Star Wars: Massive Action Game w/ images

Archive: 12 posts

Jump into the shoes of Luke Skywalker and fight the empire in a massive space battle complete with Star Destroyers. Fight literally hundreds of TIE fighters along hundreds of rebel allies in X-Wings.

Advanced AI fights eachother or you. Star Destroyers blast anything and everything out of the sky. So far there are 4 on the map and I plan to have 5 or 6.

Pictures are still early, the game will look better. The screenshots do not give the chaos justice.

Well this looks absolutely wonderful! Will it be purely space dogfights? 2012-12-10 14:16:00

Thank you. This level will take place in space only as the battle takes up 90% of the map.

I'm still debating on how to set up the gameplay however.

Do I make it a Battlefield style game? Meaning the rebels or empire can win by being the first to destroy 1,000 enemy craft? You can really make a difference as I shot down 35 TIE fighters in a couple of minutes

Or do I make it more mission based and have priority targets around the map while the war goes on. I may have a little bit of both gameplay types in this one.

Thank you everyone for the interest shown. It really gives me the extra push to finish it right.

At the moment I've put this level on the backburner. Its a constant theme with me, I'll work furiously on something until I essentially burn out. It takes ALOT of playtesting and trial and error to get this right. To have the right amount of enemies spawn in the right direction in the right area to create even dog fights between AI around the map is a very draining ordeal. I'm constantly tweaking everything, their speed, rate of fire, vision, armor, everything. Its a constant battle trying to keep the framerate decent and the thermometer from exploding.

I almost got to the point where I was going to rush this to release, but decided the whole idea behind this was too valuable to be rushed. So instead I'm going to step back and take my time with this and make sure everything is done perfectly and I add everything I wanted to add no matter how time consuming. I would say this level is about 1 solid week of work away from being finished, whenever I decide to pick it back up.

As a "break" I've been working on another project that I will announce soon once its far enough along.

I've played a few good Star Wars shooters out there, but that was a while back, and shooters have really evolved since. The only advice i'd give you is to take the time to make it play as good as it looks. Good luck!2012-12-13 16:41:00
