Tetris

Archive: 13 posts

Hi everyone.

I had some time off work and decided to have a go at making Tetris on LBP Vita.

I made Tetris for LBP2, but this Vita version has been totally redesigned.

This first version is 1 player only, however, I'm planning to add a 2 player VS mode soon. There's loads of thermometer left, so I should be adding more stuff in future.

Sorry there's no pictures. The level uses notes for text and they're not shown in LBP photos. Anyway, you all know what Tetris looks like.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

A big Thank You to Cortster12 for the music.

Hope you like it.

Hi! Good idea, I remember when I used to play Tetris on my game boy in the early '90! I have never liked Tetris particularly... But I'll try this!

Remember that the PS Vita has the fantastic feature to take screenshots just pressing the PS button and Start at the same time! So you can show us some image of your work!

Queued! Will report back with my thoughts. I am looking forward to playing this on the Vita a lot. It'll save my phone's battery (Where I usually play Tetris)2012-12-17 22:50:00

Really fun level man, visuals were sweet and everything worked well (mostly, but ill come to that in a minute). I thought it was a pretty sweet level altogether, and im gonna download it so i can play anytime. It would have been cool if you could choose to have a rotated view like in the story minigames, but i suppose the controls would have been a bit awkward.

As i was trying to get as many "tetrises" as possible i ended up with a huge solid block of pieces, with one thin line down the middle waiting for the four-long rectangle pieces to come. After waiting for ages two or three came along at once, and i thought it was gonna be a bumper points harvest, but unfortunately after that point no lines were counted and i ended up with a completely solid wall that took up half the play-area. On top of this there was a small bug in which a yellow square came to rest in between two positions, and messed up one whole side of the screen.

If it wasnt for these meddling bugs im sure i could have beaten your score and gotten into first place

Once you have ironed out these issues im sure it will be a fantastic level i yayed it

Thanks for playing and downloading the level, and for reporting the bugs. Sorry the game broke and you didn't beat my score.

As I try to fix one bug another one appears and if I make sure no bugs occur then the game runs too slowly. I'm currently redesigning the whole logic system because of these bugs. The new logic system should solve the problems without affecting the speed.

In the meantime, I would suggest playing the level without spamming buttons since this seems to cause the bugs (except for the one involving the 4x1 block... I've experienced it myself a couple of times, but don't know what causes it).

Hi,

Tetris was on of my first Games i can remember... i probably was 3 or 4. On the good old Gameboy.

I actrually still play it regulary ^^ still own my SNES with Tetris and Dr. Mario, its one of the best multiplayer games on there... me and a friend battle there all the time...

Your Level is a good attemp on Tetris, the music is very well done. The gameplay is ... ehm.. Tetris ^^

Its just that this bugs occurs where blocks gets layed over others... i know this bug from another lbp level, where someone rebuild lumines... it was the exact same thing... and the problem that when the blocks fall down to fast, the controls arent that smooth anymore if u wanna slide them left or right....

Anyways... i dont know even if u can fix those things... but if u can, its a very good attempt on tetris.

But on thing really bothered me.... its Tetris and u cant do Tetrises! (cleaning 4 rows) Thats the most fun. Thats what Tetris is about ^^ besides if u are an uberpro and play it with T-Spins only or with Invisible Blocks at Hyperspeed (check out youtube for that, its crazy)

I imagine it must be somehow possible to get multiplied points for cleaning 4 rows... maybe insert some sort of audiovisual effect... thats what makes Tetris so addicting.

Anyways, nice Level.

I thought the controls for playing the game in portrait mode would seem awkward too. I have been thinking about making a portrait mode version by using Touch/Gesture control:-

Tap Left or Right of the block to move left and right.
Swipe down to drop down
Swipe left and right to rotate clockwise and anti-clockwise.

I'm not sure wether the additional touch logic would slow things down too much. I'll probably do some tests to make the touch controls as responsive as possible.

I have been thinking about what visual effects I can add, but I wanted to get the gameplay mechanics sorted before doing the fun, arty stuff. The level only uses 3 notches on the thermometer, so there's loads of space to add some cool stuff.

the music is very well done.
The music was made by Cortster12, it only took him about an hour to make both Theme A and Theme B! A very talented composer.

i dont think the problem came from button spamming, if i recall correctly i might have tried to move it right at the last second before it locked into place? and it took up a position in between where it was and where i wanted it2012-12-18 20:56:00

This was great fun! The music was great, Corster12 did a great job. I have to say though, I also has several blocks that went out of alignment. I'll keep an eye out for an update and your future levels!2012-12-18 23:51:00

Yeah, Sorry. My mistake. I seemed to notice the problem when I was spamming the buttons while testing. I now think it's a timing issue since it looks like the blocks are moving down and horizontal in the same frame when they should move in separate frames. The new logic system I'm working on should sort it out (hopefully).

although very few original

The idea is good but the realization is average

To start the music loop is too short and a marked recovery

Finally after not even 1min game...my game is stopped because the block is not put and continued to fall off the screen.

bug rude ...

I was surprised That you do not get to Realize.
and corrected this flaw. -_-"

to good word to you. salvation.
