Work-around for this?

Archive: 5 posts

Ok, so, in my latest level, I am working on a boss in a different crater (so as to not mess anything up and such.

My boss basically works as follows:

1. There is a enemy with one brain down in the bottom play area.
2. The enemy has an invisible magnetic key on it, with an invisible magnetic key switch in the background.
3. The magnetic key is set to inverted, so that, when you defeat the enemy, it also dissolves a dissolve block in the "mechnical" area.
4. The dissolve block has a magnetic key on it too, set to inverse also. When you defeat the enemy, the dissolve is no longer there, so the magnetic key will be triggered to an emitter, and this is where it gets more complicated.
5. the emitter doesn't just emit the enemy again- rather, it emits the enemy AND two blocks, one a dissolve, and also a piece a piece of material with a magnetic key in the background of the fight area. These four objects will essientally be one captured object.
6. The emitter emits these four objects, each connected by wires- the magnetic key on the enemy (a different color this time) triggers the magnetic key in the background when you defeat the enemy, which in turn triggers the dissolve to dissolve, which in turn triggers the magnetic key up there, which in turn triggers another emitter to emit another enemy. This will go on.

I was doing this quite happily with how it was going, until I remembered- captured objects cannot remember the wires with the latest patch.

As such, the four objects cannot be wired correctly to respond to each other.

I HAVE, however, come up with an idea while writing this- instead of one emitter emiting all four objects as one object, there will be four emitters triggered by the magnetic key and dissolve- one for each item. Since they're magnetic keys, which work without wires in regards to triggering, it MAY work, but then the switch may not activate anything due to wires not working there either...

I cannot have the magnetic keys out first off though, since there will be a period before it's needed where the enemy won't be there, and since it's inverse it would work anyway...

Does this make sense? If so, anyone have any work-arounds, or do I have to wait until the fix comes so I can capture enemies with wires?

It does and it sounds like a really cool idea, however, I think you are going to need the patch to accomplish this.

EDIT...THOUGHT OF SOMETHING: Instead of having the Boss appear in the same postion...maybe it is linear, and you battle bigger and bigger bosses that are lined up and seperated by disolve walls or something. Not even close to being as cool as your idea but could work in place of the emiter issue.

I figured as such... I think they said something about something in ten days, so hopefully that's the patch... *sigh*

There is a workaround for this bug but I don't know if it can apply for your situation.

Link your things with dissolve or rods/ropes and they will not lose the wiring anymore... since they are linked by dissolve or rods.

So maybe you can link your stuff with dissolve but make it disappear as its spun?

Using an extension of this idea, you could have an unused colour key on the ground, and then put very large radius magnetic switches which are on the dissolve linking everything up. It's on the dissolve, and it's set to dissolve the dissolve it on, if that makes sense.

The idea is that as soon as it appears, the dissolve instantly goes.

The only problem with this is that it might mean that you can't emit any more, as emitters won't fire if it is putting a solid object where an existing one already is.

I'm not sure, but if that's the case and it can be done, some long length string could be another way to work around. Those things ignore walls. It just depends on how everything moves and what walls are in place.

Hope it helps.
