Twysted Tales 2 : Tower of Epiphany (storybased, trailer inside)

Archive: 15 posts

Hey community,

I'm back again. Those of you who are still looking for a story based level, feel free to play my second standalone level.

Name: Twysted Tales 2: Tower of Epiphany
PSN: Onymega
Location: Iceland

Plot : Your friend left for the Tower of Epiphany and you follow to stop him because those who walk the Path of Epiphany and reach the tower are never to be seen again.

For more story details including a short prelude to this level, visit my blog at http://twystedtales.blogspot.com/

Featuring :

- 2 different endings
- 2 bosses
- Medium - hard difficulty
- Choose between Storymode (Story + gameplay) and Gameplaymode (Gameplay without story interruptions)
- Ability to skip the first half of the level after you beat the first boss in order to reduce frustration if you die in the second half.
- Playtime : Gameplaymode = about 20 min
Storymode = about 25 min

Trailer : v_yZYdeunOk

HD Trailer: v_yZYdeunOk&fmt=18

Please keep in mind that due to severe thermometer restraints I had to delete a lot of decoration in order to complete the level, so some spots might look fairly bland.
The next Twysted Tales will be shorter in length but have more decoration and detail. Still learning from my mistakes

Feedback is always appreciated and I will give some too. (about 10 levels)

dude this level rocks!! totally original

ok but heres the bit u wanna hear

improvements:
the bit with the floating red dots twith the platforms that gas u, it would b better if the second line of dots was out of sync to the first line, allowing for a smooth jumping between platforms ( i need to wait before i can jump n end up being gassed of falling off ledge :*S

the camera angle at the part with the hollow pillars with the spikes u gotta jump through, would be cooler if it wasnt at such a ''tilt''. also a checkpoint straight after this part would be appretiated.

that safe/death bit... genius!!
boulders rolling that need bouncing...also genius!!

when i fell at spinning grab bit ( after boulder bounce hill ) i saw a circuit board with darkmatter n switch ( i know its a stupid thing to mention but this level is like in top 5 best played n i want it to b perfect )

got my *** handed to me at the bit after the tentecle boss, less plasma balls maybe, (or a gun switches off when u kill 1 of the shadow dudes)

this level... wow greatly look forward to more in future

5/5 stars heart on u as author and level

Hey guys,

Thanks for the quick feedback Talmasca. I use the feedback players provide to help me improve my next level. I would fix and add things to this one, but even adding an extra checkpoint would overheat the level.

All my levels are copyable, so that people can adjust the small parts which are too hard for them.
The reason I did not cover up every bit of dark matter is because I got annoyed by the overheating error and had to stop working on the level. Let's say I made it too long for it's own good.

Lesson learned from TT1 : Don't make your level out of one piece.
Lesson learned from TT2 : Don't make it too long and don't use the circle tool for decoration because it will eat the thermo.

Alrighty, I played through the level up to the point with the paintinator, which was extremely hard. Actually the level was pretty hard throughout, but I loved it man. Here's what I got to say:

Pros

- I loved how you gave the player the option of whether to play story mode or gameplay mode at the beginning of the level. Great idea man, and it shows you really care about the people playing your level. One thing to note though, spelling mistake on the first bubble when you begin the game. Forget exactly what it was, but it's an easy fix.

-Some of your platforming was surprisingly unique. When I began the level I anticipated more of the same old, but was pleasantly surprised. I especially liked the jumping boulder part Was really, really neat man. All I can say there is 2 checkpoints might be neccessary there. It takes a lot of guess and check, but the player won't get bored because it's such a fun concept. Also Zanax was pretty neat. You made it clear what to do, and pulled it off excellently. Great work!

-The level was hard. I love hard levels that test my platforming skills and I found myself on the last life like 4 times in the level hahaha...I would have played it over again and beat the darn thing but it signed my out of PSN halfway through ><

-Your dialogue was really neat and well thought out. Loved the 3 masks in conversation

Cons

- The name of the level itself doesn't seem to fit. An epiphany involves a revelation and I didn't see the sackperson "discover" anything persay. I didn't make it to the end, so I may be way off here.

- Some sections were painfully hard. While I thoroughly enjoyed almost all of them, a few were kind of unneccessarily difficult. Mainly the paintinator section. Some of the "butterflys" are in really awkward places making it nearly impossible to shoot them in time to activate the pistons. Maybe speed up the pistons so it's instantaneous. Also the spinning electrical thingy was really, really annoying since you couldn't see it until it was too late to change your jump. Loved the concept, just incredibly difficult imo.

-As mentioned above, I landed on a chunk of dark-matter (a switch) after falling off the spinning thingers. I'm sure you can trim something up to address this man. Kind of takes away a little bit from the level.

Altogether a really treat to play though! Brilliant work here, and when PSN lets me back online I'll be sure to 5 star/heart it Also welcome to LBPC. I hope you stay active, because the more talented creators the better.

