Can you slow down In/Out Movers?
Archive: 7 posts
I'm making a level and in this level when you walk up to big metal walls/blocks they retract allowing you to pass. I'm currently using the in/out mover combined with a player sensor, it's all working great apart from the speed, the retraction time is too quick. I want to give the impression that these walls/blocks are heavy! Making the player wait a few seconds. There is no option to choose speed in the in/out mover like a piston so I was maybe thinking about using a piston but you can't place them behind objects to retract it in as far as I'm aware. Any help? | 2012-12-17 04:37:00 Author: AlexStarkie Posts: 37 |
there is no way to slow down layer changes, simply adding a sound to the in/out movement can greatly improve the illusion of it being heavy, for example find something that sounds like gears/chains or cables straining b4 it moves with a heavy thud. otherwise the only option would be to have it moving up into the ceiling or down into the floor slowly | 2012-12-17 07:19:00 Author: evret Posts: 612 |
Thanks for the reply, I just went with the illusion with sound effects. Works a lot better now. | 2012-12-17 15:55:00 Author: AlexStarkie Posts: 37 |

You could also just use a follower which is set to follow a tag to be able to change layer, then set the speed by which you want it to follow the tag to that specific layer. This will allow you to tweak the speed to your heart's content. | 2012-12-17 17:15:00 Author: theIronHorse Posts: 279 |

I connected a player sensor to the follower so that I would move when I get close. I placed a tag on the wall behind the block. It moves back when I get close but no matter what I set the max speed and acceleration to, it always moves at the same speed as the in/out mover. | 2012-12-17 18:18:00 Author: AlexStarkie Posts: 37 |
you can't change the speed of items changing layers to my knowledge, but i am quite a noob at little big planet so i wouldn't know | 2012-12-18 01:08:00 Author: Unknown User |
It's impossible, so... yeah. I generally don't use in-outs with "heavy" things, as it generally ruins the effect. But the sound idea is pretty good, nice! | 2012-12-20 16:59:00 Author: Unknown User |
