Raceway of the Romans (https://karting.lbp.me/v/3agb) My second level and this one has a maxed out thermometer. Interestingly, I got frequent warnings that I had used too many objects when adding logic. I had to go around deleting scenery pieces that weren't too vital just so I could add more sensors or sound effects or AND gates. "Rip round a Roman raceway. Juipter (king of the gods) will charge your lightning bolt weapon to help fend off the lesser mortals racing against you. Golden chevrons in the road will speed you forward under Mercury's power." I've made a custom lightning weapon which bounces off scenery a few times so you can shoot around a corners. There are boost pads under the chevrons so you can get some speed on at certain sections. I still need to tweak the HUD - it seems once you place a text box and link it to a HUD tweaker, moving the text box is a bit weird - the text appears in the original place and doesn't seem to follow the new position. Have a gander at these pics and think about queuing! https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/153563/data.jpg https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/153559/data.jpg https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/153565/data.jpg https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/153551/data.jpg https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/153561/data.jpg | 2012-12-19 19:01:00 Author: aratiatia Posts: 374 |
I'm loving the color, queued. You forgot the level link! lol | 2012-12-19 22:51:00 Author: anarchowolf Posts: 194 |
Well, since I had to look up the page to queue it anyway... https://karting.lbp.me/v/3agb | 2012-12-19 23:03:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |

Okay, I really loved some of what we have here. The general feel is great, the charging lightening weapon is brilliant (although a bit rough in the AI's hands) and the platforming section was my favorite part. And despite the pillars, the hint-less grapples and sudden platforming, it was all nicely done, smooth and natural. | 2012-12-19 23:54:00 Author: anarchowolf Posts: 194 |

I was getting the grapple thought bubble pop up when I played, I wonder if it varies with your angle of approach or something? I guess you mean the pillars on the track? I wanted something to make the player weave in and out rather than race up a ramp. I have wondered about making the pillars lean a bit more but I think they give a good dense effect - you have to think fast to navigate them successfully. I have seen some AI stuck there, smack in the middle of a pillar. They need a good smack to dislodge Yeah, the pillar descent is meant to be precarious. Part of the skill required for this section is that you stay central and aim for the next drop - more quick thinking. I have wondered about tweaking the air-handling for this point because steering in air is crap at the default setting! Chuck a tag down in the middle of the descent, place a tag sensor linked to a handling tweaker on each spawn point, maybe. You've just inspired me to try this out! Still having trouble with the HUD - I wanted the "reset..." and "charging..." and "ready!" alerts to be above the dial, centred, but for some reason they appear to the left. Tweaking the text alignment (left, centre, right) does nothing. I've deleted the HUD icons and the HUd tweakers and replaced them all, no change. Curious... Thanks for your feedback! | 2012-12-20 02:08:00 Author: aratiatia Posts: 374 |

Just played this. I liked the track itself, it was rather interesting. But the weapon system doesn't really do much to enhance the experience. Weapons are a way for people to catch up, and by the end of the race the players were so spread out the weapons had no chance of hitting anyone. If you like the weapon system, I suggest adding in a rubber banding system to make a persons kart a little faster when they're not in first so they have a chance to catch up. Aside from that, I liked this one. | 2012-12-22 13:12:00 Author: IvoYaridovich Posts: 88 |
Played this track last night. Loved the aesthetics and atmosphere. The platforming section was well implemented and the obstacles were terrific. To me though, it seemed like the track was missing something. I can't quite put my figure on it, but it kept it from being brilliant. Maybe adding more environmental variety and color would solve the problem. Also, I really think this track could benefit from adding Chevrons or some other way to indicate an upcoming corner. In my opinion, Chevrons make a track look more polished and professional as well as aid racers. There was also one corner at the last third of the track where are continually aired into a wall. This is definitely a huge pet peeve for me. Overall though, the track is very good with clever ideas and wonderful atmosphere. | 2012-12-22 16:29:00 Author: Manlius10A Posts: 88 |
Problem: one of those swinging hooks knocked me off the level but i landed on the base of a pillar, it wouldn't let me move, or reset, but didn't kill me for being out of bounds, either. so, pretty much a level-killing bug when it happens. :/ the rest of the level looks good though, i watched my younger brother play it through since i was stuck EDIT: Just realized pressing select would have reset me anyway -_- don't mind me lol | 2012-12-31 15:32:00 Author: frosty_greenacre Posts: 100 |
