varying degrees of collaboration, along with independents accenting it. If you get what I'm saying.

Um... I guess you could, but at the moment it seems we're going with sci-fi :/. You can still nominate a theme though, I suppose... If you're running it, then you need to just make a stand with whatever theme you like best. You'll probably regret it later otherwise.

EXAMPLE Name: Hawk Gender: Male Race: Dark Ghosts Appearance: A bit scruffy looking, with a sword that has a Hawk emblem engraved onto it. Specialty/Power: Can generate a burst of air to glide for a couple of seconds. Background: Hawk was born not knowing his real name and was raised by his best friend, Ghost. He soon found out that he had the aforementioned ability and learnt to master and control it. Ghost formed a faction to rebel against "The Governors" who were trying to convert everyone in the Eastern regions of the planet in order to seize control of The Platoon unfairly, which leads us to the present... ------------------------- Like that?
