The Clock Repairer

Archive: 32 posts

Hi everyone! This is my first level on Vita! To be honest, the level is born by chance. And for a good 80% is improvised! I just had fun experimenting with some of the new capabilities of LBPV!
A simple short platformer inside a fancy cuckoo clock!

Criticism and comments are welcome! Enjoy! :star:

This is a well crafted, innovative level!! Trust me, I'm pretty sure I discovered & hearted your level a couple of weeks ago... It's refreshing to see a select few creators, like yourself, put this much detail into a Vita level nowadays!! Keep up the good work, and I might not regret trading in LBP2... lol just kidding!2012-12-11 17:38:00

What a beautiful level!
Everything about it was what i look for in a LBP level, the custom music fit perfectly, the visuals were totally on point, and all the different gameplay elements were fun and inventive, and most importantly they fit in with the theme of the level.

I gave a yay and a heart, and am looking forward to seeing more from you

Ciao!

Figo Level. lol

Hi, its a great Level. It has wonderful optics, good design, fun and interesting gameplay elements.

The Problem is... i couldnt finish it. I had 3 attempts.

In the first attempt i destroyed something by accident and wasnt able to finish the level anymore, right after those 3 golden cogs.

In the second attempt it was right at those 3 golden cogs, i put them in and nothing happened.

In the third attempt, i got to the mirror part and it sprung but nothing happened than ^^ (i got so pro at this level than, that i just jumped over those spikes at the beginning with 1 big jump lol)

Man, this seriously had the potential for a teampick... but u would have to work quite a few things out imo... allthough its allready very good, it has to be perfectly executed...

I think it got way to less plays... waaaaaay to less ^^ for this quality!

Even if u dont fix those things out, u have the skills to craft a level that gets teampicked.

I will heart u as a creator, because:

Ti amo con tutto il cuore. ^^ haha

Thank you and do not worry, take all the time in the world!

I take this opportunity to discuss problems concerning the level. I'll do a summary of what I said to Rough-Tea via PM:

It seems that the problems are different, and they change from player to player. The problem that someone has, does not appear to someone else. I double checked the logic several times, tested and retested the level, what was wrong was fixed. But I begin to think that these problems, different from player to player, are due to a bug when loading level.
The problem that is driving me crazy is the glass at the end. For me it works 100%, but there is someone who has problems, preventing to complete the game.

At this point, if the community agrees or is interested, I would like to publish a level in which I share and provide the above glass and its logic in order to have your opinions.

Just played it again, on- and offline.

It worked playing offline ^^ could actually finish it, didnt know the mirror part was the end, hehe.

It didnt work online tho...

Besides the 3 gear problem i encountered once, but since i allready played it like 5 times now? It never occured again.

I had a few problems with this part:

http://imageshack.us/a/img832/8062/20121214210303.jpg

Those things u have to put it can break... so its gameover than... just make them undestroyable.
And i had this wierd problem i couldnt open that shelfdoor.... it got stuck. As u can see on the Screen, it didnt move anymore.

Anyways, u might be right, that some of these problems only encounter in the online mode.... i have absolutely no idea why that is... probably the mirror part doesnt work online but it works offline.... wierd.

Im feeling sorry for u lol, that u got this ugly bugs.

If u get it fixed u probably should rerelease the level, i really think it deserves much more plays... it might be not worth a teampick but atleast it deserves more attention..... but u are on the right way.

I tried to fix the problems. The issue of the shelfdoor is another mystery, but the logic is very very simple! Who knows ... but I tried to change it. What an effort! 2012-12-14 22:00:00

I just finished your level.

at first i commend the work of design and mechanics.

it is a contemplative level, where the puzzles are not really complicated.

The only problem is the lack of clarity about the direction to take related to lack of information, it also relates some touch passages.
.
Otherwise excelente achieving great job, I recommend it!

For the record, Ive encountered the 3 gears not moving on the hinges too... I just chalked it up to the physics in relation to the loading/saving issues. Plus Ive noticed touch isnt as responsive at certain short intervals... unless thats just people not changing their material properties to frictionless when theyre adjacent to physical walls and need to be touched and moved... Ah well, still got yourself a fine level imho!2012-12-15 14:21:00

You're the second person confused on the path to follow. Please tell me where you think I should put directions! Then I will add some of touch signs that miss. Thank you!2012-12-15 14:29:00

of memory

the, poorly marked crossings

are when one must take a path vertical jumper buffers, the decoration is gold it seems.

(why not a small arrow indicative; =)

the second is when you open a horizontal passage after having handed the workings and activated interuptor yellow.

tactilely poorly marked crossings
are, when you need to clean the **** on the wheel and then activated the following tactilely interuptor .

I've had this struggle with signage & direction decisions in a platformer since I first started to create levels in LBP1. I don't think it needs much direction, mainly because I personally spend time exploring peoples levels, finding secret areas, and generally trying to break the level LOL. I usually enjoy trying to find my way, and I like puzzle platformers, but the general casual player may not.

...I just remembered what I was about to suggest. How about modifying your touch tweakers to include 'a glow', or a basic outline (minus the colored plastic material) that surrounds the touchable objects. the glass at the end could have a dephysicalized dotted line around the glass with a faint front touch icon in the far corner. Dunno, but good luck and look forward to your future projects!

I sometimes were confused too on what to do, but i didnt say anything, cause most of the time gamers are intelligent people and can figure out what to do themselves. (thats my opinion, most of the modern games, hold your hands pretty much till the end, back in the days u pressed start and u got thrown into the game right away)

But in Community created Games/Levels this probably can lead to problems... but i think your level is fine as it is... i played some other levels were i had no idea on what to do, since the creators lack the ability to empathize with the people who will play their level.... for them its totally clear, but others will get totally confused... but i mean... we are talking about a game/community that mostly gets played by younger people, who lack this abilities in general... because they are so young.

Most of the Team Picks or finer Levels gets made by a bit older gentleman, i assume ^^

I think thats the hardest part really, to make good gameplay, having the ability to empathize with the Players... i still need to learn that myself...

Edit:
It must be annoying to fix those problems u dont have a solution too, since it costs energy, on a level u thought u finished allready. U could just start a new level and probably find the solution to the problem with time itself.

Rough-Tea

your opinion is very bright and just sounds

The time spent to create and corrected, tends to distort the overall vision we can have of our level.

multiplied beta tester seems to be the best solution, but not always easy to implement.

..multiplied beta tester seems to be the best solution, but not always easy to implement.

In this forum u got a good chance to find people willing to help u... but maybe not for any level... just for bigger projects where u aim for a team pick... im sure up to help testing.

It's true, actually when one is the creator do not realize if the path is clear or not. I thought it was rather simple and straightforward! As soon as I try to improve it. Thank you all!2012-12-17 12:43:00

i had a problem with the glass at the end and the screws. but honestly i think my problem was that the instructions only appeared for a second so i wasnt sure if i was doing it right. perhaps better prompting would help. also, something saying to touch that very first cog, too.

but yeah, apart from bugs amazing level! im well impressed good job!

Actually some choices to not show indicators is intentional, like the very first cog! Sometimes it's the player having to commit!
The glass at the end....what a nightmare! As I mentioned earlier, I begin to think that the problems in the levels of LBPV are random, probably due to errors during the loading. I checked dozens of times the logic, but it works, for me and other people. For others do not ...
Maybe try to download the level and replay it!

It depends what you mean with "Bugs"...I tried to correct any errors, omissions or other. I added some information to clarify the path. But still the final part of the glass gives problems to someone...

The advice is: Try to download the level.
