Brand new little discovery about the Cross-Controller pack!

Archive: 8 posts

Hello guys!

I hope this is the more appropriate section!

Today, as you know, was released the Cross-Controller pack. Among the new more beautiful decorations, certainly stands out the Steam! (I hope that's the right name in the english version). I immediately fell in love, but I was very disappointed not to be able to "control" it better. But experimenting a little, I came across the ultimate solution. And I want to share with you this trick!

A little background. You know the trick on the combined hologram with pure black stickers right? For those not familiar here is the effect: The black stickers make the hologram absolutely invisible!

Here an example of this useful trick!

And here is the new trick! Applying the Steam decoration on a piece of hologram you will have the following benefits simply by changing the settings:
- Change the colour of the decoration
- Change the speed of the animation! From -200 (backwars!!!) to 200!
- Change the brightness
- The decoration is now tweakable!
- And....obviously with a black sticker you will not have any hologram that ruin the view!

This decoration has a lot of potential imho!
Use this trick wisely!

Edit: Of course, this trick works with all those decorations that have an animation! But not all of them copy the colour!

I may try this out one day, I need fog in the beginning part of my level series and the sticker panel renders improperly in the front layers.

Good find indeed.

If I may add a few tricks of my own: put the animated decoration on a logic piece - like a Counter - and then stretch that counter from its tweak window; it will stretch the decoration with it. This is a fairly old trick in LBP2 but with these animated deco it opens up a whole new world. Stretched smoke for instance, will look like a high speed wind tunnel. Yu_kamone's latest Factory level (http://lbp.me/v/h-5pyt) has such a wind tunnel.

If you apply a twist glitch on the new Worm Hole object and turn it onto the depth axis, it allows you to put decorations on it that will rotate on this depth axis. Much like the the rotating properties of the Drill object in the Incredibles DLC, or any of the X-inator tools. Except with some great advantages: the Worm Hole is flat (however, still physically solid); the Worm Hole can be turned invisible; the Worm Hole can rotate in reverse directions.

You can disable the default behavior of the Hole by wiring an empty signal to it (0% battery, OFF switch). The rotation speed cannot be changed. Its speed is slower than that of the Drill, but faster than a Grabinator.

Another side effect is that the Worm Hole appears to be able to be scaled proportionally, even after being twisted. At first it looks like it doesn't but either rewind and then forward the editor, or copy/paste the scaled Hole, and it will pop into the right shape.

Or, why go big? Small is cool, too. For instance, Sonic Rings!

You can see the rings in action in the Sonic Looping showcase level (http://lbp.me/v/9nfy9s) I made.

I already knew the new trick with the worm hole, I found out on my own the first day of the Cross Controller pack twisting the object.
But you have done well to share this trick with the community, you are welcome! Now LBP2 also has a Decoration Spinner! Well...a more poor version of it. Pro: it doesn't stretch the decorations as its original, or like the Drill object!
