I've changed the controls to make a walking noise when you move. But of course when I just if I press forward or backward it still makes the noise. Does anyone know of a way around this?

If the walking action is coming from a left or right stick, try using a direction splitter (piece of logic). The positive output from the splitter should go to the walk noise. The negative output from the splitter could go to some other effect, assuming your player will be able to go backwards too. Even if the negative output is not used, there should only be walking noise in the forward direction with this method.

Noted. But I'm wondering if anyone has discovered a way to make the noise stop upon jumping, so that pushing forward while in the air makes no noise.

Uh, maybe a sort of "touching ground" sensor? so maybe have an impact sensor on your kart, or if it isn't a kart, specifically on the bottom, so that it'd only detect touching the floor and not walls or other players.
