Zelda: Hyrule Romp

A long, long time ago the World was in an age of Chaos. In the middle of this chaos, in a little kingdom in the land of Hyrule, a legend was being handed down from generation to generation, the legend of the Sackboy – a racer of unparalleled prowess.

*ahem* Sorry for the overdramatization. The Zelda track is finally done. The thermo is about to blow on this one. I left a little room for tweaks, but that's about it.

There are several prize bubbles lying around, one of which will take a self-sacrifice to get. I hope you all really enjoy this track, and that I at least held up the standard that I set from my last track.

Well, what are you waiting for? GO RACE!

The track is great as usual I really loved the custom weapons.

Oddly enough, I dreamed of this last night...

Queued

EDIT: Played it, loved it. I kind of like how you sacrifice your place in the race by going in the castle, I did some of the same things in Steampunk Dreamland. Personally I think it gives collection more importance. But other players might not feel the same, I'm not sure but for future tracks you might want to make a full track through objects like that.

And the dark forest, straight out of the dream I had last night. Trippy.

I'm glad you really liked the track guys.

Anarcho: My thinking behind making you sacrifice yourself to get that bubble was that it would possible give incentive to replay the track, plus it would show off that you COULD go into the castle if you wanted to. Originally I had breadcrumbs leading through there so you wouldn't die, but it actually slowed you down more, and the stupid AI kept driving in circles on the lawn. lol

"I'm not sure but for future tracks you might want to make a full track through objects like that."

I'm not sure exactly what you meant by this. Please elaborate.

Additionally: I want to know what everyone liked and DIDN'T like about the track equally. I'm a big boy and can take criticism, so if something just didn't seem to be working, let me know. I want to improve, and insincere praise only leads to stagnation and complacency in my eyes.

Thank you everyone for checking out the track. Be sure and let me know what you think. I was concerned about some things, particularly it being my first time making custom weapons.

That is because I have a bad case of OCD. I have Obsessive Course-making Disorder.

Another excellent race! You did a great job switching up the environment, and your artwork is outstanding.

The highlights of the course were portions where there was a lot going on around you, my favorite probably being after you land and begin approaching the castle on the ground. That castle looks very, very pretty.

The weapon placement seemed pretty good as well and I loved the custom weapons (especially the chicken!). I didn't find myself agitated that I was getting hammered by weapon after weapon or anything. I did have an issue with 1st and 2nd place pulling ridiculously far ahead because I got killed by the ghosts in the first lap, but that was probably just because I suck at racing and couldn't catch up

You told me to be blatantly honest with you on this level, so I'm going to state my biggest problem, and that is that you seem to have small sections of the race with outstanding looking characters that you built (and boy oh boy are those characters beautiful), but then you have other sections that are barren. For me, the barren sections outweigh the great looking sections. I am certainly no master of decorating, so I don't really have any good advice for exactly how to fix the barren feel, but I imagine that if you mess around you could find things to put into these areas.

One other thing is at the very end of the lap you have a jump and the jump lets you see outside the level. Can you control the camera on the jump so that it points away from the edge and doesn't let you see out? One of the biggest complaints you will hear from any LBP player is that they hate seeing the edge of a level. That may not be a complaint on LBPK, but it would still probably be best to avoid it if at all possible.

So, I know I said a lot of critical things there, but it is only because you pretty much begged me to I actually really like this level! Great work, and I am looking forward to your next project

Thank you for the review poo! You know... I'll never get used to calling you that. lol

I had a problem with barren spots around the Lost Woods. That's actually why I ended up building the village, which is something I am eventually going to redesign to add custom buildings. There are SO MANY trees in the forest that my objects wouldn't render right if you were looking at them while facing the forest. That's why a lot of things are placed where they were, and why I used those crappy stock ghosts instead of custom ones, because the stock ones would render properly. Which areas particularly were you concerned with?

I can see what I can do about the camera during the last jump. I wasn't that concerned about it since the level breeches the "fourth wall" so much anyway, and has a lot of ridiculous qualities, but I can definitely see how it would be an issue, and should be easily remedied.

I don't know what I can do about 1st and 2nd place. Those positions only have access to 2 weapons, so I'm not sure what else I could do other than limit kart speed on the track for the opponents. I'll take a look though. I don't want the track to be too challenging.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful reply. It's an alright track, but I know that it's no Metroid.

Another level of yours with brilliant character designing. The execution of the obstacles are very good, and the weaponator creations are well-made. I think the four-legged bugs (forgot their name) should have hazardous tools. Great job.
