Transfering Data Between PS3s

Archive: 5 posts

So I currently have a 40 gig PS3, which as you may know isn't much.

However, I'm considering trading it in for the following system:

... taking advantage of the 50 dollar trade in bonus and my Christmas money to do so.

My other plan would be to get a new harddrive, but considering that I haven't played Uncharted 3 yet and the money and stuff, I'm not sure if that's the best bet... What do you think?

Also, I am completely clueless about transfering data, and don't want to lose any data (obviously). I have PS+, so could I just save everything there and keep it that way, and then reinstall things as I need them?

when I got a replacment ps3 (after constant bugs in the lbp2 beta killed my old one) I transfered all my saves over using a usb drive. A usb will do fine for transfering them but it is important that your psn (sen) account AND user account matches those of your old console to stop the saves locking and being unable to be used. Transfer save data only as game data takes up more room and can be reinstalled just by playing the game anyway... so transferring that is a bit pointless.

Although if I were in your position I'd just use ps+ save cloud (but have a backup usb just in case it doesn't work) and try it that way first.

PS+ will be enough to back up all your save data and is the only way to move locked save files between systems.

Changing the hard drive would probably be the cheaper option but with the age of a 40gb system its probably safer to upgrade now before it dies.

Also make sure to delete everythng and deactivate your account(s) before you sell it.

No need to go that far.
