Mighty Eagle Mining Company, Est. 1867

Archive: 1 post

So, for the past hour or so, I have been devising a story that will hopefully soon become a movie about the story of the mines and also the basis for the ride(s). I was wondering, first of all, is you all believe my story is a fitting one, and second, if anybody would like to contribute or help create this intro movie. Below is the story, and although it is a long read, I made sure to keep it interesting, so, Enjoy!

Mighty Eagle Mining Company, Est. 1867

The Mighty Eagle Mining Company, was founded in 1867 by a man who went by the name of Alexander T. Richardson, who, at the time, was directly related to the Oneday family of tycoons. Although this played no part in the times of mining, it is what lead to the old mining land being bought by Nathan Oneday- the founder of LocoTech Industries. Back on subject, Alexander started off with a mining team of about say, 10 miners. Many people deemed him insane, as no riches were ever found in Eagle Peak due to constant cave-ins. But, Alexander was determined, and pushed on. Eventually, after digging nearly 15 years, he found what he was looking for. The elusive crystals of the ancient peak finally revealed themselves in the most awe-inspiring of ways. Upon this discovery, Alexander became the richest man within 100 miles of Eagle Peak, thus gaining much power. And everyone knows that a tycoon must have a fitting house to match him! So, he built the Richardson Estate, which at the time was a sight to behold- it was nearly four stories tall! After about five years of living at the base of the mountain, a few small traders began coming and going, forming the cross-roads of a soon town-to-be. Families, miners, and families OF miners began to move into the area, which eventually became know as Eagle Gulch, and the town was officially added to the map in the year 1887. The mines and the neighboring town started to become very prosperous, so much so in fact that the Mining Company grew two new branches- the Eagle Peak Water Mill and the Richardson Brewery. But then, disaster struck- a horrific mine accident left the company crippled, and both the Richardson family and the town of Eagle Gulch slowly began to trickle out of history, while the mines and all the equipment within was left behind.

The year is now 1943, and the Richardson family has been long forgotten- or so it seemed. A man by the name of Samuel Oneday- claiming to be a distant descendant of the Richardson line- buys a plot of land that is believed to be the site of the abandoned mines. While paying a visit to the site, Samuel noticed something peculiar. Something that appeared to be an old steam-powered mining locomotive was sitting deep within the forested area of the Eagle Peak River shore- about 15 miles downstream of the "true" mining site. Now, according to some old blueprints, the mining tracks leading down from from the mountain were supposed to have ran all the way down to the Water Mill and Brewery, which were known to be about 10 miles further downstream from the location of the engine. Salvaging whatever he could, Samuel shipped the locomotive back to his workshop, where he restored it back to the vibrant blue color the mining engines were once famous for. After more exploring and excavating, Samuel discovered an additional 5 engines, each engine being unique in its own way.

Following the discovery of these engines, Samuel decided to dig deeper into the mountain that was rich with history. Selling three of the now six locomotives to museums across America, he gained enough resources to begin a full-restoration project of the mines.

After doing major re-construction of the shafts that wound throughout the mountain, Samuel found what he was looking for- the heart of the long-forgotten mine, the Clandestine Caverns. Named for their seeming ability to move about within the mountain unseen (which can be explained today by constant geological activity within the mountain). The fluorescent crystals gave the peaceful grotto an almost heavenly atmosphere, all the while seeming threatening and dangerously bountiful. There is however, an unexplained occurrence that happened in the year 1952; a geologist went into the Caverns to take a sample of the crystal, but, he never returned, and his remains never found. On the more interesting note, ever since then, the now-operational mining locomotives will, on occasion, leave the station unmanned- when the brakes are on. This phenomenon is also unexplained, and causes the trains to rush about the mountain at incredible speeds not normally achievable with the small engines. While scientists continue to question these events, the natives can trace back all of these incidents to one- when an totem spirit that was angered by the mining placed a curse on the mountain- causing the spirit of the mountain to materialize in the form of a black eagle. This spirit was, according to legend, extremely powerful, and would stalk its prey relentlessly.

Many years have passed since these events, and the current owner of the land is Nathan Oneday, who has turned the mountain and the surrounding areas into a tourist attraction. There have yet to be any modern incidents occuring, although that could change any day of the week, any month, and in any year.

The next train looks to be leaving now- will you dare to ride?
