Controlinator - moving the joystick slightly in one direction yields reverse movement

Archive: 3 posts

This must be a problem that's been addressed before.

I have the left/right joystick output of my controlinator hooked into an AND gate, which outputs to an advanced mover. The other half of the AND gate can be any power source. Pushing the joystick fully to either direction works fine, but if you tilt the stick slightly left, the object goes right. It doesn't show to be activating the controlinator while it's doing this either, and the same goes for up/down (tilting down goes up). It only happens in those directions - tilting right or up works fine.

If this is an unfixable bug, any suggestions for how to switch what a joystick controls while staying in the same controlinator? Thanks in advance.

Split both the horizontal as the vertical signal by using a signal splitter. You'll end up with four outputs. Wire each of these to their own AND gate, paired with the power source and recombine them with two signal combiners.

With this setup, however, if you are varying the analog value of the power source - which will function as a speed maximum this way - a problem arises: try moving diagonally and the object will move significantly faster than on the horizontal and vertical plain alone. This is because on X and Y axis separately the speed would be x, while diagonally it would be x on both directions (Pythagoras, ?1.4x).

Perhaps it is better to ditch the splitters/combiners/AND gates and instead wire the controls directly into the advanced mover. Set the mover to speed scale input and wire the variable power source signal into the bottom input of the advanced mover.

Great advice. I'll see how it works out.

EDIT: First solution did the trick. Cheers.