F4F Please grab a friend and check out the level: SEMINAL GEMINI (2 player ONLY)

It is under the PSN: NinjamicWZ and is a co-op level me and Ninja put together recently. I'm sure you'll love it Thanks bud

I just managed to complete it. The level's great, but some parts can be unfairly difficult, like the part with the spikes moving up and down diagonally, you have to get the timing just right, and you have to land on a platform on a different plane. It's also unclear how to skip the first part. I have a key sticker, but I don't know where to place it.2009-01-19 20:30:00

I am one of the FEW who has played the whole level, and this is what I thought.

What I liked
The story was very....strange, but in a good way. Like Twilight Zone strange. The story is definitely up there with other great levels, like Left Behind. It had some platforming parts that I had never seen in any other level before, like the platforms you had to grab, which made them go down, then you let go and they launch you. That was cool. The level was long, I'm not going to lie, and when I was finally finished I couldn't believe how much time I just spent on ONE level, but that was only because I saw the clock and thought I had spent much less time on this level. Really, with the great story, the great amount of fun to be had, and just the right amount of challenge, it seemed much shorter than it was. I must say, that boss battle was brilliant. So original. I also loved the platforms you jumped on, then a red light above you would get brighter and brighter until it emits horrible gas. Very clever. Oh, and can I just say, THANK YOU! Thank you for giving us a choice at the end, I got the bad ending. But then again, I only played through it once, so I wouldn't know if there is a good ending. And killing the god gave me the same...weird feeling that Prince of Persia gave me. Especially when the faces helped me see what I had just done. It gave me that "Did I just do that?!?" feeling. Not like the feeling you get in God of War when you rip a harpy's wings off, but the feeling you get at the end of PoP when you realize you've done something horrible.

What I didn't like:

The section where you're in the little floaty ball thing, it was kind of difficult to control. Too hard to steer. It's possible to do, but it's just a little frustrating. The section with the Paintinator felt unneeded. Especially the part with the slide. But then again, it didn't RUIN the level for me, I just thought it was a cheep excuse to use the Paintinator, but I can't say I blame ya. I know EVERYONE is excited to use the Paintinator. The little slide show epilogue, what's the purpose of the Dark matter everywhere? I'm sorry, it just kind of confused me and distracted me. The boss with Zanax, (I think that's his name) one of the little faces got crushed under that electrocuted door that moves up and down that guards one of the faces.

In conclusion, this level was fantastic. 5 stars and hearted. I'll have to try your other Twysted Tale levels. Keep up the good work.

I beat this yesterday after a second attempt! You're a mean man haha!! It's definitely tough but some of the ideas are so great that it's cool enough to stick it out. The variety of platforming so solid! You've got some really creative hazards. The part where you're jumping through red plasma ball from section to section and this kinda of Spartan laser is charging up to blast you if you take too long is awesome!! Consider it stolen if some form or another haha! The launcing rocks were great too. Your biggest problem is that most people simply won't beat it. This is the only level I haven't beaten yet on my first try, barring some kind of broken mechanics. You and Mr Itagaki formerly of Tecmo games are in contest for the meanest level creators in existence. Again some of the emitter timing could be a little more tightened up and the camera in some areas is tricky to work with, especially when have to jump between forground and background at deceptive angles.

One problem I had is that when I chose sacrifice at the end, I was taken to an area that opened up into a pit of gas. I'm not sure if I was supposed to die or if something wasn't triggered properly cause I couldn't seem to land anywhere safe, just into poison over and over, until I was out of men. The second time I just chose the other option and had no trouble.
Hearted indeed!

+Great variety
+Great difficulty
+Long
+Story driven, with the option to turn it off on repeat plays! Good thinking!
+Cool atmosphere
+Complex gizmos

-Too hard for most (just direct them to my level made for Cry Babies)
-Emitter could use tweaking
-Camera can be tricky.

I've played this (and also part 1) yesterday, and it blew my mind.
It was a awesome looking level, with a fun story, and great things all around.
The choice whether to go Gameplay Mode, or Story Mode was a great touch.

I do have 1 question though, the first time i played i wanted to go left, which was the 1st play part. But instead, the bridge collapsed and i fell into gas :O
I had to go right and in the end i only fought 1 boss...

Anyway, awesome level! Keep it up!

Hey ThommyTheThird about the part to the left in the beginning, t's supposed to be small story event.
When you approach the bridge a magic mouth with a fixed camera should be
activated and stop you from falling into the pit were the bridge was.

But it seems that when you don't click away the first text message you receive when you enter the level before reaching the bridge, that the magic mouth from the bridge gets queued and won't activate it's camera.
I can't sea how to fix this immediately, but I will look into it.

Thanks for playing guys and if I forgot to give feedback on someone's level, please send a pm and let me know.
