How do I get onto the cool pages
Archive: 9 posts
I spend weeks on my platformers to find out they get 2-3 plays at the most, But when I go on the cool pages its full of rushed and undetailed levels. How do I get my levels noticed? How do I get plays? I would love to know so I dont spend weeks on levels for nothing. oh and Merry Christmas! | 2012-12-23 11:20:00 Author: shodge123 Posts: 22 |
As a start, link it in your post. Or rather, all of your posts by putting the link in your signature. Perhaps with a small enticing image, like in my sig. There are forums (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-Level-Showcase) on various LBP fan sites where you can show off your level. If your level isn't finished yet, you may want to create some anticipation among people, as well as (maybe) test the waters, by posting and maintaining a thread here (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?120-LBP2-Ideas-and-Projects). Give me a URL, I'll play your level. And if I like it, Twitter will know. And if Twitter likes it, too, your level will travel to places. And forget about the Cool Pages. It's a silly place. | 2012-12-23 11:45:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |

As my esteemed colleagues have mentioned, the cool pages are anything but cool. It is more the cesspool of what is going on and fancied by 5 - 8 year old players. True at times some good levels float up there once in awhile, but anymore it is a place I avoid and never ever look at. To get better as a creator it takes quite a bit of work. Not only from honing your craft, but you will need need feedback. To get great feedback, post your levels in the Level Showcase and switch on the F4F feature (Feedback for Feedback). When you post your level in the level showcase, make a detailed ad for it much like you read about upcoming games coming out. A great description, what all was involved, good pictures, great level title, interesting badge all help you to get noticed. After making your F4F level thread is the very important part. Go and play as many other F4F levels as humanly possibly and leave detailed constructive feedback for every single one of them. Not just a "Oh wow.. nice level". State what you loved, what you thought could be improved, what might have been confusing to really help that creator evolve their creation. Then and only then, leave a link to which level of yours to honor their F4F commitment. What this does is not only guarantee feedback, but it also gets you to know other creators here on LBPC and hopefully turns into some great friends as well as a network for you of other creators. Once you get to know quite a few creators you respect that are willing to help give you feedback, you can really improve if you keep trying. It really isn't about plays so much, especially when just getting started. It really is about feedback. Best of luck! | 2012-12-23 15:24:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Starting off, it's about 99.8% luck, 0.1% The people you know, and 0.1% skill. | 2012-12-24 07:25:00 Author: Flyingpotaotoman Posts: 41 |
There's no secret way to get on the cool pages (Unless you know how to exploit the crudely calculated system which I won't share). All I can say is keep creating and creating, you'll get better, become better known, end up with more plays over time and will eventually make it to the cool pages. Rarely have I see people create 1 hit wonders (In most cases they started fresh with new accounts). | 2012-12-27 04:52:00 Author: PPp_Killer Posts: 449 |
Yup I know how you feel. Luckily I figured out how to exploit the system in LBP 1 and I still know how to do it in LBP 2 unless they updated things since I left about a year ago. = P | 2012-12-27 07:37:00 Author: IcyFlamez_ Posts: 118 |
