Level Links kick other players upon loading (my level). Help would be appreciated!

Archive: 8 posts

Whenever I'm playing my level online with other players and I use a level link to access another one of my levels, everyone but me gets kicked upon loading. The level in question is marked as a sub level, with 85% thermo filled. This is getting really annoying, especially since my levels depend on those links! Is this happening to other people? I need this fixed so I can continue testing my game.

You will be credited for helping me out in the credits! Thanks!

From what I've read, a player's costume takes thermo space as well. I don't know how much space a single costume takes (probably more if it has lots of different decorations/stickers), but it could be that your level is overheating because of that. Don't take my word on it though.2012-12-11 17:51:00

They aren't reliable. The reason for this is because they are rubbish.2012-12-11 18:43:00

Gee, thanks for the help. /sarcasm

Why do you say that? This is still a problem sure, but level links had worked out for me (and my online party) in the past. Just not this one. /nonsarcasm

That was a bit rude...

Julesy is completely right, they don't work because of rubbish coding (and as such the levels thermo makes little difference in reality), the only time they ever worked properly was in the beta and even then they were still buggy. The fact of the matter is that nobody's level links work online, and since Mm is no longer supporting or updating the base code the problem is unlikely to go away this late in lbp2's life cycle.

The best thing to do would just put a scoreboard in the level like the good ol' days of lbp1 and have people manually select another level from the pod.

It sounds like all of you have had this problem, but I didn't seem to find anything on the issue when I googled for it.
And I'm sorry for rubbing off as rude to you, which I did not intend. I've spent a good bulk of my free time on this project and am just looking for a solution to this strange problem.

Nah, you're not being rude. Level links just have a few problems with stability, yours included. I don't know much about the branching issue you have, but I'm guessing it comes down keeping your fingers crossed that you have a stable enough net connection between the players. Not much else you can do I guess.2012-12-12 00:12:00
