Silent Hill 3 Tribute Level Series
Archive: 21 posts
Over the course of LBP1 and 2 I have been working on levels that involve one of my favorite games (Silent Hill 3). During the past year and a half I have been working on this level series trying to make it as close to the game as possible (With a lot of LBP charm thrown in ). Design The level series will flow somewhat like the real game in the sense that areas will not be straight side scroll-er action you can move into hallways and into rooms (within the limits of LBP2). Every area in the game will be made up to the Unknown station area of the real game, so there will be a lot of exploration to be had. Game-play The game play will mostly be based on that of light gun games. The aiming device appears when the action button is pressed, you will be able to move back and forth with the gun in hand in order to avoid the various monsters in the series. Heather (main character) will also be able to block oncoming monster attacks depending on timing and stamina left. All actions contribute to the stamina gauge from running, blocking, shooting, jumping, and any special attacks that come your way. The amount of stamina lost depends on what type of attack being blocked as well as what type of gun being shot. Stamina will gradually refill over time, running out of stamina means you can not block nor run. You still can shoot and jump with a depleted stamina gauge but it will take more time to recover. Heather will also have all the features of a regular sack thing (user controlled emotions, arm movements and jumping ability). During the course of the game you will pick up various items, weapons, and supplies that will be accessible by the in game menu. All your needs will be met here, map placement, memos picked up, and the options segment. All game play stops when accessing the menu so no need to worry about being attacked. The health system relies on colors to dictate how much strength you have left. (Blue-Green-Yellow-Red). Monsters The monsters in the series will be mostly made up of sack-bots and materials. The monsters will generally be designed off the real game's monsters, with a few surprises within . They will detect heather in several different ways , by light, sound, and sight. The environment and player choices will play a big role in this from using the flashlight to turning on the radio (senses monsters), shooting the guns, as well the various lights in a given area. The placement of the monsters will be completely random ( I will not even known when they will appear). I will expand on this section in the future. Design Continued This series will employ the use of data transfer systems as well as level looping (meaning that you can essentially back track to previous levels past in the series while having your data being kept track of). A password system will also be made up so that you can quit at anytime and pick up where you left off at a later time. Soundtrack I plan to create () or find songs from the community that relate towards Silent Hill 3. I already have a few songs from some amazingly talented Lbp2 composers (1 is a friend). I will expand this section to include song titles and artists at a later date. LBP2 Limitations Try as I might some things can not be implemented completely, from the amount of data transfered, to the length of the level itself, as well as the various things emitting slower than I would like. I just what to keep expectations in check and not to have anyone disappointed. All limitations aside I am trying my very best to deliver as great an experience as I can to please the many fans of Silent Hill and those of our ever expanding community. Areas My Silent Hill 3 level series will include the first 3 major areas of the game, Lakeside Amusement park (dream sequence), The Shopping Mall (both sides), and the Subway (including the trains as well). I'll post some pics of the various areas and concepts being worked on. How people have the willpower and skill to create such amazingly detailed levels is beyond me. I'm definitely looking forward to playing this one! | 2012-12-22 09:10:00 Author: Sackpapoi Posts: 1195 |
STUNNING art design. | 2012-12-22 13:49:00 Author: Unknown User |
Thanks for the great comments. I have been working like crazy for months on the first part, I can not wait to start on the second part(the mall). I'll be sure to update this thread every few days to notify everyone of it's progress. Thanks for the Support | 2012-12-22 18:46:00 Author: Rem25 Posts: 32 |
Oh wow! I was not expecting this to look this good! Normally tribute levels are decent at best but this looks amazing! | 2012-12-23 06:25:00 Author: koltonaugust Posts: 1382 |
As soon as I saw the pictures of your project, I cried manly tears of joy. I'm a fan of Silent Hill myself (specially the third) and I gotta say, you're doing a fantastic job! I can't wait to try this level myself. How long will it take you to finish this masterpiece? I love making horror levels on LBP, but they are not related to any existing videogames. I would like for you to give my Endless Nightmare levels a go. I'm sure you'll like them. | 2013-01-16 23:30:00 Author: NeonSudagatz Posts: 75 |

Hey Everyone I wanted to announce that I have been redoing the menu and sackbot logic from the ground up. Rebuilding from the ground up has allowed me to make the in game menu much closer to the real game in design. It also has allowed me to add on physical weapons (was not going to include earlier) due to difficulty integrating it into the existing logic (dating back to march 2011). Adding on the physical weapons has greatly expanded the gameplay. The brand new menu has a unique equip system where you can use the equipped supply at any time (could not do previously). Weapon changes will be done in the menu entirely, meaning no more real time weapon changes. Doing this will allow for more weapons to be put in vs only 3 at a time (plus the real game does it through the menu as well). The changing of your sackbot costume will be allowed as well, the main character is still the same regardless though (Heather). Here are some brand new pics of the Sh3 tribute