Republishing levels after they become Team Picks...
Archive: 14 posts
I am unsure which LBPK board to post this, so I posted this in the Everything Else board. To my great surprise and excitement, I've found out just shortly before posting this topic that both my levels I have published so far in LBPK became team picks! This gives me an opportunity to get even more feedback on my levels so I can continue to improve them. So far, my first ever level, LittleBigHouse Raceway, has gotten criticism over the amount of leader seeker and homing missiles in the level, mainly due to my not knowing about the random weaponator bug when I was building it. I want to address this and any other issue I receive. My concern about republishing levels after they become team picks...would doing so remove their team pick status? | 2012-12-14 16:34:00 Author: JudgeSpear Posts: 122 |
I think MM picks in LBP2 have been republished without incident - I would like to hope it's the same here. You might have to bite the bullet and just do it and let us know what happens | 2012-12-14 18:51:00 Author: aratiatia Posts: 374 |
From my activity feed on lbp.me of friends and hearted people. They could republish without a problem. But since LBPK is like a whole nother ball game out there, you never know. I'd recommend keeping track of other team picked players activity feeds on karting.me | 2012-12-14 21:03:00 Author: JKthree Posts: 1125 |
I noticed a few levels in the Team Picks list that no longer had the pink ribbon. Might have been caused by a republish, or some other bug. Maybe one of the creators would shed some more light on this. | 2012-12-14 21:45:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
The only thing affects are the amount of plays you have on the track, but the hearts and likes stay, I've seen Caiman_6 update his track that got team picked. | 2012-12-14 21:46:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'll take a hit for the team. I'll republish what I consider to be the lesser of my two levels, LittleBigHouse Raceway, after I apply some updates to it and report the results here. EDIT: I'll try to verify s3v3nt33n's reports by my own actions. | 2012-12-14 22:37:00 Author: JudgeSpear Posts: 122 |
Let me know what happens, I've been kind of iffy about improving the complaints on Steampunk Dreamland for the same reason. And super congrats! | 2012-12-14 23:42:00 Author: anarchowolf Posts: 194 |
I republished LittleBigHouse Raceway, addressing the unbalanced random weaponator distribution and fixing that annoying hairpin turn that leads to the bookcase. Here are my findings: *It does remain a Team Pick, but the fancy pink ribbon that denotes a Team Pick level no longer is around the level portal (I will report this as a bug in the bug reports topic). *In-game when I view the list of Team Picks, my level is moved all the way to the bottom of the list, rather than remain in the order it was made a Team Pick along with other levels during the last Team Pick selection. The level appears after the very first batch of team picks which consist of a handful of levels by LBPK_Community. *In comparison to lbp.me, my level still remains on the Team Picks list in the order it was made one during the last selection process. It is unknown if this will affect the visibility of my level as a Team Pick...I will provide updates as I get them. | 2012-12-15 13:55:00 Author: JudgeSpear Posts: 122 |
How odd. I guess United Front still have some tidying up to do with their code. Thanks for putting your level on the line and sharing the results with us all. As an aside, I'm enjoying Karting. In some ways it seems like LBP1 - useable and fun but with some overly complicated tools that are likely to be simplified and made more powerful in the sequel, with room for a lot of patching and updates - do you know what I mean? It's like, when you look at LBP2 with it's bigger glamour factor and more diverse tools compared to LBP1, you can see how simple LBP1 was. I kind of think Karting could be like that with the next version (if there is one) so much more user friendly. Anyhoo, thanks again! | 2012-12-15 19:04:00 Author: aratiatia Posts: 374 |
The tools are actually pretty easy once you get used to them, I will admit though it's a little difficult yo move from everything we had in LBP2 to what we have here which is somewhat mixed between 1 and 2. And some things confuse me. Like the non colliding grey square in the objects.. It should be a material... I dunno what use it has as an object, you can't cut it, change the opacity, I don't get it. Also, thanks for checking that out for us! | 2012-12-16 06:02:00 Author: anarchowolf Posts: 194 |
Yeah - going off topic now - what he heck is the "occluder" sheet for? It hangs like a grey sheet in the sky. I could just "occlude" with a cotton reel or a circle of dark matter, same useless effect. Are we missing something here? | 2012-12-16 07:58:00 Author: aratiatia Posts: 374 |
The occluder sheet makes all objects on the other side of it invisible when looking through it. It's used in 3-D editors to greatly enhance performance because the game engine doesn't need to process all the objects at once. I place it within the terrain and objects, so it isn't noticeable visually, but still improves performance. Let me explain: Objects on the other side of large objects like walls or huge terrain features like mountains can't be seen by the player. So by adding an occluder box within that structure the game also doesn't need to process those objects - enhancing performance. I don't know how effective at enhancing performance it is in LBPK, though. Also, it should be much more effective to add one enormous occluder sheet than several small ones. | 2012-12-17 18:40:00 Author: Manlius10A Posts: 88 |
Four days after republishing my level, it seems its visibility was not affected too much. It still recieves a decent amount of new plays per day, though not nearly as much as before I republished it. I don't know how many people use karting.lbp.me to queue up or search for levels to play, but it seems like that number is less than the amount of players looking for levels to play in-game; a republished Team Pick level gets pushed all the way to the bottom of the Team Picks list in-game, before the handful of LBPK_Community Team Picked levels that were among the first to be picked. | 2012-12-19 05:52:00 Author: JudgeSpear Posts: 122 |
Yeah, I never queue up Team Picks, I can find them perfectly well without queueing. | 2012-12-19 10:16:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