level series: http://i2.lbp.me/img/ft/8923c3648fc191ea0e5e0fe7737bfd76ff4110c3.jpg The Closer monster from Sh3. http://i9.lbp.me/img/ft/9a9708ee5119606e468ea20d4dad828d690cbc18.jpg Showing the hidden transform costume concept and steel pipe. http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/9c0484bb4e210fbd00bd3ba62f6540769fc4901b.jpg http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/9a5d218c80f2fa47dc8665fdda0fe3ea69b1ce54.jpg http://ib.lbp.me/img/ft/81b3e02ca0d316290466e0f5153db2487ff9ed72.jpg http://id.lbp.me/img/ft/c3d8643223d29c453323c29adf37cf5bc3755279.jpg http://i7.lbp.me/img/ft/bc748cba0a7c141302bc42f8902a3595c7ec62ed.jpg Older pic but with lights. Before I go, always remember to name your microchips and inputs/outputs when dealing with complex logic. You"ll be thankful in the long run I can assure you . I'll be sure to give updates every so often, the planned release should hopefully be later this year if everything goes well. | 2013-02-02 14:12:00 Author: Rem25 Posts: 32 |
o~o Woah! This level looks incredible! | 2013-02-05 02:30:00 Author: Unknown User |
Ha, vile looking fleshy monsters and bloody rustic semi enclosed spaces encircled by darkness, you know it's a good LBP remake when you just need to see a picture to know what's being remade. I like how the colours have been kept homogenous (excluding in the amusement park of course). In Silent Hill there's always a colour theme (not necessarily specific to any given area) and it's reflected well in this, wish I could play it now. | 2013-02-05 12:01:00 Author: Ironface Posts: 432 |
For somebody who hasn't played Silent Hill ( Me ) , I can tell you nailed the visuals. Looks deliciously creepy heh. I will have to keep my out for this when you publish it. | 2013-02-06 05:27:00 Author: Greensmurfy Posts: 300 |

Luke_MK_II Wow looks really nice. This is going to be an awesome level. Sorry I skiped some parts of the text so please tell me how manny lvls will there be in the silent hill series? Thanks for the comment. I plan for it to be at least 10 levels, it could go higher later on though. This series uses the emitting emitter trick, so I'm packing a lot more stuff in each level than what would normally be possible. The logic takes up well over half the thermo, so some type of streaming tech had to be incorporated. Each level thermo would cap out at around 1 and a half to 2 thermos, so it should not have any problems loading and when being published. So in actuality the level amount would be over 20 levels, over the lbp2 level limit. The new in game menu has a lot more features now. I can guarantee that 75% of the players won't even use half the features. I tried to put as many of the real Silent Hill 3 menu features in. From the radio volume settings (the higher the volume the easier heather will be detected by monsters.) to the options settings (though not all the option settings will make it). So when you play Sh3 and then my series be sure to look for the little details. | 2013-02-13 05:30:00 Author: Rem25 Posts: 32 |
Hi Rem25. Gotta say my friend....Fantastic job so far. I always appreciate a good sense of design and kicking graphics. I love your surreal diffused style....its very silent hill. I do a little graphics stuff in work, so i can applaud your masterpiece. Outstanding work | 2013-02-15 13:55:00 Author: Sean88 Posts: 662 |
It has been sometime since I updated here. Some things have changed greatly. If the new areas look strange that is because it is using an odd digital art technique called "Posterization" most digital artists try to limit the effect but due to Lbp2's low res picture abilities it adds colors and a certain level of randomness to the atmosphere. Posterization changes the tone gradation of a picture. The gameplay has been changed, it no longer makes use of the aiming device, the bullets create the damage instead. Buttons have also been changed around. I'm no longer making things in order, so I have decided to start on the normal side Mall. Finished the starting bathroom and sunset walkway. The 2nd park level has been rearranged to help sticker detail, that goes for the souvenir shop as well. Pics will be added below. I have decided to release a Beta of the 1st area of the amusement park. It is a work in progress, there are sticker glitches, and it is not fully polished logically. Not all things are final so expect eye sores to change. Menu still needs work, placeholders abound. Read the description for gameplay controls, there are a lot more controls but I need more time to list them. Just wanted to gauge a little reaction, try to keep expectations in check, still a long ways to go. http://i2.lbp.me/img/ft/d42743323735548bb64c32f1b66b905d526fcbfc.jpg http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/01052ac4a1031e64afb12a81c27374648d38a10a.jpg http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/aa59312bee6b4abea3bd16ec6e03f7f5fb68e67e.jpg http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/9139797a67addea369a072b52eae652bc2fa9b1a.jpg http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/f406dec1189b601dd11798adaec662c6ed5af21a.jpg http://ic.lbp.me/img/ft/69c45d8f1d1f7658c46d5edfe36e7a31acaf2449.jpg http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/92373f38d4107a13ae9ec524cef0186f94c28d13.jpg http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/53087b81094a24df259315dfcc4f428565c0cdde.jpg http://i1.lbp.me/img/ft/81192ea5d9fe82a27b8adab8026751aba28b8b84.jpg http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/bb53bb7cb9c4302f1178eb622c749acc69015499.jpg http://if.lbp.me/img/ft/ccfdcd2a8f72afad5d0e693c640b50cdc86e9539.jpg http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/48427d5b450b625d0e6d33d4680254a5fc577623.jpg http://ia.lbp.me/img/ft/72a7225c17a1b2967400ef95c0123d49f2bca762.jpg http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/8a39514d7f45a44baa092ed32426577dbb5b02e5.jpg http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/ba4246786c61940ffd982286558c9c18ad8e333c.jpg http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/2d8b1a45b98b3bfd17528637c390252e0234cc71.jpg | 2013-07-13 06:01:00 Author: Rem25 Posts: 32 |
